Re: [Dx4win] Deleting older versions?

One thing to add (based on an experience I just had trying to remove 8.03):

In DX4WIN 8.0x, first uninstall the LPT driver by going into the:

  dx4w803\lptdriver

directory and running unins000.exe.

Then uninstall that version of DX4WIN. Otherwise, the lptdriver
directory won't be removed.

You will need to run the lptdriver installation again with your most
recent version of DX4WIN if you need it.

The installation process for new versions does not touch the older ones.

 1.  Use the usual Windows Control Panel Add/Remove programs icon to
uninstall them (in Vista/Win7, I believe it's just called Programs).

 -or-

 2.  Go into each DX4W### directory you want to remove and double-click
 on the unins000.exe application.

Re: [Dx4win] Deleting older versions?

2010-08-08 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Jim,

Just for the record, I uninstalled the lpt driver as you suggested. I then
reinstalled it under 8.04. However, it prompted me to install the driver in
the dx4w803\lptdriver folder -- which would have put it right back in the
folder that I had just uninstalled. So I merely typed in a new directory
and selected the main dx4w804 directory under Program Files. Works fine.
Your emails about deleting older versions prompted me to do just that
yesterday. I also upgraded to 8.04 without a hitch.

BTW, nice working you in the NAQP yesterday.

Dave, N4QS

[Dx4win] Some questions

2010-08-08 Thread Mark Lunday
V8.03

* I selected maximum spot age as 30 minutes. Why does the Spot window
continue to display spots older than 30 minutes? I can manually delete old
spots by right-clicking in the spots window and select DELETE OLD SPOTS (30
MIN), but I want it to happen automatically
* Panorama display - not sure I understand this or how to get it to
work. I am confused about the instructions saying click and hold down the
mouse button. In what window?
* In the spots window, when I have the spots sorted by priority and I
do NOT have the RADIO enabled (CAT connection), I see what I expect to see,
the highest priority spots displayed. When I connect to the radio, the
order stays the same as with the radio not enabled, but the cursor/selected
spot in the spot window seems to float. Is this because it is picking the
spot closest to the frequency I am using? I don't want it to do that, if I
can disable that feature while the RADIO is ON

Hi Mark,

Spot age isn't what you think it is. I'll try to explain best as I can.

Let's say 3Y0X in Bouvet is spotted, and you need it for an all-time
new one. The first time it's spotted, you'll get an audible spot
alert (bell or voice announcement). Now if 3Y0X is spotted again 5
minutes later, you will NOT get another alert. Only when the newest
spot is OLDER than the spot age will you get a new alert when there is
an incoming spot for the same call. This prevents you from getting
alerted every minute when a rare one is on and everyone and their
brother (or sister) is making I worked it! spots.

p.s. I suggest you upgrade to 8.04 (latest).

Thanks, Jim! So, I have a follow-on question regarding spot age.

Is there a way to automatically delete all spots older than 30 minutes in
the spot window?

Not that I know of. However, you can calculate the average spots per
30 minutes then size the window for that many spots. That's the only
way I know. But in times of heavy spots, the window may only have
last 15 minutes worth, and during slow hours, maybe 60 minutes worth -
it's not an exact science.
