[Dx4win] GREAT CIRCLE BEARINGS

2011-11-06 Thread NN3V_6
Is there a way to verify the great circle bearings (azimuths) reported by
DX4WIN.

Over the past month, the reported bearings I get when entering a QSO have
started appearing very erratic. Sometimes they are "on the mark", and other
times they seem to be 180 degrees in error.

Anything in particular that may have gone wrong?

I verified the station parameters I entered in the Preferences, and they are
correct.

I am running V8.05

[Dx4win] QSO Window Data

2012-08-02 Thread NN3V_6
I am beginning to use the DX4WIN QSO window for more than just entering QSO
info as I have done for many years.

Am trying to make better use of the info available in the bottom row of QSO
window. Specifically, the fields indicating awards (DXCC, WAZ, etc).

Mine are all blank.

How do those get populated, and caused to appear with info in the QSO
window?

I presume info that is compiled in the DX4WIN data base should automatically
appear (such as identifying that a particular entity has been worked, and
has been recorded as worked on LOTW).

Also, what is the meaning of the fields "worked cutoff" and "mailed cutoff"
in the preferences window?

I am using Version 8.05

I am sure these questions have been asked before, but I can not find any
tutorial info anywhere. My apology to those who find this a dumb question.

[Dx4win] BUG or My Error?

2012-09-09 Thread NN3V_6
I'm running DX4WIN V8.05 with Yaesu FT-5000.

Works as expected, except for an anomaly I just noticed.

DX4WIN tracks all the radio's modes (CW, SSB, etc) correctly EXCEPT when
operating PKT mode.

If the radio is placed in PKT LSB, DX4WIN enters PSK-31 as the mode. I can
accept that, as there is no difference in awards or tracking since PSK and
PKT are "digital modes".

But if the radio is shifted to PKTUSB, DX4WIN changes the mode to SSB. That
does not compute.

What am I missing?

Jim,

This is not a bug 100% sure of it and
the FT5000.rig file is also correct (We made it with my ftdx5000 radios)
but for the moment the current DX4WIN version can not handle
the letter A,B,C (C = PKTUSB) for MODE selection only numbers work
like 8=PKTLSB.
This will be only possible with a future release

Because there may be a bug in DX4WIN. As I said, each Yaesu radio has its
own protocol. Unless someone can give/loan Paul an FT-5000 to develop with,
or debug interactively with him in front of your own radio, what he
implements in DX4WIN will just be a best guess (i.e.
untested). If you've ever read any of the radio protocol specs, it's NOT
straightforward to implement them in software.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import Oddity?

2012-11-04 Thread NN3V_6
I've been using DX4WIN for many years. Currently using Version 8.05 under
Windows 7 Home Premium.

No operational problems. But an oddity.

I recently decided to fool around with JT-65. Just to say I had yet another
digital mode to play with.

I successfully installed and am using the plain vanilla JT-65HF Version
1.0.7 software. Works great. The software includes a simple logging program
that stores all the pertinent JT-65 QSO info, and also allows exporting the
log data as an ADIF file.

When I try to import the JT-65HF software generated ADIF data into DX4WIN,
DX4WIN delivers an error message indicating the file can not be imported.

However, I also use Ham Radio Deluxe for some digital modes. I am successful
in using the HRD software to import the same JT-65HF software generated ADIF
data into HRD.

Then, I am successful in exporting the JT-65HF QSO log data from HRD, in
ADIF format, into DX4WIN.

Anyone have an idea why that process is not successful when transferring
ADIF log data from JT-65HF directly into DX4WIN?

[Dx4win] QSO Look Up anomaly

2012-11-29 Thread NN3V_6
I am running DX4WIN V8.05 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

Recently, an anomaly has shown up.

When I search for past QSOs using F8, inconsistent look-up results show up.

I normally have the desktop simultaneously showing the logbook window, and
the "Same Callsign" window.

When I press F8 to enter a call sign for look up, the "logbook sorted by
date" window will show one result, and the "Same Callsign" window will show
a different result, simultaneously.

For example, I was looking for past QSOs with KD3WK who sent me a paper QSL
card.

The "Same Call Sign" window incorrectly returned a QSO I had with KD3DK. The
window showed only this particular QSO.

But in the "Logbook sorted by Date" I found the QSO I had with KD3WK
(correct), and the report of the QSO I had with KD3DK that was showing in
the "Same Call Sign" window.

Note the slight difference in the call sign letters.

This is happening with many station call signs.

Any ideas?

There are four different kinds of callsign matches. It sounds like
you have "Fuzzy" selected in your preferences.

Having said that, if your QSO window is showing a particular call as
the result of a search, that same call/QSO should be highlighted in
both the Same Call and the Logbook windows. If it is not, then
something is wrong.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Digest, Vol 104, Issue 23

2012-12-19 Thread NN3V_6
I have the same issue, and find the recommendation helpful, as it confirms
what I do.

However, I caution that at least in my experience, the QUOTE Radio | Ignore
Mode in real-time UNQUOTE has to be manually set for each QSO.

After logging a QSO, at least my set-up reverts to the current mode (USB).

That is a pain if you are running a series of QSOs.

When operating PSK-31, the radio is in USB. DX4WIN correctly reads the
frequency and the mode of my Kenwood TS-850 as being in "SSB." As a
consequence of being in SSB, DX4WIN won't accept a 3-digit signal report in
the QSO window.

Is there a way to solve or work around this?

Thanks,

Ed,

In the radio menu: Radio | Ignore Mode in real-time

This will allow you to PSK31 as the mode for the QSO and enter a 3 digit
report.
