Hi,
I've noticed that group messages are going straight to the spam folder.
Maybe something got blocked without me realizing it. I'm resending the
message to see if anyone can help me resolve my problem.

Hi.
After being a few days of travel, when I return home, the first thing I do
is update the databases with DX4Win Data Updater version 9.6.
After waiting more time than other occasions, at the end of updating the
databases and starting in Program DX4win see 8.05, I give me the following
errors:

*An exception occurred!Bad key value = at line 43161
(C:\dx4win_src\fcustawd.pas, line 189)*

*An exception accurred!Access violation at address 0063FE4C in module
'dx4win.exe'. Read of address * *A fatal error occured reading the
logfile.*

Could anyone tell me, where does this error come from and how to solve it?

Thank you anticipated to all.

Hi Brad,

Did you check for updates before you tried to open your log ?
If not do that 1st

If yes then do the following

Send your log(s) to a friend
That has the latest DX4WIN version running and ask him
To export your log (adif) in a previous version, for example 8
With this file it will import all again.

Hello all,

I thought that I had goofed up another program (not DX4WIN) and restored my
Windows 10 Pro computer to an earlier date. After doing this, I found that
DX4WIN no longer worked.

In the past, when Microsoft would update my computer, DX4WIN would not run,
so I would uninstall the program, re-install it and my two log files would
be in the new installation.

Now I find that I cannot open either logbook. I get an error message, saying
"ERROR: This logfile requires a later version (P)" and there is a box to
click "OK"

Any ideas on what I can do to take care of this problem? Thank you!

Hello Brad,

When you re-install dx4win, it uses an older version (I forget the exact
version number, but it's 9.0.3.something). Do Help > Check for Updates and
the program will update itself to v 9.0.9.1259, which is the current
version. (guess how I know this???)

Re: [Dx4win] error messages upon Saving Data

2019-02-12 Thread kostas sv1dpi
I have noticed problems like this when I use dropbox or memory card in
my laptop. Also same kind of problems occur when I moved dx4win from his
installation directory to my memory card. It seems that dx4win expects a
quick answer from the computer and that gives a mistake. If you try to
continue it continues normally.

You don't say which version of DX4WIN.If it's 9.0x, it should prompt
you to mail a bug report. Do that.

Close the program and check that the file save\country.dat is present. I have
seen multiple reports of this file disappearing. I speculate that this is due
to an overzealous virus checker. You likely have a backup copy in the backup
sub-directory.
Also check if you use a secondary backup that is on a network drive or USB
stick. These connections often go away and come back again.

Re: [Dx4win] Error message

2018-07-21 Thread Joe Stepansky
One interesting thing is that after pressing F9 the date field is blank, the
time is 00:00 (which it isn't right now), the county field shows
Fqso_cntyStrIx, Custom Award shows Fqso_award and Custom award value shows
Fqso_award_value. Zone is 0. Not sure if that helps.

Re: [Dx4win] Error in Log File after computer crash

2018-06-04 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Ernie,

If you haven't done so already, copy .~XL to .DXL.
The copy .DXL to another place or directory (so you'll have 2
copies of the .DXL)
Then try to open .DXL.

Do you have another PC (that didn't crash) that you could move the .DXL file
(that is having issues) to and open it with DX4WIN?

If you do and it works, that indicates it is NOT your log file that is
clobbered but some other file(s) that DX4WIN uses when starting up.

Oh, I just noticed the last 2 words in the error message: invalid filename
>From the time that you start DX4WIN to when you get the error, do you have a
>chance to do anything (select the log to open)? If you don't then it sounds
>like the "name of the last opened log file" that is remembered by DX4WIN got

Hope that helps.

Having a fatal error on restarting DX4WIN after my Win10 computer
crashed. Some files probably got corrupted, any ideas where to start?
Using copies of my backups didn't work either.

The error report at the bottom says exception 1, EInOutError, Invalid
filename.

When I hit "OK" on the offered button, I am greeted with another message

Those error messages would indicate the comm port you have chosen in
Preferences>Radio is not correct or available. Do you have the program
linked to your radio? Do you have it configured correctly for the comm port
for your radio?

Re: [Dx4win] Error code when starting dx4win 9.04

2018-04-19 Thread Rick Murphy
The "TVicHW32.dll" file is part of the DX4WIN install - it should be in the
same directory as your dx4win.exe file.
It's apparently used for port access (com port, etc.) for rig control. Have
you installed all of the DX4WIN program files into whatever directory
you're using to run DX4WIN?
You'll get this error if you move just the dx4win.exe file somewhere
outside of the "dx4w901" directory tree.

There is one. If you go to File -> Awards, in the DXCC tab, select CW
under Mode Group, then delete the Jan 1, 1975 date and save. That should
do it.

Re: [Dx4win] Error in DXCC report - version 8.05

2016-12-13 Thread OZ0J Joe
Thanks to both Mike and Jerry for the fine explanation. I am sure that both
Leif and I can live with that.

However, in Denmark Danish DX Club has this special list – see
http://ddxg.dk/dxbandcountry_september2016.htm

The text is in Danish but I will explain a little bit:

The numbers below each band are worked and in () confirmed DXCCs. We do not use
the DXCC rules about the CW date, so Leif was a little but surprised when he
lost some DXCCs in CW mode when he upgraded to version 8.05. Leif wanted to
upgrade to version 8, because he want register the 60 M QSOs in DX4WIN instead
of paper log.

I can’t see a workaround to count the DXCCs worked in CW mode no matter the QSO
date with DX4WIN version 8. I guess that Leif has to calculate the CW QSOs in
version 5 – or as I have suggested – work the missing CW QSOs again.

I think Mike gave an excellent explanation. The following comes from the DXCC
Rules on the ARRL website:

c) CW: Contacts must be made using CW since January 1, 1975. Confirmations for
cross-mode contacts for this award must be dated September 30, 1981, or
earlier. CW contacts dated December 31, 1974, or before, are credited as Mixed
mode.

The CW DXCC award does not count individual bands. It only counts the
number of countries (entities) starting on 1 Jan 1975 and it doesn't matter
what band, or how many bands you have.

I hoe this makes sense to you, and to Leif. If not, perhaps someone else

Hi

I earlier got the information that CW QSOs before 1 January 1975 do not
count for DXCC. Since that I have tried to help my friend OZ1LO to find out,
whatever there is an error in the DXCC report in DX4WIN version 8.05.

I have created a log with 2 QSOs on 80 M. Both QSOs are with CW mode and one
QSO is BEFORE 1 January 1975 and one AFTER.

When I run the DXCC report (Report -> DXCC) I get this result:

MIXED 2
CW 1
80 M 2

Even when I run the DXCC report with these settings:

DXCC summary or listing
Mode = CW
Band = 80M

I still get:

MIXED 2
CW 1
80 M 2

Why do I not only get the CW DXCC awarded QSOs here?

Pictures of the report settings and result can be found at
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/dx4win-oz1lo.pdf

How do I (or OZ1LO) get a report that ONLY show the valid CW DXCCs on each
bands? Or is that not possible?

Not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish but, if all you want
to see are CW QSOs then you need to change the "All Modes" setting to
"CW". Otherwise, you should be good to go.

Re: [Dx4win] Error

2015-08-15 Thread Alan Zack
After going back and taking a second look I discovered the reason I could
not make any changes to my fonts, ext data, etc, was that DX4WIN had
reverted back to the REGULAR user level. I was able to change it from
REGULAR to EXPERT level and then was able to adjust back to my normal
settings. When I changed the font to where I had it and the scale factor
back to 100 the main logging window came back to the larger size I had
before so I can see it without having to have my nose to the screen.

I do not know how or why this happened but all seems well again.

I saved this email for my info in case it ever happened to me. IT DID happen
to me today.

DX4WIN has been working FB with no problems. I have not done anything to
change its configuration. I used Jim's DATA UPDATER program about a month
ago to bring everything up to date (his latest revision).

Last night I closed DX4WIN normally and shut off the PC. This morning on
starting up the PC and opening DX4WIN normally, I had the same problem as
Wayne did below:
In my situation, the main window opened normally but the font was different.
Normally when I open DX4WIN my Map, Same Call, Country, and IOTA sub windows
open with the program. Today they did not open. When I try to open them
using the WINDOW drop down menu I get the error message. ERROR: An
exception has occurred. Fixed Column Count must be less than column count.
In addition, all my saved info in the PREFERENCE window such as my address,
my user level, my font settings, ext data, etc. was gone.

So as Jim suggested below I exited DX4WIN, went to my SAVE file, found the
DX4WIN.CFG file and renamed it xDX4WIN.CFG, and opened DX4WIN again.
Now I can open the MAP, SAME CALL, COUNTRY, IOTA widows OK BUT I still do
not have the settings in my PREFERENCE window as before.
BUT my main concern is my MAIN LOGGING WIDOW has shrunk. I use a 21-inch
monitor. My main log window before was 6 1/2 in by 5 1/2 in. Now it is 5 1/4
by 4 1/4 inches. I have to lean way forward to read it. Also in the
PREFERENCE/SCREEN window, I cannot change the FONT style or size. The scale
factor is stuck at 80. I want to change it to 100 but it will not change.

In my SAVE file there is a file named DX4WIN CONFIGURATION SETTINGS. When I
click on it, it opens with WORDPAD. I see all my preference data, such as my
address, fonts, ext data, etc, in this file. Why can't DX4WIN find this file
when it opens? Is that my problem?

Was some file saved in the wrong place? My PC uses WIN 8.1. Sometimes it
wants to save docs I am using to some place named ONE DRIVE. I have checked
there but there are no DX4WIN files there.

I do not know what happened. I also have DX4WIN installed on a laptop that
is still working OK. I will update my K7ACZ.DXL file and I will use it for
logging until I figure out what is wrong. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

TIA & 73,
Alan, K7ACZ

Hi Wayne,

Please try this:

Exit DX4WIN

Rename SAVE\DX4WIN.CFG to something else

Start DX4WIN. It will create a new configuration file. See if the problem
is still there.

DX4WIN.CFG is your configuration/preferences, it is a binary file that
can not be read by Word.

DX4WIN.INI is a plain-text version of your configuration, which you
create from Preferences by "Write INI File Settings". DX4WIN does not
read this file directly, unless you use "Merge INI file settings" in
Preferences.

Hi Wayne,

Please try this:

Exit DX4WIN

Rename SAVE\DX4WIN.CFG to something else

Start DX4WIN. It will create a new configuration file. See if the problem
is still there.

Hola Isidro

What are the parameters in File -> Preference -> QSO -> Secondary backup
directory ?

What are the parameters of the DXL file? Right click on the DXL file ->
choose properties and remove the 2 marks in the bottom. See also

I have my DXL files in a Dropbox folder instead of the normal folder. I have
no problem with saving the log. I am running Win 8.1.

My friend installed the program running as Administrator, and so he does

The error message does not refer to the the secondary backup directory (we
already checked that), but to the main storage (the "save" folder).

Hello. Thanks to all for the replies. Here is further information about my

It sounds like either a file path problem or a User Security Setting
problem with Windows 8.

Make sure your friend is running the program as Administrator, with full
privileges to create/change files and folders.

My friend installed the program running as Administrator, and so he does

The error message does not refer to the the secondary backup directory (we

Create a directory such as C:/Ham Programs and install DX4Win (and all
other ham software) there.

This is a bit of a guess, but go into File->Preferences and then select

The 2 minute timing sounds right, that's the default for that file to be
written.

Re: [Dx4win] ERROR IN E-QSL REPORT

2013-07-04 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Hi Frank,

The .notfound file is created by DX4WIN based on the status of the
confirmation
ADIF file you downloaded from eQSL (or LoTW). This ADIF file contains a bad
callsign
as can be seen in the ADIF record below.
YU2V EX YU7KO201302181914
80MSSB59
YE

This line is translated in the .notfound file as

X YU2V EX YU7K 18-Feb-2013 19:14 80mSSB 0

Not sure which logging program you used to upload the data, because DX4WIN
would
not allow a callsign field containing a blank character. Also surprised
that eQSL
accepted such a callsign. You can delete this line in the .notfound file
using notepad.

I will try to make the .notfound viewer more robust!

Hugh, what are you doing EXACTLY? I tried it and it worked for me:

File | Databases | Manager Addresses

I put AD1C in the Manager field, then Edit | Add Address

I typed in the address (4 lines maximum) then File | Save Changes and Exit

ALT-S doesn't enter into the picture, that's for saving your log.

Re: [Dx4win] Error after import of CQWW log

2010-11-01 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
This is the exact same message I sent to Kostas this morning:

1. The CQWW Committee insists that UA9S, UA9T and UA9W are in CQ Zone
16, regardless of what the DX operator sends. DX4WIN has all these as
Zone 17, because that's what the DX usually sends. There will be no
changes in this area.

2. DX4WIN does *NOT* have CQ zone exceptions for USA callsigns. It
only has exceptions when a KH6, KL7, etc. call is used from the
lower-48 states (in other words, a COUNTRY exception). When you fill
in the STATE field for a USA QSO, then DX4WIN will automatically put
in the correct zone. So set K5ZD=MA, N2IC=NM and K9RS=PA and the
zones will match your contest log.

p.s. you did not work VC2A, you worked VC3A.

Re: [Dx4win] Error with Country Add

2010-10-14 Thread ALAN ZACK
I'm not sure what you mean by MANUAL MODE?
I just worked TO3GA. When I entered his call into DX4WIN the country and
prefix boxes were blank.

According to the ICPO Bulletin:
13/10/2010: Andreas, DL3GA will be active from Ducos, island of Martinique
(IOTA NA-107, DIFO FM-001, WLOTA 1041, DDFM 97) from 13-20 October 2010,
using the callsign TO3GA. He will also participate in the Worked All Germany
(WAG) Contest. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [FM5BH]

So I just typed FM into the PREFIX box and Martinique filled the country
box. Seems all is OK. Any comments?

my screen: "Access viouslation at address 00645660 in module dx4win.exe.
Read of address 0008." I can't use the log as it has basically shut me
out and won't let me add QSO's or do a file close.  I think I followed the
instructions for Add Country. Yes, I do have a backup. Help would be
appreciated. Tnx Eli, N6PF

2010-09-15 Thread Dave Sharred
Well Jo, I did wonder when it failed , from your 1st note! Kostas was referring
only to start up.

Does it only fail when you TX; in which case it could be RF that is causing the
interface to fail ? If so, you may need to filter/screen your leads?

Maybe ferrites or decoupling capacitors?

The other thing I have seen is failure when the PC is idle for a long time;
parts of your PC may go to sleep when not in use; if you think it could be this
then you would need to check your power save options. This happened on my
older XP PC.

programme is running. Booting up process is always going fine.
I never had problems whatsoever when using the software in my older
laptop which its OS was Windows XP.

Re: [Dx4win] Error messages

2010-09-15 Thread Dave Sharred
To be clear in Jo's initial email; are you talking about start up of DX4Win or
when the program is running?

If you are talking at start up; I have seen the same sort of behaviour on 2
PC's (Win XP and WIN7).

IN the past (XP, older PC, earlier DX4Win) I also concluded that the driver was
not installed correctly on a newly booted PC.

I still see this sometimes on my new WIN 7 laptop.  I will install the driver
at start up, which I think will provide the answer; later today.

(BTW - I am using MicroHam USBII as my rig interface)

I also have noticed this but occasionally. I believe that usb to serial

wait for a while or open another program first, there will not be a problem.

It seems you have some mistake in your county file.
I would suggest to update to 803. I think that 803 will not crash and you

Yeah, it does look a little funny (but I didn't get any list index

I had the same problem.

Go to Preferences->Rep/Lab and set the Default Report Format to Logbook.

I noticed there also appear to be two left-over
test report formats--1010 Test and Test2--that I don't know how to get rid of.

I ran into a similar problem. I'm not sure what I did wrong... but the
settings on the Reports tab in preferences was messed up when I copied
the save directory. Probably some changes in the .cfg file.

I fixed it by merging the DX4Win.ini file from 8.01.

Roger,

I added a note to the download page; you need to get an update from
MicroSoft.
(Refresh the page, otherwise you may see the old version)

Re: [Dx4win] ERROR MESSAGE WITH 'BRAG TEXT FILE'

2009-06-15 Thread Art - W6KY

I would also check your SAVE directory. You show it as all caps.
It is installed as lower case /save ...
Same with PROGRAM FILES ...
Alo as mentioned, I doubt if the extension for your brag
tape is .text , probable saved as .txtor .doc

Re: [Dx4win] ERROR MESSAGE WITH 'BRAG TEXT FILE'

2009-06-15 Thread Mel
Your message text has 2 typos? it should read:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\dx4w701\SAVE\brag.txt"
Note the colon and the extension...

is it possible that you have made a mistake with the file extension?

Another possibility is if your folder options normally hide the
extensions for known file types... if you see brag.txt in the directory
listings it might actually be brag.txt.txt

Hi Bill,
Glad to help you out,

Another trick I use when testing new programs here is that I have
Printkey2000 installed on all my computers, In case I cant exit
A program Or anything else occurs I make a printscreen of the what
I need and save it has a picture, in your case it could have been
the recent changes in your log

Thanks Guy,

The CW Keyer was still running and was the cause of the error. Must remember
to stop radio and stop Winkeyer before exiting just in case next time I
don't use them. Then there are no issues.

Biggest hassle is when this problem occurs I also can not save changes to
the log.

Thanks again,

Bill,

This is probably a USB problem, same error occurs when using USB - Winkey
and for some unknown WINDOWS reason the serialport number has changed or the
device has been removed or shut off
B4 DX4WIN is closed.

Re: [Dx4win] Error Message

2009-03-23 Thread Mel Martin
I get this error if the radio COM port interfaces are not defined
correctly or if I try to open DX4Win if another program has the Winkey
interface open. It's definitely related to COM port errors.

Paul should try to trap and process this error gracefully if possible.

I run DX4WIN almost 24/7 with no radio connected. I have never seen
this problem.

Currently running 7.07.02 with Windows XP Pro.

You might try updating to see if the problem goes away.

See ON4AOI's page for information on using DX4WIN on Vista -
http://users.skynet.be/ON4AOI/dx4win.shtml
Vista doesn't allow normal users to write to anything in c:\Program
Files\ so you'll probably need to change the DX4WIN shortcut to run it
as an administrator.

T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U-!

I think there was a printer defined, but things have been moved around on my
network. The path was actually correct, but things had been moved, then put
back - After I navigated DX4WIN's printer selection through the network to
the correct place, it now works, INCLUDING LABEL PREVIEW!

Gee, I never thought there was an "easy" solution when one of those "blah
