Re: [Efw-user] RES: Any word on the EFW 2.3?
Only problem is Endian is rather expensive especially for countries with a weak exchange rates. Endian don’t offer you many options. Like a cheap option for updates to the open source edition or other creative options. While we discussing Endian as a general rule they are extremely poor at communicating to the open source community who follow the product, version timelines are impossible to obtain, even feedback is extremely limited. Features have supposedly been completed but not available to the open source community to test, which you would think would benefit them and their enterprise clients by more thorough testing? Anyway I love the product but I think their business philosophy is preventing them from growing. Maybe somebody from Endian or somebody who knows more, can provide some real feedback? Looking forward to a positive response. I try to make sure its secure as possible by - making sure it uses SSL for communication with the Nagios host. - make sure the nagios hosts allowed to connect is kept to a strictly controlled list - configure NRPE to *not* accept externally provided parameters - this can be a bit inconvenient with a large number of internal servers but this is likely to be the weakest part of NRPE. You're right to be concerned - any open port is a possible weakness in a firewall but the overall resilience of the infrastructure as a whole can only be improved by continually monitoring it. [Efw-user] Endian Network
Hi Endian Team Would there be any chance of allowing the Endian Open source community to link their boxes to the Endian network for basic monitoring? Maybe charge a small fee if you must? Something along the lines of what DynDns.com charge for their dynamic DNS service. I would be more than willing to pay a small fee say 12$ per year per box to connect my Open Source Endian box to the Endian network to monitor if it's up or down, get email alerts, and some basic reporting. I would not expect the full feature set of Endian Network. Any thoughts, would anybody else be interested in something like this? I think this would benefit Endian as much as it would help the guys running the Open Source version. Looking forward to your response. Re: [Efw-user] Endian Remote Manager
Open port 10443 under external access, that will give you remote access to the box. You can also enable ssh under system, and open port 22 on external access, if you need ssh access. Lastly if you don’t have a static IP configure dynamic DNS Hope this helps Steve From: Julio Cesar [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 10 November 2008 06:09 PM To: efw-user@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Efw-user] Endian Remote Manager Hello, I need to set the Endian Community 2.2 RC3 so i can manage it remotely, outside of the office. [Efw-user] routing with community edition
Am I correct in saying that the community version of Endian does not support static routing via the GUI? Re: [Efw-user] Endian 2.2rc1 and SIP
My experience with 2.2rc1 is simply way to many issues to use in any production environment. I did try 2.1.x I ran an asterisk box behind Endian running an IAX2 trunk through it without too many hassles for a while as a test, worked ok, did have to restart Endian once in a while, not sure if the problem was really Endian or my Asterisk box though. I'd love to troubleshoot this issue... perhaps even help get it resolved in the eminent release 2.2rc2. As I see it, the issue did not exist in 1.8. I skipped 2.1.x because of issues with port forwarding and AV updating, so I can not comment on if the issue is in that release. I'm seeing nothing in the SIP proxy logs... so I'm thinking that the issue may be there somewhere; though, the issue persists even when the proxy is disabled. I find it difficult to believe that I am the only person needing to run a SIP device behind Endian. Can anyone else chime in on this with some experience or a perspective? I have been using this service for a while with Endian 1.8 w/out issue; however, once I moved to 2.2rc1 I am unable to get audio into my SIP device. Audio out works fine. I've attempted port forwarding the ports used for the RTP stream, SIP ports, etc. No luck. I have also attempted to do a 1:1 NAT and it still does not function properly. I enabled the SIP proxy with no change. I ran siproxyd from the command line to see if I could get some debug output. I edited the /etc/siproxyd.conf file to trigger some messages. I was unable to get any debug output. Does anyone else have any suggestions regarding this? Anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm at a loss. M. I love the product but can we please get an accurate schedule of release dates. And more frequent updates. I love the product but these slow release schedule, with no dates is killing me! Re: [Efw-user] Endian 2.2 RC2 Release Date
Intentionally or unintentionally Endian have created a environment that does not really allow the community to participate fully, or easily at least. Endian keeps things very close to their chest so to speak. Buying the commercial package is simply not in the budget at this stage and does not conform to our philosophy. I would be more than happy to buy Endian for commercial support when required. I would love to offer testing on updated releases and provide feedback, if there was something being released. By simply requesting for information that clearly other people are looking for as well, is this not participating? In Short Endian does not really allow us community members to contribute easily. I would like to get some feedback from Endian on my thoughts.
