Re: [Dx4win] Problem with incorrect QSL manager info

2009-09-20 Thread Mel
Thanks all for the explanation.

I must say I prefer the way my old logger handled this. Changing a QSL
manager in the log automatically updated the QSL manager info by
creating a new entry and start date.

Perhaps Paul might consider changing this at some point. It would be a
lot more convenient.

Alan Zack wrote:
What ever is in the QSL Managers database will over ride anything you
type in the QSL Managers box. You need to open and modify this QSL
Managers data base to add the correct QSL Mgr for the time frame of the
contact once you are sure you have the correct info.

I had the same problem with H44MY so I changed the QSL MGR database. It
was showing JA0IXW who used the call H44MY in 2004 and before.

I hope I am doing this myself correctly. What I do is open the QSL Mgr
database. Line 1 is always blank. There I enter H44MY and left click on
the DATE column (TAB won't work). That causes H44MY to jump to a new
line in alphabetical order just after H44MX (in my database anyway).
Then in the next column I enter the effective date. In the case of H44MY
I don't know the exact date, QRZ.COM just says from Nov 2008 onward use
OM2SA, so I entered 11/01/2008. Then in the next column I entered OM2SA.
Then I click on SAVE CHANGES AND EXIT. Now, any QSO with H44MY after
11/01/2008 will show OM2SA as the QSL MGR.

Hope this works for you and hope that is the correct way of doing it. I
am open to any suggestions or comments.

Subject: [Dx4win] Problem with incorrect QSL manager info

 Hi folks,

I've run into a problem which I have no idea how to solve. Here's the
 situation:

I worked H44MY for a new entity on 30M. Entered all the info I had
and found out that the QSL manager callsign I put in the log was
wrong. Tried to fix it, but although the program will allow me to
enter another callsign in the QSL Manager box, when I save it nothing
happens to change the QSL manager callsign. I've tried it on two
machines, same problem. Same thing with deleting the QSO and then
entering off-line -- no joy. Shut off the computer, restarted, still
 no joy.

Ideas are MORE than welcome. I put the correct callsign (OM2SA) in
the notes area, and that's fine, but it really ought to go into the
QSL manager block, I would think. It would also make it a little
easier when I print labels for the cards.

Thanks, in advance, for your help and very 73,

 Karl, K1KO

[Dx4win] DX4WIN PSK Vista

2009-09-20 Thread py2xb
Hello. I need some help on this

I recently moved to Windows Vista. DX4WIN is working ok except by PSK
windown. BTW I am using version 7.07.02

I have the built in soundcard in the computer as well as an external
soundcard. I need to use the external soundcard for PSK, once the built-in
in set up for other applications.
Unfortunately DX4WIN just allows you to set soundcard number and not
soundcard inputs/ouputs. So even though I set for SOINDCARD1 in preferences
, it keeps on picking different input and output devices every time I open
the program.

Eventually I make it work but I really don't know exactly what to do next
nite I enter in the program.

I am wondering if someone could bring some light to this matter and/or if
this is corrected in the 8.X vewrsion.

Thanks and regards Fred

[Dx4win] Fwd: Re: DX4WIN PSK Vista

2009-09-20 Thread py2xb

Hi Jim

Always good to hear from you.

Yes, indeed I am running DX4WIN as administrator all the time.

I guess the big issue is that the sondcard0, 1, 2.. is good for Windows XP
but not for Vista. Vista applications must choose specific inputs/outputs
and not soundcards.

Just as an exemple, I have moved MMTY from XP to Vista as well. In the new
MMTY version that supports soundcard correctly on Vista, you can choose the
input sound source and the output you use. MMTY works perfectly.
I guess DX4WIN would need to do the same thing.

If there is not any fix or the due implementation on the newer version, it
is likely PSK window will not work correct in a given hardware.

This is a shame because I like DX4WIN so much. Whether we like or not
DX4WIN must keep up with the current windows versions or it will be
outdated soon.

I still have a hope there is a fix or a work around.

Re: [Dx4win] Fwd: Re: DX4WIN PSK Vista

 XP does this too.

I think the issue may be out board sound cards using different input output
numbers. I note that MMTTY has the capability to specify different I/O
numbers for the sound card. I haven't looked at what enhancements have been
made in this area in V8 but it may well be an area that needs upgrading as
new hardware becomes more popular in use.

One way around this may be to assign your out board, USB? Sound card as the
default in the OS but this could raise the problem of other sounds being
played on air which is not a good thing.

2009-09-20 Thread Mel
Fred... Vista and XP are exactly the same in this regard. I have already
requested this change to Paul. It also is a problem for me if I plug in
my web cam which has only a sound input and no corresponding output.
When it is plugged in I have to use card 2 for input and card 1 for
output which DX4Win cannot accommodate.

There are much better programs for PSK. Hopefully, one of these days,
Paul will support interfacing with one or more of them directly. DM780
has a UDP interface that should be relatively easy to implement.

One way around this may be to assign your out board, USB? Sound card as
 the

played on air which is not a good thing.

Subject: [Dx4win] Fwd: Re: DX4WIN PSK Vista

 Hi Jim

Always good to hear from you.

Yes, indeed I am running DX4WIN as administrator all the time.

I guess the big issue is that the sondcard0, 1, 2.. is good for Windows
 XP
but not for Vista. Vista applications must choose specific inputs/outputs
 and not soundcards.

Just as an exemple, I have moved MMTY from XP to Vista as well. In the
 new
MMTY version that supports soundcard correctly on Vista, you can choose
 the
input sound source and the output you use. MMTY works perfectly.
I guess DX4WIN would need to do the same thing.

If there is not any fix or the due implementation on the newer version,
 it
is likely PSK window will not work correct in a given hardware.

This is a shame because I like DX4WIN so much. Whether we like or not
 DX4WIN
must keep up with the current windows versions or it will be outdated
 soon.
I still have a hope there is a fix or a work around.

Hello. I need some help on this

I have the built in soundcard in the computer as well as an external
soundcard. I need to use the external soundcard for PSK, once the
built-in in set up for other applications.
Unfortunately DX4WIN just allows you to set soundcard number and not
soundcard inputs/ouputs. So even though I set for SOINDCARD1 in

Eventually I make it work but I really don't know exactly what to do

I am wondering if someone could bring some light to this matter
 and/or
 if
this is corrected in the 8.X vewrsion.

Hi all,

When the announce/talk window pops open, it is always blank, no text. Any

Thanks

Re: [Dx4win] Fwd: Re: DX4WIN PSK Vista

2009-09-20 Thread John Shaw
 Hi Fred,

Well I am no certainly expert in all of this. Using XP here. Currently
this is not a problem for me as I don't use PSK much. I do use MMTTY and I
had noted that it now provides separate I/O sound devices, fortunately for
RTTY I use FSK so I already have the ability to assign separate I/O's
because the output is not to a sound device and is already supported. I use
a MicroKeyer II here and I note that router software for that now provides
separate I/O's for the soundcard in it. So they must have done their
homework on this in line with new OS requirements. Probably why I am seeing
this in XP.

Since we have now raised this issue, lets leave it to the experts to work it
through and implement a solution.

Ok John. Thanks for the input

The buit-in soundcard has many input and outputs. The external USB one has
also some in and outs. Vista threats them as several INs and OUTs.
Unfortunately DX4WIN is not treating them individually.
I did not know it happens to Windows XP too. My previous computer was a
Windows 2003 and my notebook is a XP, but both with a single and simple
soundcards.

It deos not to seem good. I may need to use another program for PSK or
another logging program that has all sorted out.

Only when the program starts, or when a new talk/ann comes in? The
list is always empty when the program starts; DX4WIN does not save
announcements like it does for DX spots. DX4WIN has always been this
way.
