[Dx-packages] [Bug 1004769] Re: Unity alt+tab unclear, improvemet suggestions.
I absolutely agree with the problem report. My suggested solution was to roll the icons and keep the focus smack in the middle instead of moving focus from left to right - bug 1291790 . Currently, window selection is pretty horrendous and inefficient. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004769 Title: Unity alt+tab unclear, improvemet suggestions. Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in Unity: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: When using alt+tab to switch between many tabs, at a glance, it is unclear which icon is currently highlighted. When using Alt+tab shortcut to do a rapid switch - as most people do - I often end up bringing the wrong programme to focus. To put it another way, when I hold Alt and hit tab, tab, tab, tab, tab - it is unclear what programme will jump to the front when I release Alt. There is two reasons for this. 1. The current item is marked by a white glow, and the title of the application is written in small white letters below. - my eye is looking at the icons, not the writing below, so in the split second before I release Alt I am blind to it. - the white glow stands out less then brown background around firefox, the red around settings, the yellow around display, the grey around others and so on. So in a split second I have to decide if its a glow or a background colour. 2. The item after the one currently selected is animated. I want you to try this for yourself so you can see. - Open lots of programmes. - Now use Alt+tab to bring the second last item to focus. - As you select the 3rd last item, the 2nd last item is animated from a narrow side on view to full size icon, when this happens it is intuitive to think you have got the right one, so you release Alt on the wrong one, and have to go through the whole process again. I think this is a major look and feel issue with Unity that needs to be fixed. I find the side listing of programmes quite cumbersome and since the task bar has been done away with I find myself relying on alt+tab even more then on gnome. This could be fixed by an animated enlargement of the currently selected icon, removing the multi-coloured boxes around unselected icons, and reducing the visual impact of the animation of the end icons rotating to full size icons. If I'm using an app that requires concentration (eg, playing Sudoku) the screen might dim even further while I'm thinking (somewhat odd in and of itself, but this is a visual cue that the screen is about to blank, so 'ok'). If I click within the app, the screen is brightened not to the value I selected for the dark room I am in (ie, the dimmest), but to some other brighter value. Interestingly, if I adjust to the dimmest setting and let the screen blank, when I unblank, the screen brightness setting is remembered thereafter (ie, I can play sudoku, let the screen dim, touch the screen and then it is at the brightness I previously selected). What seems to be happening is that the indicator dims the screen, but the value is not actually saved until screen blank and tapping the screen after screen dim before blanking resets it to the previously saved value (ie, not the one I just set via the indicator). Performing various combinations of setting brightness, dimming, blanking, etc seems to confirm this. UPDATE: I'm not sure that the dimmest setting is actually remembered after screen blank after all-- I was sure that I witnessed this, but then last night it didn't appear to be working this way. Yes, well spotted, for me it only happens when the launcher is on the right hand display of a pair. That explains why it is not seen by more users. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303141 Title: [Regression] Unity Gestures: Launcher doesn't slide in Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I just tried Ubuntu 12.04.4 from a USB stick to compare it to 14.04. On 12.04 the launcher does slide in beautifully and in sync with the fingers when swiping with 4 fingers from left to right on a touchpad. The problem: On 14.04 the launcher suddenly appears, giving no hint on whether the gesture acually works or how far the launcher is slided in. I assume this happens with windows that want to resize themselves if their height exceeds the display resolution. Reproducable on my 1366x768 screen with LibreOffice and a Qt 5 desktop application I'm working on. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1304568] [NEW] Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel launch
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Have used 14.04LTS Beta 2 for about a week, it was an in place upgrade, all seemed well. However this morning starting the system I got the background but no panel and no launcher. Right click on the screen gave the settings menu and all settings could be accessed, but still no launcher or panel. I downloaded 14.04LTS Beta2 and made a USB stick, did a complete install, formatting / but not the other paritions. When restarted again no panel, no launcher but access to the settings menuis available. I used to be able to start terminal by using ctrl+alt+t, but that does not work anymore. ICannot access anything on the perfectly good screen. Shutting down by pressing the startup knob and then restarting provides the sam eproblem. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: urgent -- Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel launch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1304568 You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages Post to : dx-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
