[Dx4win] Version issue stuck on 16- Jan-2011

2013-02-21 Thread Dave Weiss
Hi Gang:

Here's one I am stumped on:

Windows 7 64, DX4WIN v 8.05 . It seems that I have version dated 16- Jan-
2011 when I check under Call sign Version. Sov. Military Order of Malta

When I use the latest version of UPDATER it tells me that all of my files
are up to date.

I am sure that there is a more current version out there.

The computer is relatively new, just a few months old.
Can someone give me a clue as to correcting this issue please?

Thanks

[Dx4win] Call Sign Lookup (F3) EXT Data . FIXED

2011-11-10 Thread Dave Weiss
Hello All:

Many thanks to Kostas SV1DPI the fix has been provided.

He recommended changing both lookup strings to the following: *
HTTP://WWW.QRZ.COM/db/*

This works! Make sure that no other data sources are selected in Data
source parameters.

*Many thanks to Kostas Stamatis, SV1DPI*

[Dx4win] Radio time outs with DX4WIN, LP_Bridge, K3 win XP PRO

2011-07-18 Thread Dave Weiss
Hi Gang:

I am running a K3, DX4win 8.05, LP Bridge and a K3 from Elecraft.
Approximately 2-3 times per hour I get a radio time out message from
DX4WIN. I have to restart (START RADIO) again to accept entries. I have a
friend with the same setup including computer, WINXP PRO SP3 and K3; he has
the same issue. The computer is an E5300, INTEL @2.6 GHz with 3.49GB Ram.

My gut tells me the issue is with LP_Bridge but that is a guess at the
moment. I did not have this issue with my IC 756Pro 3. Running com 1 at
38.400 per the K3 spec.

Has anyone out there experienced this problem and come up with a solution?

[Dx4win] What causes illogical confirmations in normal methods and LoTW?

2011-03-10 Thread Dave Weiss
Hello Group:

I am seeing QSO's get confirmed in both normal (Method) and LoTW where I
have not marked them confirmed. I know of one other user who is
experiencing the same issue. Is there some preference setting that we can
change to eliminate this problem?

We are certain that we are not marking these QSO's confirmed. The effect of
this is to mark the QSO's confirmed where they are proven not to be and that
obviously fouls our respective databases.

Any thoughts to correct this issue would be appreciated.

[Dx4win] Dx4WIN v8.03 loss of RIG control

2010-01-18 Thread Dave Weiss
 Hi Group:

 Rig 756Pro3, Windows XP

Using DX4Win 8.03 recently reloaded because of the following problem:

I seem to have lost Rig Control. I can no longer click on a spot and have
the Rig change band, frequency and mode. I can interact with the software
on the screen and all seems normal.

I suspect that I have a Port driver issue because during the reload I saw
reference to a lack of or missing port driver message. I just don't know
what to do about it. If I return to 8.02 version, all works fine and
other
programs that use Com 1 2 work fine also. * Note: Com 1 is RIG control
(does not work)*. *Com2 is rotor control which does work.*

I think that this FAQ message is pointing to the fix. If this is the
fix,
what do I do with the information? Where do I put the string?

 for Win/NT/2000/XP:

 WinNT\System32\Divers\Vichw11.
sys

   Thanks for your help.

[Dx4win] Worked countries show in yellow (after they have been worked previously)??

2008-12-01 Thread Dave Weiss
Hello:

I am using DX4W v.7.03.16 since may of 2007 and have recently seen spots
with 9A and ET show in yellow as if they had never been worked. The fact is
that in both cases, I have had at least one contact on 20 Meters from each
country. I do not know why they are showing yellow. My country file is
dated 07-Oct-2008. The 9A that I have worked and confirmed is 9A5MT and
the ET(s) I have worked are ET3SID and ET3AA. (Not yet confirmed). The
issue has been intermittent.

These calls come up as a P1 in yellow when they have previously been worked.

Can someone help with this issue please? Am I missing something?

Thanks 73

[Dx4win] Automatic call sign lookup on QRZ, Question

2008-02-17 Thread Dave Weiss
I have implemented this feature in DX4Win and it works nicely with one
exception. It seems that the QRZ windows stack up on my PC (XP Pro) (I have
a second screen) and eventually, the system comes to an out of memory state
where the mouse pointer does not follow movements of the mouse.

Question is: How can I get the QRZ window to close after a lookup so that
the windows do not stack up? Any experience out there with this one please.

I've been doing the same as John, using a new group number for each
contest. I wasn't thinking of running out as up to this thread I
thought I could go to 999. One nice thing is that your labels will
print with the contest name this way as Jim said.

Hi All;

I maybe missed the point, but I really wonder what you guys are doing to
even think about running out of Group numbers.

I don't understand anyone's need really to group by year or by contest;
since you would still need to do a search operation (F8) to filter by
Group. You might as well do a search by date in that case. I use
Groups in my main log to differentiate from G3NKC and G3NKC/P, and I
think I set up GQ3NKC - so call sign variants.

For my GD contest operations, I currently hold separate logs for GD0EMG,
MD6V, and MD4K; even though I have been thinking about the merits of
merging those logs (might be nice to see a complete DXCC achievement,
for instance); but I often think these would be outweighed by the
overhead when doing the QSLling chores (when someone requests a card, I
normally QSL all QSO's with our particular contest call. I might end up
selecting QSL's for all call's; meaning I have 3 labels that would have
to go on 3 cards). ON balance I think those logs will stay separate.

Hi Bill,
I'm not sure how you allocate your group numbers. I started giving a
number to every contest, IE CQ WPX CW,2005,2006,2007 ETC and could see I
would fast run out of numbers. On a suggestion from a local user I now
only have one number for each contest and use the same number each year.
Its a simple matter to filter by year or mode as and when you require.
This has reduced my groups considerably.

Cheers

Group numbers is a nice feature and I use it a lot. I just wish we were
allowed more than 254 group numbers. At my present rate I will have all
254 numbers used by CQ WPX CW this year. When that happens I will have
to look at other options to accomplish this or look at different
software that will do what I want.

What about using group numbers - assign a different group to each
