The usual reason to direct mail to the posted rather than the

apply here. ;-). Therefore it should be changed.

A terrific observation.

the great tragedy of e-gold, is of course:

http://interestingsoftware.com/closed-doors.gif

What was once an open, dynamic system that VAUNTED itself on being
open, now offers zero usable information on the system for those
planning ventures around egold users.

One imagines in five years there will be 1 million users and the
stats page will excitingly reveal that . 999,912 of the users
have 0-1 ounces.

Yay.

That will have people rushing to create segment-specific applications!

[e-gold-list] Re: small suggestion

2001-04-12 Thread Ian Green

I agree with the "null" option, but I completely disagree with removing the
ability to pay by other units. The *only* gold price ever reported in the
(broadcast) media is *US Dollars per ounce*, and I do all my spends either
in US dollars, ounces, or an appropriate national currency. I *never* use
grams, as I would have to convert back to either ounces, US Dollars or
Australian Dollars to comprehend the value of what I am spending. It is not
an easy mental arithmetic to convert precisely between grams and ounces.
This would not be necessary if the TV reported gold prices in grams, but
they don't.

True, but IMO the best way to get e-metal at "spot" is to sell something
people want for it. Joe's amazingly-cool http://www.magazinedepot.com/
comes to mind.

In these days of airlines preferring electronic tickets, it's a matter of time
before a travel agent gets "the big clue," and figures out that credit card
payments, when/if they finally clear, are never sold at a profit.

On the gentleman's other question, e-gold is not anonymous cash. Yes,
it's a better and more-private way of paying than credit cards, but e-gold
Ltd. needs accurate, coherent, complete-as-possible contact information
at all times. You can update your contact info in "Account Info." Thanks.

For sure if a user shop around and get the best rates on both out-

One more thing on the spreads. Several exchange services will buy your
e-gold from you at a premium, like www.Goldfingercoin.com , which will pay a
2% premium to buy it back. So the spreads aren't really as high as they
seem.

Claude you are very right,

all the market makers are in currency exchange business and sooner or
later we have to play by the (unwritten) rules of currency exchange -
small spreads (1-2%) when accepting hard money.

Brendan, you might consider our service too - we accept wires and
Australian dollars (along with other 16 national currencies). Our
sell rate is 4% above e-gold spot and our buy rate 1% above e-gold
spot, making our spread only 3%. And if you want to buy bigger
amounts - 10,000 AUD and up, we can give you better rate than 4%.
