[Dx-packages] [Bug 846407] Re: xrdp is not able to transmitt unity desktop correct - different clients

2014-02-04 Thread Gawarmel
Same Problem as stated by Wangzi in #34

the session=gnome-fallback workaroud does not work anymore with 13.10 +
and does not seem to come back in 14.04.

This xfce4 solution works, however slow and crappy, and not in a unity
desktop:

sudo apt-get install xfce4 xrdp
echo xfce4-session ~/.xsession
sudo service xrdp restart

My questions:
What is the preferred Ubuntu (Unity) (cross-platform) remote desktop
connection? This was always one of the strongest features of UNIX-like operated
machines...
I'm still lost in Ubuntu's complexity. Can anyone out there give a summary how
to get into the particular code of this? What happened to ubuntu-2d?

Quite embarrassing, isn't it? This bug is discussed since 2011... I just
tried upgrading because 12.04 told me at some point must-have 14.04. I
will roll back to 12.04 and stay with it until I'm convinced that an
upgrade pays off. Why do we sacrifice a *super, perfectly working*
feature like the *seamless* Windows 8/7/XP/android xrdp interface? I
thought 14.04 is supposed to be an *up*grade?

  [Original Report]

Selecting shutdown from the greeter does nothing when multiple
  accounts are open.

This is because the lightdm user (which the greeter runs as) does not
have permission to shutdown while sessions are open. Inside a normal
session this would just return you to the login screen.

The solution is either for the indicator to say not allowed or to
run a PolicyKit frontend in the greeter than can get the required
  permissions to perform the shutdown.s

  1. Open the system menu.

What you see: Log Out..., Suspend, and Shut Down... items.

What you should see: A Restart... item between Suspend and Shut Down
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemMenu

This is a regression of bug 815077. In 2011 we thought it might be a
good idea to demote Restart to an extra button in the Shut Down
dialog, but we were wrong. So we moved it back to a top-level item in
  the system menu.

This bug is still active since Oneiric, it should be fixed by now...
There were videos about this feature during the developement of Precise.
The gnome-screensaver is uglier than the current unity-greeter, why can't we

[Dx-packages] [Bug 786525] Re: Sound menu volume slider does not take amplification into account

2014-02-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Specification updated.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound?action=diffrev2=99rev1=98

** Summary changed:

- unity volume indicator do not take into account amplification
+ Sound menu volume slider does not take amplification into account

** Changed in: indicator-sound
   Status: In Progress = Triaged

** Changed in: indicator-sound
Assignee: Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) = (unassigned)

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: unity
-
- Not sure if it's unity, or pulseaudio, or whatever.
-
If your sound card has a volume with an amplification part, the
indicator do not consider it. For example, if you set the volume with
the applet to max, no amplification is selected.

The worst part if that if you set using sound preference some
amplification, the applet indicates 100%, but as soon as you touch the
indicator, you lose your set amplification, so even you try to rise the
  volume, it will be reduced.
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#PC: 'Output volume:' ... should be
+ followed by checkboxes for 'Mute' and 'Allow louder than 100%' (with a
+ translation note advising to keep the label brief).
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Output_volume_item: Whenever 'Allow
+ louder than 100%' is checked, the slider should include a red area for
+ greater-than-maximum volume.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

It's uber useful! When i click on it, i want to focus that app not make

  mlaverdiere's futher addition:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/733349/comments/2

My suggestion would be to modify the interaction-design/process like
  this (*=my modification proposal/2 cents!):

  1) start it, if it hasn't been started yet;
  *2) restore it, if it is minimized;
  *3) focus the app, if it's started, not minimized and has not the focus yet;
  4) spread windows (of app), if app is focused and has multiple windows open;
*5) minimize it if it is in spread-mode (see 4).

Note that this bug has over 300 comments and several working but
rejected patches. This means that this feature probably will never
land in official Unity! So if you want it, you have to use a patched
  version of Unity.

There is a working patch for 13.04 ( from comment #322,
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-

[Dx-packages] [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2014-02-04 Thread Benjamin Geese
I know this is rather annoying as everybody seems to see the need to
comment on this while this issue has been decided about two years ago.

Saying that, i join this mess of noisy comments because i feel on view is
rather underrepresented in this thread:
The one of a happy user!

I am perfectly happy with the current behaviour have never missed the
minimized feature. I fact it might disturb my workflow.

And even more so: I have never be so happy with a stable and functional
desktop environment on linux as i am with unity. I think there have been
some very good design decision made and, this time, we should just trust
those people who decided this is a opinion or won't fix and leave it at
this.

Thomas, or anyone else, did you try this with indicator-bluetooth

Be careful that System Settings is not a 100% reliable way of telling

version of JAyatana (for Ubuntu 12.04-13.04) from my PPA and add it to your own
(you can make some changes if you want).
That way, your PPA will make JAyatana available for Ubuntu 12.04-13.10.

Title:
Java Swing applications do not work with appmenu

Status in Application menu module for GTK+:
  Confirmed
Status in DBus Menu:
  Confirmed
Status in “libdbusmenu” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Bug #618587 tracks integration of appmenu with SWT, but there appears
to be nothing filed about integration with javax.swing.JMenuBar
(mentioned at the bottom of bug #659931).

Expected (at least ideal) behavior: when running Unity and giving
focus to a JFrame with a JMenuBar, the menu bar is not displayed
inside the frame, but corresponding menus are displayed in the global
  Unity menu.

Actual behavior on 11.10: the menu bar is displayed inside the frame,
  and appmenu is empty.

For comparison, the Mac OS X JRE automatically displays Swing menus in
the native location. libjava-gnome-java is perhaps the place to put in
such a fix; assuming the JRE itself is not modified, an application
wishing to take advantage of the fix would probably need to try to
load /usr/share/java/gtk.jar and (if present) call a simple register
  method.

This happens to me as well. It doesn't seem like it is a duplicate of
bug #1209386, since it opens to different days (not just previous one)
and doesn't correct itself when clicked again. It seems to highlight
whatever date I click on.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1163129] Re: XResources didn't handle #define well

2014-02-04 Thread Olivier Mengué
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1244578 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244578

I think that cpp has been disabled for performance reasons.

@iGEL, as you are manually editing your .Xresources only once in a while
it would be more efficient for session initialization to process your X
ressources definitions through cpp just once after your editing.

So the workaround is:
( echo ! Do not edit .Xresources but .Xresources.def ; echo ! Rebuild
with cpp -P .Xresources.def .Xresources ; cat .Xresources ) .Xresources.def
Every time you want to change your X resources, edit .Xresources.def and then:
   cpp -P .Xresources.def .Xresources

To reproduce, you can add just the following lines to your ~/.Xresources:

  #define S_base0 #839496
  URxvt*foreground: S_base0

Restart Unity. Start a urxvt and watch the standard error of the
terminal you used to start urxvt. Note the horrible pink.

Run xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources and then start another urxvt. Note no
  errors and no horrible pink.

Somehow, the Unity-started mechanism for reading the Xresources didn't
properly handle the #define statements. Perhaps Unity accidentally
used the -nocpp option to xrdb?

I just wrote a wrapper for your $EDITOR to edit your Xresources and process
