Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN version 8.05

2011-01-30 Thread A737Driver
Mr. Paul,

Is there a trick? I downloaded 8.05 per the instructions below, but
the icon on my desktop still opens 8.04.

When I go to the directory and open 8.05 manually, it says it's only
a demo and I won't be able to save my logged contacts.

Hi,

Version 8.05 is available for download from the website, but there is no
visible link yet. To get the installer, use the following url:
www.dx4win.com/files/dx4w805.exe

There was not much time to do a full run of beta tests; so I keep my fingers
crossed!

Thanks to Jim, AD1C, for providing the updates to the country file, awards
file and telnet addresses!

Thanks to Guy, ON4AOI, for doing most of the radio updates.

Re: [Dx4win] FW: My LoTW instructions

Dick,

Thanks for the post of your cheat-sheet. It's a testament to poor
documentation when end users rewrite instructions for themselves.

[Dx4win] LOTW functions

2010-10-07 Thread A737Driver

To: 'k...@arrl.net'
Subject: RE: [Dx4win] LOTW functions

H.O.,

LoTW is a hassle to learn to use. The ARRL knows it. I talked to
em about it at Dayton. They agreed the instructions need to be rewritten.
Unless someone shows you how, or you're just lucky, it's confusing.

Dear /mmx -

I think you missed the whole point. However, let me say that using LoTW is
no more complicated than keeping track of your online LL Bean orders once
you sit down and use it periodically. Using once a year is not the way to
approach it. I speak from experience.

I bet most issues can be traced back to the initial log entry point, if I
understand the premise.

Kostas, et al,

Very true. LoTW is coded to be about as user-hostile as possible.
The League has a full-time help desk (manned by at least one crabby S.O.B.)
dedicated exclusively to assisting people trying to unscramble confusing
LoTW instructions.

I had asked this in past.
Writelog has a feature like this.
It is under file>export>trusted file
You write how you want to save your file and after that with a magic way
writelog reads your certificates and makes a list. You choose the right one,
you give the password (which is saved for the previous time) and voila.
Sorry to say but i think the process as it is now is more confused and most
possible to drive us in a mistake...

[Dx4win] Bulletins?

2010-09-20 Thread A737Driver
Friends,

The DX4Win logging application was recommended to me. I'm very
pleased with it, and am looking forward to learning more about it.

A couple weeks ago, I signed up to the DX4Win Reflector. I used my
ARRL email address, but never received any of the traffic.

My (ever helpful and patient) friend Mr. Paul van der Eijk suggested
I sign up again using my direct email address. I did that, but still have
not received any traffic from the Reflector.

Maybe I don't understand how it works. Does the DX4Win Reflector
administrator email activity to members? Or does sign-up merely permit
access to the website?

Thanks a million,

Mark Dubay
