[Dx4win] Problems with F-keys

2010-06-23 Thread Mel SM0MPV
Hello All,

I have a strange problem. It is not possible to use the
F.keys in the
DX4WIN log program. It is possible in all other programs and
in the
MMTTY window. Is it possible to turn off the F-keys? This
problem
started when I tried to configure RTTY and PSK.
I am using Windows XP version 2002 SP3 and DX4WIN 8.04

Cheers

Well Arne, I don't understand what your problem is. I was only responding
to your question. I'm not having a problem, I think DX4WIN works
wonderfully.

John

I have GROUPS 0, 1, 2, and 3defined.

If I search for any of the 4 groups by group number I get only those QSOs
for that group. When I total the number of QSOs I selected in FILTER
(group) of the 4 groups I get the total number of QSOs in my log. That
tells me the filter function by groups is working properly.

Not sure what you mean by illogical fashion. I defined my needs for groups
and the log does sort (filter) by those "needs", in otherwords, "my
groups".

I have my entire log for N7KA going back to June 1978 is entered into
DX4WIN. Group 0 identiined as all QSOs prior to 01 JAN1983 (the date that
VUCC started). I lived in Tucson, AZ in 01 JAN 1983 so have defined Group 1
by the 6 digit grid square I was living and operating from. Group 2 is
defined by my current 6 digit grid square beginning 24 FEB, 1985. Group 3
is defined as the grid square I operated portable on 6M Sunday 20 June 2010.
They all sort properly when I select FILTER and enter the group number.

At start-up my correct group 2 is displayed in the QSO WINDOW GROUP box.
(that is what I have set as default) If I change and SAVE the group number
in the FILE|PREFERENCES|QSO group box, this becomes the group number
displayed in the QSO WINDOW upon starting the program. You MUST do
QSO|Real-time after the program is booted to set the program to begin
logging for the day, otherwise you get data from the last QSO entered in
your log. BTW all 4 of my groups do come up at start if I have defined a
group as the default.

l also keep my group number and description written on paper and stored in
my manual as backup; group number description, date range, and any other
info I determine is relevant.

Re: [Dx4win] Group question

2010-06-23 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
John,

If you want the group you added (by changing the group number in Preferences)
to show up in Edit Group Names, you must add it, by doing Filter, Group Names,
Add. You can change the name at this point also, but note that after you
change the name, you must click on Change. Once you have done that, you can
add that group to a Selection by going to the selection you want to add it to,
finding the new group number, double-clicking on the new group number (this
will add an "x" to the left of the group number) and then clicking Update.

In my opinion, the use of Selections, in addition to the group numbering, is an
extremely powerful tool within DX4Win, allowing you to separate QSOs from
various locations easily. Personally, I think Arne's log groupings would be
accomplished much better by using Selections - this would allow further
separation (e.g. for contests) within each Selection. But it is all personal
preference...

[Dx4win] Custom band decoder output

2010-06-23 Thread Pete Smith N4ZR
I have a simple interface between my computer and my Ameritron RCS-10
antenna switch, which applies the BCD output from the LPT port through a
driver IC directly to the BCD lines going out to the remote relay box.
Simple and cheap, compared to a band decoder, but what it means is that
I must be able to configure the band output of the logging programs I
use to send the same BCD code for 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10, so that the
antenna switch will select my tribander when any of those bands is active.

N1MM Logger has a very configurable band data output scheme, which
supports this requirement plus additional antenna choices for 40 and 80
with their own unique BCD codes. DXLab has a totally configurable
scheme, but it's a little daunting, compared to N1MM's simple,
English-language configuration dialog.

I wonder if there is any prospect that DX4WIN might add such a feature
(like N1MM's, that is) in an upcoming release.

Re: [Dx4win] Group question

2010-06-23 Thread John Shaw
Using version 8.04.

When I set the group to "0" in the preferences and then go to real time
entry the group is "0" so I cant reproduce your result for that one.

If I set the group in preferences to a group not previously set up and go to
real time entry it does come up as the group set and will log it as such.

As a consequence after that if I go to "Filter|Edit Group Names" the new
group generated this way does not show up in the list and am not being able
to use Filter|Select to find that QSO, it can be searched for by using F8.
Since F8 search can be used it can be set to another group using
QSO|Multiple QSO Operations.

So other than being able to do something in an illogical fashion it would
seem to be function ok. If I want to have a new group of QSO's I have
always generated the new group by using the Filter|Edit Group Names function
before logging or importing a QSO to that group in my log.

As a aside note I don't log any QSO's to group "0", start from group 1 then
you will be able to do a group filter search for any and or all QSO's in the
log. "0" is a group of everything, including itself, a group of all groups
if you like.

My error.  I wanted to post it to reflector so others could try it..

Will try the date range filter to and try to set groups.  I saw somewhere
that you had to set a group prior to import.

I just set the FILE|PREFERENCE QSO group to 0.  Saved change on EXIT.  Then
clicked on QSO Real time in QSO window and group changed from 2 (what I had
set as my default) to 0 (the changed I just made).  Changed group to 5 and
clicked real time QSO and 5 displayed in QSO WINDOW group.  I do not have a
group 5 established in the QSO|FILTER|EDIT GROUPS window.  manual it will
accept any number in the range 0-255.

This is very easy to do.  Save the charge made on FILE|PREFERENCES|QSO click
on QSO|Real Time in QSO WINDOW and you are good to go.

Sending this to reflector also this time.
