L’Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) offre un poste de professeur
régulier, associé à la Chaire de Recherche sur la Forêt Habitée. Le candidat
ou la candidate recherchée doit détenir l’expertise et les compétences requises
pour la mise en œuvre d’un programme de recherche original, principalement
dédié à l’aménagement et à la sylviculture dans la forêt de l’Est-du-Québec.
Cette région est caractérisée par des forêts tempérées nordiques et boréales
méridionales où la foresterie représente un créneau industriel majeur, tant
en forêts publiques qu’en forêts privées. Il ou elle doit en outre déjà
faire preuve d’un registre de publications qui le ou la rend éligible aux
programmes de soutien financier des principaux organismes subventionnaires
du Québec et du Canada. Cette personne contribuera à compléter les
expertises actuellement en place et à consolider l’effort de recherche déjà
réalisée par l’équipe de l’UQAR et ses partenaires sur les forêts
régionales, notamment en arrimant son programme de recherche sur les besoins
exprimés dans le Plan régional de développement intégré des ressources et du
territoire préparé par la Conférence Régionale des Élues du
Bas-Saint-Laurent. Cette personne aura également à contribuer aux programmes
de formation des trois cycles universitaires dans l’un ou l’autre des
domaines suivants : biologie, géographie, environnement ou développement
régional

Title:
Tenure Track Faculty Position in Biology – (Forest management and
Sylviculture)

Functions: The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography (BCG) at
the *Université
du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) *invites outstanding young scientists to apply
for an appointment in Forest management and Sylviculture associated to
the *Chaire
de Recherche sur la Forêt Habitée de l’UQAR* (http://crfh.uqar.ca/).



Priority will be given to candidates showing strong interests in
establishing novel research projects in close collaboration with researchers
from the department of BCG, and in particular with the Geography section.
The candidate should demonstrate expertise and competences required for
developing an original research program primarily dedicated to forest
management and sylviculture in the forests of south-eastern Québec. This
region is characterized by northern hardwood and southern boreal forests
where forestry is a leading industry in the public and in the private
forests as well. The candidate should have a strong publication records that
make him-her eligible to the main sources of research support in Canada and
in Québec. The candidate will complement the expertise already in place and
will contribute to the research effort done by the UQAR team along with her
partners on the regional forests, by linking his-her research program on
goals formulated in the *Plan **régional de développement i**ntégré des **r*
*essources et du **t**erritoire *prepared by the  *Conférence Régionale des
ÉluEs du Bas Saint Laurent**.*  (outlined in:

The candidate will also contribute to teaching at  the B. Sc., M. Sc. and
Ph. D. programs of the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography,
Environmental Sciences or Regional studies. Most of the lingual environment
at work is French.



Level and field of diplomation: Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, Biology or
Forestry.

Research Field:  Forest management and sylviculture.

Professionnel de recherche en programmation, modélisation et bioinformatique

et correcteur de textes scientifiques rédigés en anglais

*Lieu de travail : *UQAM, Montréal



Sommaire de la fonction

   - Assister les membres du CEF sur des problématiques en programmation,
   modélisation et bio-informatique. Correction des manuscrits scientifiques
   des membres du CEF avant soumission à des périodiques scientifiques. Jusqu'à
   40% de son temps est mis à la disponibilité des membres du CEF à l'extérieur
   de Montréal.



Tâches et responsabilités

   - Offre des rencontres de consultation en programmation, modélisation et
   bio-informatique avec tous les étudiants et chercheurs du CEF, en ligne ou
   en personne.
   - Corrige et révise les manuscrits scientifiques des membres du centre
   avant soumission à des périodiques scientifiques.
   - Prépare des formations pratiques ponctuelles sur l'utilisation des
   modèles ou des langages informatiques.



*EXIGENCES*

Diplôme de 2e ou de 3e cycle en sciences naturelles, mathématique,
modélisation ou expérience équivalente.

Citoyenneté canadienne ou immigrant reçu.
  ATOUTS

Capacité de travail autonome et bon esprit d'initiative, bonne flexibilité
des horaires et capacité de se déplacer occasionnellement entre les quatre
pôles géographiques du CEF, fonctionnellement bilingue (français et
anglais), bonne connaissance du milieu forestier québécois et international,
aptitudes à travailler en équipe et avec des étudiants de 2e  et 3e  cycle,
bonne capacité à la rédaction de textes scientifiques en anglais.



*SALAIRE*

Traitement, avantages sociaux et autres droits : selon la convention
collective en vigueur à l'UQAM.



Le candidat retenu sera engagé à temps complet 35h/semaine (temps partiel
minimum 2 jours/semaine possible) jusqu'au 31 mars 2009, sous réserve de
disponibilités des fonds et sous recommandation favorable du comité exécutif
du CEF, les contrats seront renouvelés chaque année (horizon initial de 3
ans).

The keynote speaker is *Vic Adamowicz* , Canada Research Chair
(Environmental Economics), Associate Dean and Professor of forest economics
in the Department of Rural Economy, University of Alberta. He has also
received the Canadian Forestry Scientific Achievement Award from the
Canadian Institute of Forestry in 2004.

Professor Adamowicz will talk about *The Challenge of Biodiversity

Dear David,



Thanks for your message and interest in protecting the world's biodiversity=
!

Rest assured, ALL voices, from all countries are important to us, since
conservation is an international issue. The commitment signed in Rio in 199=
2
by Canada and many other countries implies that at least 12% of every
country be excluded of all industrial activities, thus protected. Let's not
forget that ecological services, cultural heritage and many other advantage=
s
associated to protected areas have no boundaries!



On a more technical aspect, we as manager of this online call to action can
see from where all signatures are from and will be able to express how many
Quebecers, Canadians, and other world citizens are in favor of protecting
boreal forest.
