Hello,
I have also this lockup problem only with DX4win and Win7-64 and it was
terrible from time to time only when entering a call just got the first
letter and freeze for about 8 seconds, after using DX4win since first
editionI was looking for other Log software for this terrible problem.
Good News! since yesterday after making the USB power modifications from Joe
on Windows I have not experienced any lockup. I am running DX4win as told
C\Dx4win and like, not Administrator Rights, I did try setting as
Administrator on Properties, Compatibility and have suffer once a short 1 to
2 sec Lockup, so I have reverted to normal and at the moments no problems.
I will test with LP-Bridge and similar if not cuts as before dew to this
freeze.
Thanks, 73.
Jaime EA6NB.

Hi Jim and Joe,
My luck lasted short time. Everything seemed to work FB after application of
all suggested power modifications, but there it is again, some of the
USB/RS232 ports/devices get again inhibited by Windows, though in much
greater time intervals then before (sometimes all OK during 1 hour of
operation, then suddenly SteppIR or antenna rotor stop responding :(

I can't speak to DX4Win as I do not use it or any other USB to
serial converters for support of SteppIR and rotators. As far as
microHAM goes, FTDI have a serious bug in ftd2xx.dll that causes a
lock up when the computer goes into sleep state or turns off power
to the USB port.
microHAM programmers have recommended uninstalling Router 8.0.7
and replacing it with the older Router 7.7.1 (uses a previous,
stable version of ftd2xx.dll). The information is available from
the microHAM list at:

Until a new (stable) version of d2xx.dll is available, it is wise
to disable all power controls in the computer and set Windows for
High performance. Details are also available on the microHAM

Hi Jim,
Thank you VERY much for the fast response ! I had completely lost my
morale after many tries and multiple freezing of DX4WIN due to
malfunction
or stop of SteppIR and/or rotor control (SteppIR controller was setting
to a
spot or new band only once, for the first time and not reacting to any
further change)
Joe,
Please help !

P.S.: something strange also after install of two identical FTDI
USB/RS232
interfaces on two different com ports: their icons show different names,
one
is called FT232R USB UART and another USB Serial Converter, but both
show identical properties (please see attached file)

This sounds like a similar problem seen on the microHAM list. You
have configure your USB ports NOT to power down. Joe W4TV (copied)
might be able to give you more details.
