Re: [Dx4win] Converting an ADIF Field?

2009-04-09 Thread Gary McConville

I use a homebrew converter program that I threw together in Visual Basic that
lets me customize fields. Works great from Writelog adif output. It's a work
in progress, if anyone wants to play around with it...

 Eric,

 From my experiments:
comments:nn imports into Notes for this
 QSO
notes:nn imports into Notes for this callsign
 field

How did I test this? I create a monthly ADIF extract from
 DX4Win to track my
CQ Marathon score (using AD1C's nice marathon.exe
 utility). In that extract
the Notes for Callsign are represented with
 notes:nn. I opened a test log
and imported those records into DX4Win. The Names {which
 are in Notes for
 Callsign} imported properly.

Supposed to work. Maybe it's something about the demo program. Or
go into Preferences and change the user mode to Expert.

3) Tried importing my 105K QSO file via ADIF import. Ended up with
over 4000 exceptions. DXCC totals per band and per mode totals
didn't match by a lot. Trying to resolve and fix these differences
seems like an impossible task. Having notes of the difference
associated with each QSO instead on in a file doesn't help. Any suggestions?

You can do an F8 search in Notes for this QSO field for the word Error.

The DX4WIN call/prefix/country database is fairly high-quality. I've
been working on improving it for almost 3 years now. The most recent
file is at:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/

-- just follow the links. You could be encountering errors during
import that may not be related to the country file, i.e. serial
numbers in the RST fields.

Use F8 as described to give yourself a flavor of the kinds of
problems you're hitting. I can work with you one-on-one to help
resolve most if not all of these import problems.

4) Any way to SH/DX rather than bringing up the PACKET screen? Was
hoping command lines would be available on spot display screen.

No, commands can only be entered into the Packet Window.

7) Going to have to look through the filters section stuff a lot. I
really want the capability to search through the logbook file
setting particular defined bands, modes and frequencies and generate
a screen or file of the QSO's that match. I suppose that is
possible. Don't quickly see how.

F8 search and specify the band and mode. Then Window - Logbook will
bring up those QSOs selected. You can right-click on the Logbook
window and invoke the Report Editor to arrange the data any way you like.

8) Any way to easily edit the country library within DX4WIN to
quickly fix things like K6H is Hawaii rather than US? Sure one can
change it for a particular QSO but how about the fix working for
subsequent ones?

Just log the QSO with the correct date/time/prefix and it will be
added to the country file automatically. I'll make a note to fix
this call in the next release of the country files.

10) What is update policy? I see costs associated in going from one
version to another but nothing mentioned about within version updates.

No charge when staying within a minor version (7.01 to 7.02) but
nominal charge for a major version upgrade.

Based on the above, the minimum income for the organization,

than upon receipt of a QSL card accepted the choice to submit for

 logging
 on DX4WIN.

If I run countries listing (All modes All bands) I get a report
 showing
contacts worked (M S) by Mode/Band and Prefix. However, many of the
Prefix's are blank along the row (mode band). Do these blank rows
indicate Prefix's where I have received a QSL card and thus accepted
(F2) submission for what ever award? So if I count all the prefixes
 in
this report this would give me total number DXCC entities that I have
worked (332 in this case)? Or just over 200 if I don't count blank
 rows?

Hello

I am using DX4WIN, ver 6.03 and have never had a problem. Recently, I
attempted to convert 6800 qsos that were made in CT 10.XXX. I went to the ct
reflector and downloaded C2A that was updated to the May 2004 version. The
conversion seemed to go smoothely until I noticed that only 2700 qsos were
changed...no errors. I attempted this several times without any change. I
then converted the bin file to ct9 and used the c2a again. Not much
improvement. When I used an older version of C2A, I got 5700 qsos converted
to ADIF formatthe last 6 hours were not there. I have done many ADIF
conversions before and have never had this problem. In fact, I converted 3
smaller logs (about 600 qsos) and they went perfectly into ADIF an I was
able to put them into my database, merge them, etc. Has anyone else had this
problem with a very large file? Is there a fix?

[Dx4win] QSL sent info

2003-03-27 Thread Gary McConville
Great Idea Jim,

I second this one...

What about changing the QSL date to the current date
 once the QSO is
*confirmed*, i.e. via F2 key? This way I would know
 when I received the
card, since I no longer care when I sent it.
 Opinions anyone?

 Don,

It is all there in 5.03 already.

 1. File preferences | QSO | Searching | QSO Date:
 select 'Range'

 2. In QSO Window: F8 to start a search

 3. Select 80M in the band

 4. Select N for confirmed

 5. Select 01/01/1950 or something for QSL date
 (indicates card has been sent)

 6. Enter 01/01/2000 in the date and press Enter

Because of step 1, you get a prompt for the ending
 date; enter 01/01/2003

If the logbook window is open, you will see a list
 of all QSOs matching your criteria;
PgUp and PgDn in the QSO Window will show you the
 different QSOs.

There is a lot more you can do with searching; read
the on-line help and the user's guide
about filters, selections. Also check Mailed cutoff
and worked cutoff in File | Preferences | Personal.

 Paul,
I was wondering if you got my post on providing
 additional search feature
 for DX4WIN?
Being able to use the attributes in the country
 window W,M,C,S,and checked?
Perhaps they could be included as options in the
 reports generator in the
Summary Report. The ability to search a
 predetermined time frame. Example:
Search for QSOs on 80 meters mailed but not
 confirmed from 1/1/00 to 1/1/03.

[Dx4win] Additional Search Features

2003-01-25 Thread Gary McConville
Steve,

I too am just a casual contester but would like a few
cabrillo formats supported that could be modified in
word/text format for the other contest parameters.
DX4WIN32 fills all my logging requirements EXCEPT for
the missing cabrillo output. Thanks for the
clarification, Steve.

Thanks for your clarification, Steve. Seems that
 what should be understood
is that when I, as a DXer, participate in a contest,
 I'd just like to send
in my log with as minimal fuss as possible. I've
 won contests for my
section/state with as few as 5 QSOs. That's pretty
 casual. Yup - they are
contest specific. Sure would be nice if there was
 the option to have at
least a few major contests supported. My 2
 centsYMMV.

 Hello all,

You fellows need to understand that 'casual
 contesting' is geared toward
the DX'er who is in a contest for new band and
 mode countries, with the
focus on DX'ing, not contesting. It has nothing
 to do with contesting
for the intent of contesting, at what ever level,
 but solely in support
 of the DX'er.

Also, Cabrillo is not a 'one size fits all' thing.
  It is a contest
 specific format. Go to

http://www.kkn.net/~trey/cabrillo/qso-template.html
 and you will see what
I am saying. At a minimum, there are 8 different
 formats. Although the
date, time, mode, band info is stable, the rest of
 it is all over the
place, depending upon the contest. It may be a
 different story if it was
one specific file format, such as ADIF. But, even
 then, time permitting.

If you need contest support from the contest
 perspective, get a program
that's main purpose is contesting. I understand
 there are even one or
two good ones which are freeware, which may be
 worth looking into.

When I'm contesting, I use Writelog.
