RE: [Dx4win] omnirig
Hi Kostas and others, Paul and I discussed the problems with the OMNI VII Earlier this week but we didn´t have one to test with, The mayor problem with this rig is the commands that Tentec use (example |=CR - vertical bar = carriage return) Since no other radio use these shortcuts or whatever you call them They are not recognized in DX4WIN (for the moment being) After reading the last mail this morning I drove 300 KM To pick up a omni VII from a friend to debug all the possibilities With Paul. (maybe later today or this week) Since I didn´t have the original supplied serial cable brought with me I took a straight (working) serial cable like they write in there manual, But this doesn´t work !! (works ok with my LP100A) tried with several programs. Got it working with a trusted USB to serial converter where I can arrange the pins Only 5 connections are needed btw. (If I wasn´t smarter I could have start yelling stupid programs They never work etc etc). Most of the time the problems with radios or other connected items is not software related but a hardware problem. I had 10 or even more(different brands) USB to serial adapters but only one brand Does the job 100% correct. With hyperterminal and a loopback dongle you can check if all your hardware Is working perfect. BTW Kostas A serial port in your computer can only be used 1 time. Dx4win checks if available and use it if configured in your preferences otherwise it gives you a message not available etc. Back to the OMNI VII now and see what can be changed in the different rigfiles I have from Some users (K5NA-G4RQI) GUY ON4AOI -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Namens Kostas SV1DPI Verzonden: zaterdag 15 november 2008 22:54 Aan: REFLECTOR dx4win Onderwerp: [Dx4win] omnirig i have seen that many have problems one or other way with rig control. Dx4win is not the problem the most of the time. But maybe it's time Paul and dx4win supports omnirig, a free cat control program. It would be an alternative in every case... Either for a new rig or even to check if there is a problem in dx4win or in your radio (this can be done and today). Besides this someone will have the ability to run 2 programs which both support omnirig the same time... RE: [Dx4win] omnirig
Guy Kostas was not asking about support for the Ten Tec Omni; rather that DX4WIN uses some software called OMNIRIG to do universal rig control; as a loadable software module ? I understood his question to be referring to many weaknesses of DX4WIN and rig control ? I hope I did understand this properly; I have quoted from Kostas below: But maybe it's time Paul and dx4win supports omnirig, a free cat control program. It would be an alternative in every case... RE: [Dx4win] CW build or buy
Many thanks dear Kostas Now, I now the right ports and maybe more simply to build a cable. I received an answer from Randy W8FN (many thanks Randy) about Winkey and I have bought one today, because he says Winkey is a very good sollution. Very soon a I will tell you about de history end a how it is. Well, I hope meet you very soon on QRG, or personally... tanks my friend 73, PT2CC Mac from Brasilia - Brasil From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] CW build or buy Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2008 23:46:38 +0200 Hello Mac in com port pin4 is dtr pin 7 rts and pin 5 is gnd Even an interface with a 2n or an optocoupler like 4n35 will work, winkey will be better solution. I wish dx4win fully supports the version with the 2 radios in the next release like writelog does. Thanks for reading. I have been using DX4 for years with a printer cable interface. Now, I have only a notebook and 3 USB ports. On DX4 help file there is information how to build a DB25 cable and/or DB9 transformation. The draw diagram shows pins 20 DTR and 7 GND. Above there is a table with: DTR pin 20, RTS pin 7 and GND pin 4 (not 7) What is the right? And how about DB9 my mainly focus.. The information on the table is ok? pin 4 DTR - pin 5 RTS and pin 7 GND There is a seller that can buy an industrial or made home DB9 cable, please? Maybe other solution like Winkey - or similar - will be more useful. I have DX4Win 7.05 installed on Acer Travelmate 6292 - XP SP3. I wil use it only for CW. I bought a USB to RS232 converter and it works with others applications. Many thanks in advanced and all ideas are welcome. Please help me to chose a good solution. 73, from Mac PT2CC _ Confira vídeos com notícias do NY Times, gols direto do Lance, videocassetadas e muito mais no MSN Video! http://video.msn.com/?mkt=pt-br ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win _ Receba GRÁTIS as mensagens do Messenger no seu celular quando você estiver offline. Re: [Dx4win] omnirig
I don't mean that dx4win has any weakeness in rig control. I just said that i read some problems (possibly not related) abt rig control. After these emails i thought that it is time to think for a new feature: omnirig. That doesn't solve any possible problem but we have another choise. omnirig is a freeware program that controls a rig. Dx4win must have an additional radio choise. So instead of icom 756 you will choose omnirig and in omnirig program will choose icom 756. Something like ve7cc program works with clusters. This feature will help anyone wants to run multiple programs, written by different authors in different languages, to control the radio via Omni-Rig at the same time. Beside all these when a new radio must be supported we will not need to wait for a new dx4win upgrade because we will have a second choise: omnirig ; at least until the new dx4win version. Finally it is just a thought or request for a feature and nothing less or more. 73 Kostas sv1dpi PS sorry if my english are not so good and made a misunderstood. - Original Message - From: Dave Sharred [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: ON4AOI [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 'Kostas SV1DPI' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sunday, November 16, 2008 4:52 PM Subject: RE: [Dx4win] omnirig Guy Kostas was not asking about support for the Ten Tec Omni; rather that DX4WIN uses some software called OMNIRIG to do universal rig control; as a loadable software module ? RE: [Dx4win] DX4Win doesn't recognize the rig (solved)
As I guessed, the problem was never with DX4Win, the problem was between my two ears. Here's what happened, in case it might benefit someone else. I'm clearly in some alternate universe. In the Rigblaster manual there are a number of ways to configure In/Out A and In/Out B for rig control, PTT, CW and FSK. I circled the settings the rig control, PTT and CW on In/Out A (goes to COM1), and FSK on In/Out B (goes to COM3). That means I must have selected the jumper for that setting, right? No, that would be something a normal person would do, actually doing what's circled. For some reason, I have FSK, PTT and CW on In/Out A and rig control on In/Out B. None of that is circled, of course (well, IT IS NOW). I figured it out by trying, for the umpteenth time, to Start Radio. Then I noticed a brief flicker of light on the Rigblaster. It was the FSK indicator. So I tried to Start Radio again. The FSK indicator flickered 6 times. HEY, that's the number of tries I specified. I wonder if.NO, couldn't be. Could it? Plugged In/Out B into COM3, specified COM3 for rig control, and you can all guess what happened. My brothers have this word they call me, which is now apparently all too true...DOPE! Apologies to all for the waste of time. 73, Joe KQ3F _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Joe Stepansky Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 3:52 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX4Win doesn't recognize the rig For whatever reason, my newly installed DX4Win 7 won't see my rig. [Dx4win] 160 meter spots??
I am having a problem with 160 meter spots. I am making a few contacts in the Sweepstakes. I see the 160 spots pass by in the packet window (connected telnet to W9ZRX cluster). But they don't appear in the DX spots window. I have 160 enabled in Station, DXCC, WAS, WAZ and ignore gray spots is unchecked. SSB and CW both checked. Prefixes for spotters, K VE. Running 7.04.04. Anybody else observe this problem? ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
