[Dx-packages] [Bug 1239016] Re: latest hud totally busted

2013-10-14 Thread Pete Woods
The useful log files could appear in the hud log
(~/.cache/upstart/hud.log).

Also, is there a HUD crash file in /var/crash ?

I'm sorry I don't have any better information on this; I'm not sure
where to find any useful log files (nothing useful gets printed in the
terminal), but when I install the latest hud
(13.10.1+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1), it causes autopilot tests to crash.
They will run for a bit, but then exit without reporting any results.
Presumably hud is causing them to crash (worked fine before updating
hud). Happens at least to unity8-autopilot, webbrowser-app-autopilot,
ubuntu-keyboard-autopilot, and calendar-app-autopilot. Didnt bother to
test anything else after that (ran out of time).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1212987] Re: Unity not starting after boot

2013-10-14 Thread WoodyEckelzone
FYI I had this problem twice or three times, I had to make the settings with
CompizConfig Settings Manager like described.
sudo apt-get install cssm

That solved all in the end.
After that I have not experienced this problem again. (Maybe caused by a
powerfailuere back then?!)

  I tried:
  dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
  unity --reset-icons disown

  Unity did reset

Still can set icon size in settings - appearance - look.
Have to use Unity Tweak Tool for that to set icon size on 32.
Then started Chromium and Unity crashed again.

Restart and still can't set icon size or launcher to autohide.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1227920] Re: after suspend/resume, the Unity HUD is always open when I unlock the screen

2013-10-14 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I see it 100% of the time when suspending using the menu. I still it
with upower 0.9.22-1. Looking at the code, the debdiff in comment #18
seems very reasonable-- can someone upload this?

First of all, Ubuntu-bug doesn't work properly any more. In the first

I have the taskbar showing 7 programs. I have deleted some and added the
following: Emacs, Wine-NaturallySpeaking, and Wine-notepad.

  The icons add fine.

But I want to move wine-notepad up. I can do this, but when I re-boot
the icon is always back where it started.

I'm sorry I don't have any better information on this; I'm not sure
where to find any useful log files (nothing useful gets printed in the

(13.10.1+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1), it causes autopilot tests to crash.
They will run for a bit, but then exit without reporting any results.
Presumably hud is causing them to crash (worked fine before updating
hud). Happens at least to unity8-autopilot, webbrowser-app-autopilot,
ubuntu-keyboard-autopilot, and calendar-app-autopilot. Didnt bother to
test anything else after that (ran out of time).

using ubuntu touch image 82 i see the session init consume about 10MB per
minute as long as the screen is on with Mir.
running the same session with surfaceflinger only consumes 1MB per minute.

in both cases the system starts to swap heavily at some point, making
  the UI unresponsive.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196223/ has the top output of a Mir session
after 30min, the UI just got completely unresponsive when this
  snapshot was taken.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196332/ is the top output of a surfaceflinger
session where the screen was off for about 10min

apparently the leak only occurs while the screen is on, it seems to be
permanently there but in the case of surfaceflinger it hits less hard.

Bug description:

  access(home/.cache/indicator-appmenu/hud-usage-log.sqlite-wal, F_OK) = -1

  access(/usr/share/indicator-appmenu/hud/app-info/multiload.hud-app-info,
F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

which apparently do not exist (excerpt from strace log, home is
  users home directory).

For NFS mounted homes this causes a constant network traffic of ~300kB/s down
and ~50kB/s up in idle state.
On slower machines this causes a more than noticable CPU load (with and
without NFS mounted homes).

They will run for a bit, but then exit without reporting any results.
Presumably hud is causing them to crash (worked fine before updating
hud). Happens at least to unity8-autopilot, webbrowser-app-autopilot,
ubuntu-keyboard-autopilot, and calendar-app-autopilot. Didnt bother to
test anything else after that (ran out of time).

James, how was this valgrind trace produced? The stacktrace doesn't
show anything above the low-level calls in dbus, making it difficult to
pinpoint the actual source of the problem.

using ubuntu touch image 82 i see the session init consume about 10MB per
minute as long as the screen is on with Mir.
running the same session with surfaceflinger only consumes 1MB per minute.

in both cases the system starts to swap heavily at some point, making
  the UI unresponsive.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196223/ has the top output of a Mir session
after 30min, the UI just got completely unresponsive when this
  snapshot was taken.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196332/ is the top output of a surfaceflinger
session where the screen was off for about 10min

apparently the leak only occurs while the screen is on, it seems to be
permanently there but in the case of surfaceflinger it hits less hard.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1239016] Re: latest hud totally busted

2013-10-14 Thread Robert Bruce Park
Glad it's working for you guys. All I know is that unity8 AP had only 2
failures before I upgraded HUD, and then wouldn't run properly after I
upgraded hud. Tried it a few ways, updating certain packages and then
updating everything. No luck. Here are the only logs i could find.

They will run for a bit, but then exit without reporting any results.
Presumably hud is causing them to crash (worked fine before updating
hud). Happens at least to unity8-autopilot, webbrowser-app-autopilot,
ubuntu-keyboard-autopilot, and calendar-app-autopilot. Didnt bother to
test anything else after that (ran out of time).

I hope it, too... Still didn't try the beta, though. And it is still
frustrating to feel as a bug was fixed just accidentally. It is still
unassigned here... The feeling of being ignored is still here.

I'm having difficulty reproducing this issue.

When indicator-datetime fails to appear, is the indicator-datetime-
process running on the system? Since there's no crash report, it seems
likely that it's either hanging or is somehow failing to launch.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1238043] Re: indicator-datetime-service is opening /etc/localtime every 5 seconds even on a totally idle system

Title:
  indicator-datetime-service is opening /etc/localtime every 5 seconds
even on a totally idle system

Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
In an attempt to reduce unnecessary frequent periodic file access to
save power, I noticed that indicator-datetime-service is opening and
closing /etc/localtime every 5 seconds on my desktop and not
apparently reading this file. On the ubuntu phone it is doing the
  same thing with /etc/writable/localtime.

This seems a little excessive, especially because the TZ data doesn't
change quite that frequently. It would be useful if this excessive
polling on the file could be reduced if possible.
