Re: [Dx4win] W3LL DX4WIN Will Not Start
I had another issue with DX4WIN not starting: The DX4WIN update was successfully made yesterday. Today after a computer reboot and attempted restart of DX4WIN the below message popped up. "Failed reading The Country File". The file that failed was the 14 February Country.dat file. As Administrator it was replaced with the 01 February country.dat file. Followed the same procedure as reported above to fix the problem. Please, how to prevent this from happening again? 73, Bud W3LL w...@arrl.net On Fri, Feb 4, 2022 at 3:24 PM Bud Governale wrote: > Here's how the country.dat issue was resolved. > > As the Administrator, the country.dat file was removed from the DX4WIN > Save folder. > As non Administrator a 01 February 2022 country.dat file was copied into > the DX4WIN Save folder. > > This different country.dat file allowed DX4WIN to start normally with no > issue. > > I suspect during the DX4WIN "Check For Updates" process the country.dat > file was downloaded and installed in DX4WIN as a protected file. Re: [Dx4win] W3LL DX4WIN Will Not Start
Bud, Your country file was removed by a virus checker; You likely have an older copy in your Backups sub-directory. Copy the file country.dat to the Save sub-directory. Tell the virus checker to ignore the DX4WIN directory Start DX4WIN Do Help | Check for Updates to get the latest files. --Paul On Fri, Feb 4, 2022 at 11:30 AM Bud Governale wrote: > W3LL DX4WIN Will Not Start > DX4WIN > Bud Governale > Thu, Jul 22, 2021, 9:07 PM > to DX4WIN, bcc: me > When trying to start DX4WIN I get an Error Message saying; > "Failed reading The Country File". > > When I hit OK to the above error message I get another window that says > "dx4win.exe" > An Error Occurred In The Application. > > Click on the bug report. > The Bug Report says Exception Number 1 > Exception Class EAccessViolation > Exception Message: "Access violation at address 00404CA6 in module > "dx4win". Re: [Dx4win] W3LL DX4WIN Will Not Start
Bud, I have had the same problem here on just one of my two computers that have DX4WIN installed. The solution is to replace the "country.dat" file in the save directory. Somehow it gets deleted on occasion on just one of my desktops but never the other one. Since it has happened about 5 times, I always keep a backup copy of that current file elsewhere to copy back to the save directory. No need to reinstall the whole program. Look in the 'backups' sub directory for a copy of the country.dat file (and other files).
