[Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems
Fixed with seventeen updates February 6: 2. Boosstrap fails 5. Windows lose content (apparently due to memory leak) -- passed 16 hour stress test 6. Screen flashing while updating LibreOffice display (limited testing) 8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scrollbar reverted to originally configured old-school scrollbar. 10. Resized windows retain size on restart (yay!) Still outsanding: 1. Firefox and Thunderbird can't access established wireless connection. 4. Right click doesn't work with Firefox 7. Gesture-scrolling only works with some Firefox windows/tabs (didn't work at all before) 9. firefox does not automagically restore windows on restart. Can't determine: 3. Firefox loses tab history -- can't tell because right click doesn't work (4 above) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272448 Title: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are current. 1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December and has continued to date (January 24, 2014). 2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem appeared after January 1, 2014. 3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable unless I reboot. Long-standing issue. 4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and- paste. 5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames become transparent and Firefox no longer works. 6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB main memory!). Very alarming. 7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using "gestures" shortly after January 1, 2014. 8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them. 9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people. Surely you can do better than that. This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4 filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date. What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a "stable" release? This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999 (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint 14 on other "boxes", an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620. None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like these do). Unity sucks stumpwater. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1240251] Re: Does not open with "today", can't jump there
My calendar now says Friday, 7 February 2014, but the orange highlight is on February 27th. This is so annoying that I cannot find words to describe it. And if I remember correctly, this has been broken for years now. Is it really impossible to update the view to show current date when the user opens the calendar? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240251 Title: Does not open with "today", can't jump there Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When clicking on the date/time, the dropdown window contains the year/month/day I visited there previously. Since altering the month or year doesn't change the day, often today's day number is highlighted. This, along with today's date being shown at the top, very easily leads to the misbelief that the current month's calendar is being shown, which is not necessarily the case. It's terribly misleading. (In the mean time, I understand that keeping the year/month during closure and reopening of the dropdown might be considered a feature useful for many people.) Furthermore, there's no option to jump to today, I have to manually walk to the current year and month. My suggestion is a "Today" button, with clearly distinguisable disabled state if it's already today's month being shown. We've made a lot of changes appropriate for Ubuntu and Unity (32 patches) which makes it hard to maintain and creates a conflict for Ubuntu GNOME to use newer upstream versions. Unity 7 will be replaced by Unity 8 in the future which is unlikely to need a settings daemon (this functionality will be built into the shell). So we can continue to remain on the current version of GNOME settings daemon but allow Ubuntu GNOME to continue to update we will create a new project lp:unity-settings-daemon which is a copy of GNOME settings daemon 3.8.6.1 but with appropriate renaming so both can be installed. A number of packages that refer to gnome-settings-daemon need to be updated to refer to unity-settings-daemon (see bug tasks). About the message "Greeter sets language fr_FR" in/var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log , the next line is "Writing /home/scheuer/.dmrc" and indeed ~/.dmrc contains both language and session definitions. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1276072] Re: Language selection always falls back to English
Sniff! Sorry to tell you that: it does not work! The point is that the file /var/lib/AccountsService/users/scheuer is rewritten (without the language settings) at each connection. Too bad! And I don't understand either why the language setting does not fall back to the system language, defined in /etc/default/locale, but to the default one (English). It may be an installation problem: if I remember well, I installed a Xubuntu 12.04, and upgraded to 12.10, 13.04 then 13.10 (but it worked quite well under 13.04 - I did not have this problem, at least). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to accountsservice in Ubuntu. Opening the dash by clicking the Dash Home button takes about twenty seconds and you can watch the little spinner in the corner step through its animation in discreet chunks. Opening a new window of any application it's also possible to watch the window opening animation in stages. Operations within an application, scrolling, etc. aren't noticeably slower than on Precise, so I'm inclined to call this a unity bug but it's entirely possible it's not. Revisiting this : I don't see this behaviour with Inkscape or with GIMP. I still see this with Eclipse 4.3 The behaviour almost looks like the menu is being drawn behind the application window, but that could just be a product of the code flow mentioned above. See attached image : the top of the menu visible in the menu bar area has been drawn, along with some of the menu spilling into the application window, but this seems to have stopped short of rendering the whole menu. This is the product of clicking the menu item. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot of menu rendering with broken menu" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-gtk-module/+bug/1208019/+attachment/3972395/+files/eclipse-broken-menu.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity-gtk-module in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208019 Title: Eclipse menus doesn't show up in Saucy Status in Unity GTK+ module: Confirmed Status in “unity-gtk-module” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: HOW TO REPRODUCE 1. At the minute my theory is there's some sort of cycle in the GMenu structure that one of the apps is exporting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276225 Title: Heavy CPU usage when sublimetext is opened Status in Unity HUD: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: It looks to be triggered by sublimetext: http://www.sublimetext.com/2 The suspended stack: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6873661/ This is the HUD log file: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6873710/ This is the list of apps running: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6873719/ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hud/+bug/1276225/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages Post to : dx-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Dx-packages] [Bug 1277430] [NEW] Indefinite-duration notification has both "Cancel" and "OK" unnecessarily
Public bug reported: notify-osd 0.9.35+13.10.20130917.1-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 13.10 1. At a terminal, notify-send -t 0 "Hello" "Goodbye" When a notification has actions, Notify OSD's fallback alert has a "Cancel" button to let you dismiss the notification without triggering any of the actions. When a notification has no actions but has indefinite duration, Notify OSD's fallback alert still has a "Cancel" button alongside its "OK" button. This doesn't seem to be necessary; "Cancel" and "OK" do the same thing. Just an "OK" button would be enough. ** Affects: notify-osd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: notify-osd 0.9.35+13.10.20130917.1-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 13.10 + + 1. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1276850] Re: Notify box graphical corruption on login screen
Hi Nikki. It guess it's difficult to take a screenshot of the login screen unless it's in a VM. But could you perhaps take a photo of the problem and attach it to this bug report? That would help us tell whether it's a problem with Notify OSD, a graphics driver, or something else.
