[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283671] [NEW] 14.04 daily build (2014-02-21): unity desktop crashes on every application start
Public bug reported: I installed the 14.04 daily build from a CD image yesterday to help testing. Unfortunately, I cannot test anything because right upon booting, when the desktop appears, every app I start causes about a minute of freezing (even the mouse pointer freezes) and then a restart (or complete crash) of the unity top menubar and sidebar. The only thing in the desktop I customized was the Unity sidebar button size (in the settings app - to 16 pixels first, then to 24 pixels). But even the settings app caused this crash before I could use it to change the settings. I am writing this in a 640x480 Firefox window without window manager from within the crashed Unity desktop. Is this a known bug? I sure hope so. ;) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: unity 7.1.2+14.04.20140220-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-11.31-generic 3.13.3 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-11-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Feb 23 09:58:45 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-02-22 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Alpha i386 (20140222) SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1283702] [NEW] Dash appears instead of Spread when Super+W is tapped faster than dash_tap_duration
Public bug reported: The bug: When Super+W is pressed quickly, the Dash appears instead of the Spread. The fact that W has also been pressed is ignored. “Quickly” means the duration less then the dash_tap_duration parameter which is found in Launcher tab of the CompizConfig Settings Manager as the “Dash tap duration”. Steps to reproduce: – open CompizConfig Settings Manager – in Launcher tab, change the parameter “Dash tap duration” to some high value, say 1000 milliseconds (more is prohibited) – press Super+W within the duration not more than one second – WHAT IS EXPECTED: Spread mode should appear – WHAT HAPPENS INSTEAD: Dash appears Obviously, this bug can also be reproduced with the default value of dash_tap_duration (250ms) but with the higher value it's more evident and easier to reproduce. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1283236] Re: Alarm is shown with an incorrect time and does not trigger
It seems some layer is interpreting the alarm time being requested as UTC instead of the local timezone, thereby scheduling it 5 hrs too far ahead. It looks like clock and the alarm api expect localtime although this is not explicit in the API doc. We should ensure that timezone changes are reacted to properly for saved alarms. Perhaps all alarms should be saved in UTC and converted as appropriate. ** Changed in: ubuntu-clock-app Assignee: (unassigned) = Nekhelesh Ramananthan (nik90) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. ** Changed in: unity Status: In Progress = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098419 Title: Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global menu enabled Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in Compiz: Won't Fix Status in Unity: Fix Committed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Currently, it is possible to right click on the name bar of a window to get the drop-down menu allowing the following actions: - Minimise - Maximise - Move - Resize - Always on top - Always on visible workspace - Only on this workspace - Move to workspace x - Move to workspace y - Move to another workspace ... - Close However, when a window is maximised and the top bar is merged with the panel, allowing the global menu, there is no way to access this menu, except going back to windowed mode, thus adding an extra step to execute an action like moving the window to another workspace. This is not expected as the panel is already dragable and double- clickable. WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: The top panel's empty space should be right-clickable in order to be able to access those options as easily as in windowed mode. Another option, not as good as the first one, would be to add another drop-down menu in the global menu, that would appear only when the window is maximised. The advantage would be the ability to use those actions with the HUD; however, adding a Window drop-down menu would interfere with apps that already have one, like LibreOffice Writer, and would probably end up being more confusing. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1283695] Re: LIM breaks double-tap title to maximise
As per design decision, double-click should be disabled on menus by default. However, you can actually turn this, setting a timeout on com.canonical.Unity.IntegratedMenus double-click-wait setting. By setting that value to something like 100ms (this or 150 worked well for me), you delay the menu activation for the defined ms, so that you can be able to click again to get the window maximized. Based on how much fast you double click you can keep this value lower and make menus faster to show (when not double clicking). Unfortunately there's no way other than delaying the menu activation to achieve this, as we can't predict what the user wants to do :) ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Also affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Won't Fix ** Changed in: unity Assignee: (unassigned) = Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) ** Tags added: lim -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 982434] Re: Opening the dash causes memory usage to climb dramatically, and never comes back down
Same story in Ubuntu 14.04 (Unity 7.1.2, Compiz 0.9.11, Intel card, RAM 2G) Opening the Dash will increase the memory usage of Compiz from 30 MiB to 90~100 MiB. The system and the applications are working fine. I didn't experienced any particular problem. just noticed compiz increasing the ram usage in the System monitor. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. I am NOT reporting a memory leak - at least, I don't think so. I am simply reporting this: When I start a desktop session, Compiz uses 85M of memory. It stays there as long as I *do not open the Dash*. Once I open the Dash - simply pushing the Ubuntu button, and then closing immediately - the memory usage climbs to ~120-150. If I go through every page in the Dash and open every sub-page and see every icon available, the memory usage clibms to ~185M. Re-visiting the Dash, no matter how often, doesn't cause a further increase, but I'm not certain the Dash should use ~100M of RAM all by itself. I'm not sure how much it *should* use, but it just seems a bit excessive. If you want to try it you only have to edit the file /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/unity.css to match your preferences...
