[Efw-user] Endian STOPS when booting while loading SQUID web proxy

2007-10-14 Thread Tom
Hello group!

I installed a copy of Endian Community 2.1.2 yesterday on a nex box.

Everything went fine, until I rebooted the box for testing.

The following occurs each time I reboot: Endian starts all services until it
comes to:

.

Setting up network interfaces

Setting up efw firewall rules

Starting httpd [OK]

Starting snort (if enabled)

Starting squid [OK]

. And there it stops! I can't switch to another console with CTRL-ALT-F2 or
do anything. It remains there forever.

But: when I press CTRL-C, it continues normally with the next message:

.

Starting httpd [OK]

Starting snort (if enabled)

Starting squid [OK]

Setting up IP accounting

.

and Endian continues to boot properly and starts ok!

When I go to the web-frontend of Endian to the menu ProxyHTTP and disable
the web proxy for green and orange (I have only green, orange and red), the
booting goes without any problem and without any stopping:

.

Starting httpd [OK]

Starting snort (if enabled)

Setting up IP accounting

.

But then of course I have not squid-web-proxy anymore.

I have not changed anything to Endian on console level, only the settings of
the web-frontend!

What can I do? What is the problem? Any advice of anyone?

Best regards

Tomakos

P.S. My RED interface dials up via PPPoE using a DSL-Modem connected via a
network interface card. I don't know if this is important. But it is the
only difference to another Endian box of mine, where everything works ok,
and there I am using Ethernet Static instead.

[Efw-user] Longtime IPCop user - Need something for my church...

2007-10-14 Thread Tom Bishop
I've been looking and reading about Endian for sometime and need to
implement something at my church. Endian meets all of my requirements and
actually thinking about buying the enterprise version. I wanted to start
with the community version first and see how things goes but the one thing
that I have come across is that it appears that updates are not released for
the community versions ( just the ISO's, I realize these contain the updated
RPM's). I see there are some that are offering the updates on their own but
was wondering if Endian ever planned on releasing updates for the community
version. Also, would like to know on the success, will probably have less
than 20 folks using it, my machine will be a 2ghz amd xp, with 512MB of
memory and plenty of disk. If anyone has any suggestions please let me
know. Thanks.

I have it implemented for at least 5 clients, going to be pushing out 10
enterprise devices as a VPN private network later in the year. It works
fine, some notable bugs with DNS caching and DHCP-on-red/SIP Proxy ,and
lack of DNS push-out feature for OpenVPN. Otherwise, works pretty stable.

It's too easy, go for it.

I would disable the outgoing firewall, just for testing. And forward
 the right ports, of course.

I use Azureus for torrents, which doesn’t seem to need any forwarded
 ports...

 Hi

I'm having problems with my utorrent client.

 I've enabled:

 1. Port Forwarding
 2. External Access
 3. Outgoing Firewall Rule

On my Endian Firewall Community release 2.1.2 with the required port
 for my
 utorrent client.

Port forwarding seems to be working find, but still the utorrent client
can't seems to be connecting to the tracker. Can someone shed some
 light on
 this.

I've been using IPcop before, and the utorrent client was working fine
 with
 the usual port forwarding.

 Thanks in advanced.

[Efw-user] Controlling OpenVPN Client Access

2007-10-14 Thread Joseph L. Casale
Is there a similar method to control vpn client access in a manner similar to
how you could with a cisco pix and acl's?

Also, are there plans to allow user access based on radius or ldap
authentication?

Thanks,
jlc
