It works fine. getent passwd and getent shadow works fine. I am able to login in console without any problems. I was able to login in lightdm. Then I used the lock screen. I could not disable the lock screen using my password. I rebooted my computer. Now: After logging in through lightdm, the unity lockscreen locks the screen immediately and I can not disable it using my password. From my short inspection of auth.log and unix_chkpwd sources it seems, that unix_chkpwd works fine when called from lightdm and fails to get user info when called from unity lockscreen. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release: 14.04 apt-cache policy unity lightdm libpam-modules unity: Installed: 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status lightdm: Installed: 1.10.0-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 1.10.0-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 1.10.0-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status libpam-modules: Installed: 1.1.8-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.1.8-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.1.8-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Contents of /var/log/auth.log: Apr 29 06:49:27 localhost lightdm: pam_succeed_if(lightdm:auth): requirement user ingroup nopasswdlogin not met by user user Apr 29 06:49:31 localhost lightdm: pam_unix(lightdm:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=:2 ruser= rhost= user=user Apr 29 06:49:31 localhost lightdm: pam_krb5(lightdm:auth): user user authenticated as user@NETWORK Apr 29 06:49:32 localhost lightdm[15604]: pam_unix(lightdm-greeter:session): session closed for user lightdm Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost unix_chkpwd[15825]: check pass; user unknown Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost unix_chkpwd[15825]: password check failed for user (user) Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost compiz: pam_unix(lightdm:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=1001 euid=1001 tty= ruser= rhost= user=user Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost compiz: pam_krb5(lightdm:auth): user user authenticated as user@NETWORK Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost unix_chkpwd[15826]: could not obtain user info (user) Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost unix_chkpwd[15827]: could not obtain user info (user) Apr 29 06:49:37 localhost compiz: pam_succeed_if(lightdm:auth): requirement user ingroup nopasswdlogin not met by user user cat /etc/pam.d/common-auth account requiredpam_unix.so authrequiredpam_group.so auth [success=2 default=ignore] pam_unix.so try_first_pass nullok_secure auth [success=1 default=ignore] pam_krb5.so try_first_pass minimum_uid=200 authrequisite pam_deny.so authrequiredpam_permit.so authoptionalpam_afs_session.so minimum_uid=200 authoptionalpam_ecryptfs.so unwrap authoptionalpam_cap.so cat /etc/pam.d/common-account account requiredpam_unix.so cat /etc/pam.d/lightdm authrequisite pam_nologin.so authsufficient pam_succeed_if.so user ingroup nopasswdlogin @include common-auth authoptionalpam_gnome_keyring.so @include common-account session [success=ok ignore=ignore module_unknown=ignore default=bad] pam_selinux.so close authoptionalpam_group.so session requiredpam_limits.so @include common-session session [success=ok ignore=ignore module_unknown=ignore default=bad] pam_selinux.so open session optionalpam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start session requiredpam_env.so readenv=1 session requiredpam_env.so readenv=1 user_readenv=1 envfile=/etc/default/locale @include common-password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1314095/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages Post to : dx-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283775] Re: Launcher: icon pips are not always updated properly
I apologize, I might have been semi incorrect with my post. According to this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1309739 the highlighted offset is a work in progress. It's my understanding that the pips and the highlighted edges are similarly controlled, as in if you fix one you fix the other. That said, it would stand to reason that some of these pips vs highlights bugs would be merged into one, but that doesn't appear to be the case, so maybe they're different. Either way, I cannot put into words enough how soon I want to see that fix land. You'd think it's something that users wouldn't notice, but when it's already a poor way (highlighted edges, that is) to tell that an application needs attention AND they face a bug like this where it has offset highlighting and one pixel sized pips, it makes you realize how much bigger the problem is from a usability standpoint. I mean, just take a look at Skype (really this applies to any application but I'll pick on Skype here). Compare Skype idle vs Skype needing attention. The blue color differences might be two hex shades off, and the thickness is hardly a pixel wider when it needs attention. I mean, THIS is how we tell that we have a notification? This is one area where Windows 7 and OSX got it right. Flushing the session bus was introduced in version 4 and is obviously bogus as in a system D-BUS service there is no session bus. This causes lots of confusing error messages and unnecessary overhead like trying to start dbus-launch. Flushing the system bus is low-risk, in most cases it's a no-op and it would otherwise prevent losing signals after waking up. No known regressions. TEST CASE: Run several suspend/resume cycles with the lid, session indicator menu, and verify that the network comes back up. It is known that this fix is necessary but not sufficient, so it is not expected to fix all cases. But it should not make things worse, so if network now does not come up any more on a machine where it previously worked this would count as failure/regression. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems
The two most recent updates to 12.04 have caused even more serious productivity problems than ever. Autoclick timeout has decreased to near zero. I haven't had the time to try to discover how to adjust this, if it's even possible to adjust. It's ridiculously easy to accidentally some magic key combination, performing an undesired, and almost certainly undesirable, action. The latest update removed ability to copy/paste URL addresses from the address bar in Firefox. Ability to do so has been very useful to me in the past and I'm extremely annoyed that it is no longer available. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272448 Title: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are current. 1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December and has continued to date (January 24, 2014). 2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem appeared after January 1, 2014. 3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable unless I reboot. Long-standing issue. 4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and- paste. 5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames become transparent and Firefox no longer works. 6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB main memory!). Very alarming. 7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using gestures shortly after January 1, 2014. 8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them. 9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people. Surely you can do better than that. This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4 filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date. What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a stable release? This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999 (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint 14 on other boxes, an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620. None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like these do). Unity sucks stumpwater. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems
And, what's more keyboard response has become excruciatingly slow.
