[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283236] Re: Alarms are triggered in UTC tz despite saving in local tz

2014-04-07 Thread Zsombor Egri
Yes, Charles, I'm giving the date to qtorganizer-eds transformed into
UTC (i.e. 3pm Local time === 3pm UTC). Now, all tasks.ics entries are in
UTC. But I guess we agreed that it is OK to have that. If not, eds
plugin must do sthing with the time.

Bug description:
Setting an alarm in the local timezone is not respected by the system
since the alarms is triggered in the equivalent UTC timezone.

  Mako build 200, 205

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Ensure that phone timezone is something other than UTC. For instance
eastern tz (UTC-5)
  2. Set an alarm for 3:00 PM in the ubuntu clock app.
  3. Indicator shows a pending alarm for 3:00 PM
  4. Check a minute or so later, indicator shows an alarm pending for 8:00 PM

  What happens:
The alarm does not go off at 3:00 PM. Instead it triggers at 8:00 PM

  What should happen:
The alarm is triggered at 3:00 PM

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303317] [NEW] dots not lined up on lock screen

2014-04-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I understand a similar bug was fixed a week or two ago involving the
login screen, whereby the dots pattern did not line up properly with
the new default wallpaper.

Now when locking the screen I have noticed that the dots pattern is in
the wrong place, if the right place is where they are on the login
screen. They also go through the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS logo in the bottom
left rather than around it, and the central dot on the screen is
slightly below the central point of the default wallpaper, as opposed to
rows above and below the centre as in the login screen.

I am running through an NVIDEA GTX 650 with screen resolution 1920x1080.
This doesn't seem to be limited to me though, as you can see the same
thing in the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpagev=ZAREcpd6_eE#t=100

Finally, I'm reporting this against lightdm as it seems the most
appropriate package; please advise if it is not!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 971462] Re: When HUD is enabled, AltGr/Compose still causes focus stealing from the widget

2014-04-07 Thread Tomas Lycken
This popped up again today on my system (Ubuntu 13.10), in the middle of
a session, without having just installed any updates or anything. I was
able to (temporarily) fix it by running compiz --replace (i.e. I didn't
have to change any settings anywhere, just restart the window manager).

However, I forgot to add at the end of the command, and followed up
with ^C to get rid of all the console output. Naturally, after that I
was screwed... :P

But compiz --replace in the terminal should be a functioning
workaround until a fix is provided. (And a real fix is really needed -
this bug makes lots of features of lots of systems, and some entire
systems, practically unusable...!)

  2. Make sure you are using a keyboard layout that uses a Compose key (e.g.

  3. Open http://people.canonical.com/~roman.yepishev/blur.html in firefox or
chromium
  4. Put the cursor in the field and press AltGr/Compose key
  5. Observe that Blurred is appended on the page

  Expected results:
Compose sends nothing (as it happens when HUD is disabled)

  Actual results:
Widget loses focus for a fraction of the second.

  Impact:
This is most noticeable in the web pages that make use of 'blur' event
handler, such as PicasaWeb, where the image title is updated once the focus
leaves the field, thus making it impossible to properly change the title of the
picture.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303698] [NEW] curiosity killed the trusty tahr

2014-04-07 Thread Alexander List
Public bug reported:

I went to the vet with cat #2, while cat #1 was at home. Being a
responsible user, I locked my screen with Ctrl-Alt-L before leaving.

When I returned from the vet, cat #1 was sitting on the keyboard of my
Thinkpad x201, and the keyboard buffer of the screensaver's password
entry field was full.

Even after removing the cat, the password entry field was unresponsive.
It was impossible to delete the garbage characters entered by cat #1,
even trying to get the focus to that dialog using the mouse was
unsuccessful. My only option was to go to a text console using Ctrl-
Alt-F1 and reboot (I know, I could have killed the screensaver, but for
ordinary users this is probably too complex.)

I consider that a bug in unity or the screensaver. Curious cats should
not kill the trusty tahr or its screensaver.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1225063] Re: cannot remove/uninstall online/offline indicator

2014-04-07 Thread Lars Uebernickel
There are actually two bugs in the original screenshot: the chat section
should not be shown when no applications support that and the whole
messaging menu should not be shown when it doesn't contain any
applications.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1104236] Re: [regression] Unity show desktop fade out makes them invisible in spread.

2014-04-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package compiz -

---
compiz (1:0.9.11+14.04.20140404-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Chris Townsend ]
  * Fix issue where Compiz passively grabs all mouse buttons which
severely affects scrolling in Gtk apps. Now only unconditionally
grab buttons 1-3 for all windows except the desktop window and only
grab other buttons when there is a modifier attached to it. (LP:
#1171342)
  * Only fade in and fade out a window when it's hidden if it's not in
Show Desktop mode. This allows for a good fade out effect in Unity
when exiting Spread while in Show Desktop mode. (LP: #1104236)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303310] [NEW] Screensaver isn't triggered right after the first boot

2014-04-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi all, as previously posted on Ubuntu-Bugsquad ML:

I noticed that on a fresh boot the screensaver will not be triggered,
may be because no user is already logged so there's no such policy
enabled.[0]

Now, the downside of this behaviour is that computers turned on and
awaiting for users to be logged in will stay indefinitely with their
monitors/screens on, wasting energy and degrading the hardware.

Nowadays it's a common practice in public institutions and companies to
shut down every device that's not running any critical service mostly
for two big reasons: a. security measures and b. to cut energy and
hardware waste to save money.

The problem is that on next morning when staff turns on the systems
again the machines will keep their screens on all the time until
coworkers or general public - like on a public library - arrives.

I could think of several workarounds like adding a cron job or even
something simpler, an 'at' command to every /etc/rc.local to instruct to
`xset -display :0 dpms force off' at a given time to ensure the monitors
will be properly off after system boot until users arrive, but I would
prefer to stay away from any non-necessary hack if there's an official,
supported way to do this.

Thank you very much!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303796] [NEW] Display scaling is not applied runtime

2014-04-07 Thread Michał Sawicz

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303712] Re: [FFe] Remove gnome screensaver with unity installation

2014-04-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the work, some thoughts on the changes:

First, having Unity doing the handling rather than relying on g-s makes
sense, good work in that direction ;-)

Some issues/things to consider though

- it's late in the cycle, gnome-screensaver interfaces with other
components for e.g idle count. We need to make sure we don't regress
anything if we change that

- it's possible to install several desktops on the same machine, we
can't really make Unity to uninstall gnome-screensaver when it's still
used in e.g gnome-panel sessions

- Luke did that change https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
screensaver/3.6.1-0ubuntu11

it seems like he didn't open a bug/give specifics on the issues with the
screenreader (Marco said it should be working). Luke could you open a
bug about the issues you had and provide details?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303317] Re: dots not lined up on lock screen

2014-04-07 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
the lining up issue was with the wallpaper itself, rather than the grid
pattern in the unity-greeter.

The issue here is that the grid pattern is overlayed/calculated
differently from the unity-greeter and discrepancies are visible between
the two. (Mostly the starting offset of the grid.

Screensaver isn't triggered right after the first boot

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Hi all, as previously posted on Ubuntu-Bugsquad ML:

I noticed that on a fresh boot the screensaver will not be triggered,
may be because no user is already logged so there's no such policy
  enabled.[0]

Now, the downside of this behaviour is that computers turned on and
awaiting for users to be logged in will stay indefinitely with their
monitors/screens on, wasting energy and degrading the hardware.

Nowadays it's a common practice in public institutions and companies
to shut down every device that's not running any critical service
mostly for two big reasons: a. security measures and b. to cut energy
and hardware waste to save money.

The problem is that on next morning when staff turns on the systems
again the machines will keep their screens on all the time until
coworkers or general public - like on a public library - arrives.

I could think of several workarounds like adding a cron job or even
something simpler, an 'at' command to every /etc/rc.local to instruct
to `xset -display :0 dpms force off' at a given time to ensure the
monitors will be properly off after system boot until users arrive,
but I would prefer to stay away from any non-necessary hack if there's
an official, supported way to do this.

  Thank you very much!

have tried several nvidia drivers and the results are the same (Nvidia
  current 295.40, 295.20 and 295.33 32 bits) Videocard is Nvidia G105M

This seems to be a Unity rather than a Nvidia bug as cpu usage drops
back to around 6 -10% for same movies in Gnome shell.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1250262] Re: Calling EndSessionDialog.Open(Restart) opens the dialog with a focused 'Shutdown' button

2014-04-07 Thread Kevin
Trusty 14.04 is set to release April 26th and this is still an issue.
Perhaps the easiest solution would be to remove the restart option from
that menu and rename Shutdown... to Restart/Shutdown... or Power
Off While this is not a security issue or performance drain, it is
something every user will notice right away. I feel that an LTS release
should have these sorts of things very polished and clear.

Presently users who select Restart from the power-cog menu have to
then use the cursor keys to actually select Restart else a shutdown
  will occur.

It makes no sense to put Restart in the power-cog menu only to have
the popup that appears highlight Shutdown

Bug description:
My new Elantech touchpad supports Unitys multitouch gestures, but I've
noticed one inconsistency.
I like seeing running applications from all workspaces in my Alt-Tab view,
but by using the three-finger gestures on my touchpad I can only see
applications on the current workspace.

When I uncheck alt_tab_bias_viewport in CCSM, I expect Alt-Tab as well
as Unity Gestures to behave the same way.

  The problem:
The switcher only shows applications running on the current workspace when
using Unity Gestures,
even though I've unchecked Bias alt-tab to prefer windows on the current
viewport.

  The fix:
Show all windows if alt_tab_bias_viewport is unchecked.

If I correctly recall, this particularly affects GTK+-based desktops.
But I reckon we'll need to have someone confirm that it works in Kubuntu
(and/or LXDE-Qt by extension), as per the now-closed Quassel bug #1234,
reported by the same filer:

Caleb, also, this is not an issue in Kubuntu as they do not use any of
the indicator-* stuff that I am aware of.

I understand a similar bug was fixed a week or two ago involving the
login screen, whereby the dots pattern did not line up properly with

Now when locking the screen I have noticed that the dots pattern is in
the wrong place, if the right place is where they are on the login
screen. They also go through the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS logo in the bottom
left rather than around it, and the central dot on the screen is
slightly below the central point of the default wallpaper, as opposed
to rows above and below the centre as in the login screen.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1280337] Re: Dependency on webbrowser-app seems ill-advised

2014-04-07 Thread Robert Bruce Park
The dependency chain here looks like this:

unity - bamfdaemon - libunity-webapps0 - unity-webapps-service -
webapp-container - webbrowser-app.

My initial feeling was that bamfdaemon just shouldn't depend on
libunity-webapps0, because we dropped a bunch of webapps code from bamf
following the switch to the container, however upon looking at the code
there it seems bamf and libunity-webapps are tightly integrated, so that
seemed like a nontrivial task to split.

Then I started looking at the chain and it wasn't clear to me whether
unity-webapp-service should stop depending on webapp-container, or
whether webapp-container stop depending on webbrowser-app.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304073] [NEW] 14.04 Unity pips (white dots in bar) are now too small.

2014-04-07 Thread JaSauders
Public bug reported:

On all 14.04 installs I've tinkered with so far they've all exhibited
this behavior. The pips (white dots) next to the icons in the Unity bar
are too small. I never noticed this before, so I went back to a 13.10
install to compare. The pips on 14.04 are so small that they, quite
frankly, feel useless. They need to be of adequate size in an effort to
be easily seen by the user, regardless of the actual icon size.

Take note of the size of the white pips on the Unity launcher in the
following screenshots.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mc4k4yyjm5nbbzk/4t6SgqVN8H

Here's an alternative 'direct download' link to the images just in case:
http://skynetcore.org/shared/pips.tar.gz

In an effort to present an accurate comparison I included the following
screenshots
(note that 48 px on both 13.10 and 14.04 seem identical, it's just the smaller
sizes that down-scale too far)
13.10 - 32 px
14.04 - 32 px

13.10 - 48 px
14.04 - 48 px

I also included a 5th screenshot of 26 px in 14.04 in case it helps
further show what I'm referencing.

While scaling the size of the pips makes sense to a certain degree, the
current behavior scales them far too small. I feel as though they should
have (at minimal) a 13.10 oriented type of scaling so they are more
easily viewable, and therefore, more useful. If they could be adjusted
in size, that would be a monumental bonus as well, but I have a feeling
that might be a stretch for the given time frame. :)

Thank you for your time!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303731] Re: Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo-Dock is broken when using indicator-application-12.10.1+14.04.20140324 and newer

2014-04-07 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello Indicator Application devs,

On a Cairo-Dock session ($XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP == Unity ;
$DESKTOP_SESSION == cairo-dock), the Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo-
Dock is broken when using the version 12.10.1+14.04.20140324 (or newer)
of Indicator Application.

Do you have any idea why Cairo-Dock's plugin is broken now? It seems that
'nm-applet' and 'indicator-application-service' are correctly launched.
Is it possible that Indicator Application is now restricted to some sessions?
Or did you change some DBus signals?

(sorry, we are currently very busy... any help to fix this bug is
welcome ;-) )

Bug description:
Now with a fix for LP: #753938 being merged into raring, this presents
a new usability challenge to users.

  The issue:
When you open a trash window from the launcher and minimize it, it gets
minimized into the Nautilus icon.
However, a user would then expect to get the window back by clicking the icon
where the window minimized into in the first place,
in this case, the Nautilus icon in the launcher.
Instead, it opens a new Nautilus window.
The issue here is that trash windows and every other Nautilus window are only
seperated logically from each other, but not visually.

  The fix:
When minimizing the trash window, instead of minimizing into the Nautilus
icon, it should minimize the window into the trash icon in the launcher.
I'm purely talking about the minimize animation and triangle next to the
trash icon here.

Title:
14.04 Unity pips (white dots in bar) are now too small.

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On all 14.04 installs I've tinkered with so far they've all exhibited
this behavior. The pips (white dots) next to the icons in the Unity
bar are too small. I never noticed this before, so I went back to a
13.10 install to compare. The pips on 14.04 are so small that they,
quite frankly, feel useless. They need to be of adequate size in an
effort to be easily seen by the user, regardless of the actual icon
  size.

Take note of the size of the white pips on the Unity launcher in the
  following screenshots.

  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mc4k4yyjm5nbbzk/4t6SgqVN8H

Here's an alternative 'direct download' link to the images just in
  case: http://skynetcore.org/shared/pips.tar.gz

In an effort to present an accurate comparison I included the following
screenshots
(note that 48 px on both 13.10 and 14.04 seem identical, it's just the
smaller sizes that down-scale too far)
  13.10 - 32 px
  14.04 - 32 px

  13.10 - 48 px
  14.04 - 48 px

I also included a 5th screenshot of 26 px in 14.04 in case it helps
  further show what I'm referencing.

While scaling the size of the pips makes sense to a certain degree,
the current behavior scales them far too small. I feel as though they
should have (at minimal) a 13.10 oriented type of scaling so they are
more easily viewable, and therefore, more useful. If they could be
adjusted in size, that would be a monumental bonus as well, but I have
a feeling that might be a stretch for the given time frame. :)

  Thank you for your time!

Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 1303712] Re: [FFe] Remove gnome screensaver with unity installation

2014-04-07 Thread Luke Yelavich
Bug #1304111 is for what is needed for the unity lock screen.
accessibility wise. I initially looked at this, and decided post feature
freeze that introducing so much new code was too risky and could
introduce more bugs, hense patching gnome-screensaver to use the
original lock screen when the screen reader is in use.

  To reproduce:
  Open files
Right-click on any file or folder and select properties
  On permissions, open any combobox

The highlighted item has black text over orange background, but I'm pretty
sure should be white over orange.
Also, scroll arrows (when the box reaches the top or bottom of the screen)
are black over dark gray, barely visibles.

I'm pretty sure this is not by design, and also could be an usability
issue due to the lack of contrast.

Title:
Ambiance Combo box - black highlighted text and scroll arrows

Status in One Hundred Papercuts:
  New
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  To reproduce:
  Open files
Right-click on any file or folder and select properties
  On permissions, open any combobox

The highlighted item has black text over orange background, but I'm pretty
sure should be white over orange.
Also, scroll arrows (when the box reaches the top or bottom of the screen)
are black over dark gray, barely visibles.

I'm pretty sure this is not by design, and also could be an usability
issue due to the lack of contrast.

  Screenshot attached.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303712] Re: [FFe] Remove gnome screensaver with unity installation

2014-04-07 Thread Treviño
I think that could have been done by trying to fix unity first, by the
way in terms of screen readers the unity lockscreen seems to tell more
here than gs.

As per this workaround, it can be done also unity side: by falling back
to GS if a11y options are on, and this is what lp:~3v1n0/unity
/lockscreen-disable-with-osk does. So, we can still have both things,
but making unity to control what's best to do.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304186] [NEW] 14.04 Unity integration with messaging applications not fully working.

2014-04-07 Thread JaSauders
Public bug reported:

On the three 14.04 installs I've done, I've noticed this same situation
come up. As seen in the screenshot below, when you receive an instant
message you get a number on top of the messaging application in the
Unity bar. This isn't the case in 14.04.

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-
content/uploads/2011/04/screenshotae_thumb.png

With both Pidgin and Empathy (using Google Talk), I do not receive the
number on the icon to indicate how many new messages I have. With
Empathy in particular I did notice that brand new conversations do list
a 1 there, but once I engage in conversation and later background
Empathy, new messages do not put a number on the icon to indicate that I
have unread messages. In prior releases of Ubuntu, this seemed to always
work.

Thank you for your time!
