Title:
AltGr key acts like "Select All"

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The bug I noticed only in one application – LibreOffice, but I suspect Unity
because using other desktop environments (including Openbox, Gnome and Gnome
classic) there is no bug.
It's imposible to insert symbols from third keyboard level using combinations
with AltGr key (I'm using Lithuanian standard layout).

  Reproduction steps:
  Open desired LibreOffice document,
hit Ctrl+F or Ctrl+H ("Search" or "Search and Replace"),
  Type some chars,
  Press AltGr (right Alt) key.

  Result:
the text in the field is selected. Entering next char removes all previously
entered characters.

Sometimes the bug appears not right after user login but 1 or few minutes
later.
  Tested with >10 PCs.

LibreOffice – tested with several versions
  unity 7.2.5
  Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

Hello Kumbarov,

please mark "This bug affects you".
For identification of source of the bug the wider description of your setup is
needed, including LO version and GUI language, Unity version and Ubuntu locale
settings.
Did you have tried the workaround from post #1? Did it works for you?

Bug description:
When i click on the dash-button, or press the windows-key, it has
taken longer and longer time for my programs to appear. Now they don't
appear at all. The programs which don't use the dash-button still
works. I get the text "There is nothing which matches your search" in
Swedish. If i type in a program after pressing the dash-key, i get the
same response. If i go around this error and start a terminal-window,
then the same text result in program starting.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 987060] Re: massive memory leak in unity-panel-service and hud-service when invoking the hud on Firefox profiles with large amounts of bookmarks LTS 12.04 14.04

2015-09-19 Thread Valentin Crone
I have personnaly disabled the execution of hud-service (chmod 000)
because my computer use always 6GB of ram including 3GB by hud-service.

And the last time hud service was running it take 18.7GB of RAM for 16GB
available.
Please fix this bug, on computer with only 4GB of ram it's a huge problem...
And sometimes it takes 100% of one I5 core, it provide lag and freezes...

  2. hit Alt to bring up HUD
  3. type any text
  4. select one proposal from HUD
  5. wait for unity-panel-service and hud-service to fill up the remaining RAM

This is due to a high number of bookmarks in a user profile

At random times, Launcher does not respond to clicks too close to the
  left border of the screen

Status in Unity:
  Invalid
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have Launcher set up to not automatically hide (because it's buggy
and it would stop showing up too often).

Usually, you can click on a launcher icon even on the leftmost column of
pixels and it will respond to clicks.
Sometimes however, randomly, if you click on the very leftmost region, i.e.
just next to the left border of the screen, it will not respond to click; you
then have to click a little bit more to the right, inside the rounded rectangle
that surrounds the icon, for it to work.
Then, after doing some random things with the mouse (switching focus between
different windows, closing some), it behaves normally again

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1497163] Re: Crash when I click on icon on application bar and there are multiple windows open for that application

2015-09-19 Thread Andrea Azzarone
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1442455 ***

Ok, so the real problem is that the scale should not be loaded after
unityshell. You can manually fix it in this way:

1. open ccsm
2. Preferences
3. Plugin list
4. Disable "Automatic Plugin Sorting"
5. Select scale in the right list
6. Click on "<" button
7. Enable"Automatic Pluging Sorting"
8. Reopen ccsm and enable scale
9. Make sure that scale is not the last in the list

Now it should work. The question now is why your config was messed up?
Did you play with ccsm before?

well, I do not rembemer using ccsm with this Ubuntu installation that
happen in 2013 (you can check in the original bug report).
I did play with it in the past, when ccsm and compiz were new, but was like
2009 or 2010 and on different instllation and machine.

I actually installed ccsm when you asked for the screenshot.

Anyway maybe it is because I just upgrade from release to release since
13.04?

BTW, the fix worked, without even restarting anything. Great thanks! :)

Title:
Finding an application to launch from Dash is ridiculously slow

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Launching an application that you don't have locked on the launcher
is extremely painful. And we don't want to fill up the launcher with
dozens of icons, right? because it would become essentially useless.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - click on the Dash icon on the top left of the screen
  - start typing the name of the application to launch

  Expected:
the list of applications that match the name should appear INSTANTLY, and
keep updating INSTANTLY as you keep typing.

  Observed:
it takes an insanely long time to first show a bunch of results of files in
your computer, and then PURE GARBAGE such as suggested searches on Wikipedia.

When I type "Tortoise" in order to run TortoiseHg (which is installed
on my system), I always see the f***ing link to the Wikipedia page
for "tortoise" (the animal) appear way before the icon of the
  application appears.

  There are several issues here
  1) The "More suggestion" part, with suggested results from searches on the
Internet, is COMPLETELY USELESS and should be removed. We already have browsers
and Google for that.
  2) Searching for files on the computer is obviously orders of magnitude
slower than searching for an application, and hence it's totally INSANE to have
both in the same search box. Running an application and searching for a file
should be separate options
  3) The list of applications should be cached, and/or stored more efficiently,
because it's absolutely ridiculous that finding an application by its name
(among no more than few dozens that one may have installed in total) takes
several seconds on a fast computer, when the same search could be performed in
an instant on a 10-year-old PC.
  4) Searching for an application should be given the highest priority. It's
ridiculous that it gets slowed down because files (and stupid internet
searches) are done before, or maybe at the same time.

This is a huge step backwards in usability (which happened quite a
long ago, I know), and the most irritating thing is that this was by
  design.

Title:
Alt-tab in unity only raises one window of a multi-window application

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Borrowing from OS X rather than Windows, Unity makes Alt-Tab switch by
application rather than by window. However, unlike OS X, Unity only
raises one window, seemingly selected at random, when you Alt-Tab to
  an application with multiple windows.

This makes it extremely difficult to Alt-Tab quickly between two
applications when using two monitors. If I have two monitors with:

  Monitor 1: Chrome + Terminal + Emacs
  Monitor 2: Chrome

Now, focus the Chrome in monitor 1. Alt-Tab to the Terminal. Try to
Alt-Tab back to monitor 1's Chrome. Even if the mouse is on the left
half, only monitor 2's Chrome raises. This behavior makes window
management very frustrating; it breaks LRU and makes it hard to flip
between two windows. It's also hard to tell if anything even happened,
so I lose track of what app I switched to.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1415637] Re: Finding an application to launch from Dash is ridiculously slow

2015-09-19 Thread teo1978
Thanks for the tips.

However this is still an issue:

1) "Security and Privacy" is a not a sensible place for the setting to
include online search results. What does it have to do with privacy or
security?

2) Even if that is enabled, applications should have a higher priority.
It's unacceptable that finding an application to launch becomes slower
because Dash is wasting time doing internet searches before or while
searching for applications.

3) it should seriously be considered to disable it by default. It's
totally useless. For searching the web we have browsers.

This is a huge step backwards in usability (which happened quite a
long ago, I know), and the most irritating thing is that this was by
  design.

2015-09-19 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Not sure why this is happening but the crash is due the scale plugin
being loaded after unityshell one. To fix this issue please look at bug
1497163. There is a step by step guide how to fix the problem.
