[Dx4win] How to Record Different QSL magrs for CW/SSB?
K1B has RZ3AA for SSB contacts and YT1AD for all other modes. Is there = any way I can handle this? Seems only the date can be changed in the = manager file, and that won't work in this case. Wish list: Mode = indicator in the Manager File. Guess I can log them as K1B/SSB and K1B/CW and get around the problem... 73, John, K2CIB --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- multipart/alternative text/plain (text body -- kept) text/html The reason this message is shown is because the post was in HTML or had an attachment. The only thing I would add is to use Alt-S whenever you've made a good one. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the World HF Contest Station Database at www.pvrc.org
[Dx4win] Does dx4win.cty automatically update?
I have worked K1B from my shack computer and changed the country to KH1. All of my contacts there are being properly reported as Baker-Howland. I routinely export from the shack computer as ADIF and import that file into my house computer which is 200 yards away. The house computer is where I log in QSL's, print lables and make reports. My preferences under imports is set to accept imported values. The contacts import properly as KH1 Baker-Howland. My question is - has the house dx4win.cty been properly updated for the K1B exception with this procedure? In a related case about 1000 QSO's from way back were imported into DX4Win. Originally there were errors reported and I went through the log and changed each country and zone to it's proper value. I assume that updated the dx4win.cty file but later I refreshed DX4Win and by mistake installed the current 5.03 dx4win.cty file. However the imported QSO's did not change - however about 75 contacts were marked error in the notes field. My related question is - did the virgin dx4win.cty file somehow automagically get modified to reflect the changes in the related case? Based on the above behavior it seems to me that dx4win.cty always changes to reflect the country and zone information in an existing or imported file. Why then is there a merge facility and when is it necessary to do this? I have never done the merge thing and my log _seems_ to be accurate. 73, Larry Alkoff N2LA Larry Alkoff N2LA - Austin TX
[Dx4win] Backup logs
But WriteLog will! Yes, DX4WIN is one of the few programs that supports LPT01 keying under Windows 2000 (WriteLog does not directly), but I use the serial port with Writelog and hopefully DX4WIN will soon allow using a separate serial port for CW keying and PTT. This will allow the PSK31 plugin to work properly with PTT. I save the log after every qso or so, and backup the log and .cty file to a secondary drive as well as keep CDR copies. Even without all of these backup precautions, I have NEVER lost a log in DX4WIN or Writelog (which I import into DX4WIN) even when I had a Compaq Athlon 500 that was very buggy from the factory and crashed daily until Compaq changed the bios and several programs. One of the main reasons that Windows 2000 and NT are so stable is that they DO NOT ALLOW any program direct I/O access. Impossible to blue screen unless you have a buggy driver (and there are some). This makes the old DOS programs unworkable IF they make direct I/O calls. If they installed a proper driver and used it, they work just fine under Windows 2000 also. Alt-S ensures that your last contact is properly saved to the log, although it is saved to the temporary log based on the time you set in preferences. I wish there was an option to automatically do a Alt-S type save every time you hit enter. There are pros and cons with this, and I have discussed them with Paul before, but I still wish I had this option. Writelog, however, does the same as DX4WIN in that it keeps a running save and it prompts you to do a complete manual save every 25 qso's or so. Have never lost a qso with it either, so that process seems to work well on both DX4WIN and WriteLog. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Pete Smith Sent: Friday, May 03, 2002 6:34 AM To: Wendell Wyly W5FL; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Backup logs At 09:06 PM 5/2/02 -0500, Wendell Wyly W5FL wrote: What kind of computer and operating system are you running to have that much trouble? I routinely export from the shack computer as ADIF and import that file into my house computer which is 200 yards away. I hope you are seriously considering a wireless home network. You would simply be amazed at how useful it is! Drag - drop - POOF, it's on the other machine! GL - 73
[Dx4win] CW Keyboard question
Finally got around to building the interface to key the rig from DX4Win. Used a 1k resister in series with the base of a 2n, emitter to ground, collector to the key jack on my K2. Circuit built into db25 d-shell on LPT1. When I use the keyboard window to send anything the key line goes to ground and the K2 stays in transmit (no make/break on the keying line from LPT1). If I pull the key jack out of the plug the rig goes back to receive (if the keyboard doesn't have anything left to send). 1. When using the keyboard interface the keying line sees 'stuck' in send. 2. when I pull the jack out, it goes back to receive. What am I missing here? Did I miss a config somewhere? (I did tell DX4Win LPT1 in the Preferences dialog box). BTW, the computer interface to the rig works fine (serial). Any ideas? Thanks, Mike W1USN

I wish there was an option to automatically do a Alt-S type save every time you hit enter. There are pros and cons with this, and I have discussed them with Paul before, but I still wish I had this option. I too have asked for this option several times, but I have never heard the reasons adding the option would be a bad idea. Obviously it would eat a bit of performance because it requires updating the whole log after each Enter. Other than that, what are the cons? 73, Paul K5ESW
