I don't know whether I do or don't have any sort of problem with DNS, I
need to ask the network administrator.

I have also noticed that if the machine isn't connected to any
network then the GUI of Ekiga would start after one to three seconds,
but if the machine is connected to some router (regular network, unlike
this particular case) then the GUI of Ekiga would start after ten or
twenty seconds, sometimes you'll need to wait up to ninety seconds,
which is very unfortunate and gives a bad impression to new users that
are experiencing this kind of behavior.

Why does Ekiga waits for a working connection before it starts the GUI
instead of starting the GUI before it and Ekiga will indicate about
"searching..." for a working connection in its status-bar?

Which codec does Ekiga appears to be using in your toll-free call?

If Ekiga is not using PCMA/PCMU for that call then disable all the
codecs (or the current codec), make sure that PCMA and PCMU
are enabled and let Ekiga to use PCMA or PCMU for thas call.

Edit → Preferences → Audio → Codecs: G722, PCMA, PCMU, Speex etc.

As far as I recall, when I had a problem with toll-free numbers
it was with the G722 codec, so I've needed to disable it and to
use PCMA or PCMU.

Re: [Ekiga-list] Dialing US toll-free numbers

2011-08-11 Thread Genghis Khan
The reasons may be:
1) Problems with a codec.
2) A temporary problem with the gateway: Internet or with the landline (which
is connecting sip users to the real world) itself.
3) Maybe there are more possibilities?

May someone please reveal the real SIP address of Idea SIP behind the ekiga.net
prefix "sip:*850"? (sip:*8501800...@ekiga.net - US 800 Toll Free Numbers)

[Ekiga-list] I Hear U Project (Feature/Plugin Request)

2011-08-17 Thread Genghis Khan
I have been using, for the last 6 month, the most simple VoIP client
application that I have ever been using, it is called IHU!

IHU is a Voice over IP (VoIP) application for Linux (using Qt3), that
creates an audio stream between two computers easily and with the
minimal traffic on the network.

The possibilities of use of IHU are endless, for example you can use it
like a phone to talk with your friends all around the world, or at
home/work, to talk between computers in the LAN (talkback), etc.
 | Ekiga can be used to communicate with IP only over LAN
 | For instance: sip:user@192.168.0.5
 | Currently, it is not possible, yet, to speak with Ekiga with
 | IP only over WAN (over the Internet)

Peer-to-Peer: the communication takes place directly between the
computers (UDP and TCP both supported), without need of session
protocols (such as SIP or H323) or other servers in the middle.

Crypted stream: you have also the possibility to Encrypt/Decrypt the
stream using a fast hybrid cryptographic system (RSA + Blowfish)
Command-line support: the GUI is not strictly necessary, you can run
also a textual IHU from command-line (for example if you need to run
the program on remote computers).

Can anybody write a Plugin or add to Ekiga a feature to communicate in
the same way that IHU does?

If you want to test it, there is a standalone package that can be run
directly from a USB stick (no installation is required!)
http://ihu.sourceforge.net/download.html
ihu-0.6.0-bin_staticQt.tar.bz2
0.6.0 i386 binary linked with static libs
2550 KB

Just enter the IP address of your friend and start to chat!
The quality is better than Skype, since IHU is using Speex :-)

[An emergency call!] This feature will be very beneficial in cases when
one of the intermediate SIP servers is down ^_^

The following SIP clients are available for Windows, too.

Should we add these to a special page "Windows SIP Clients" in the wiki?

Ekiga is a VoIP client for the SIP protocol, so every other software which
is a VoIP client for SIP can communicate with the Ekiga software SIP client
and you can use the ekiga.net SIP server, or any other SIP server, with
Ekiga or any other SIP client software.

You might want to use LinPhone for Android

an option to install GTK+ libraries. Though, I do know that Ekiga is
installlable on an OS such as iX http://www.projectix.org/ which has the

[Ekiga-list] Building a Slackware 13.37 package of 3.3.2 [UNSTABLE]

2011-08-23 Thread Genghis Khan
Can I build Ekiga, OPAL and PTLib from the following existing .SlackBuild
packages?

SBo: http://slackbuilds.org/result/?search=ekiga
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/network/ekiga/
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/libraries/opal/
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/libraries/ptlib/

OR Slacky.eu:

http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-13.37/libraries/opal/3.6.8/src/
http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-13.37/libraries/ptlib/2.6.7/src/

[In other words] Is there any (significant) differences between
the compiling options/flags from Ekiga 3.2.7 to 3.3.2 ?

I don't think so, it also doesn't look similar to the
desktop (GTK+) version http://www.linphone.org/eng/screenshots/

You can obtain the source codes here

Re: [Ekiga-list] Selecting audio devices with Pulse Audio

2011-09-21 Thread Genghis Khan
Are you using Blueman?

Try to fiddle with its PulseAudio plugin:
http://blueman-project.org/images/stories/screenshots/1.0/screenshot_008.png

I haven't tried it with a Bluetooth headset.
I prefer the good old wired headsets (less radiation).

Maybe you should manipulate input/output solely with Pulse Audio itself.

explain shortly what is this feature, what does it do and so on... and
it will tell to the user that Ekiga is going to restart itself and will
generate a debug file and there will be a link to the Users Mailing

[Ekiga-list] Fw: Add a menu entry of "ekiga -d 4" output

Please reply in regard to the content and topic.

Subject: [Ekiga-list] Add a menu entry of "ekiga -d 4" output

Add a menu item in the Help menu which will say "Auto-build a report"
"Analise and send" or "anything else", which will prompt the user to a
dialog which will explain shortly what is this feature, what does it do
and so on... and it will tell to the user that Ekiga is going to
restart itself and will generate a debug file and there will be a link
to the Users Mailing List or to both Users (Help) and Devel
(Development) Mailing Lists.

Any thoughts?

And this auto report generator will also archive/compress (7z, gzip,
tar, zip or whatever is available) this report (this will save a lot of
trouble to all of us, instead of using File Uploading websites).

[Ekiga-list] Advertisements on Ekiga.org with OpenX?

2012-01-30 Thread Genghis Khan
Dear everyone

Please submit your opinion (yes & no) about this issue.
Your opinion IS important.

Dear Admins

Please put advertisements related to SIP technology (SIP telephones or
SIP server providers (e.g. Diamondcard) etc.) on Ekiga.org
...with contracts, of course, not just ads for fun :-P

Please use YOUR OWN advertisement platform/server (controlled
exclusively by you) like OpenX.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpadsnew/
http://www.openx.com/

OpenX (phpAdsNew) is an open-source ad server, with an integrated
banner management interface and tracking system for gathering
statistics. With OpenX you can easily rotate paid banners and your own
in-house advertisements.

I believe that advertisements, of trusted good (e.g. SIP telephones, or
businesses that can install SIP to land line gateways) and service
providers (e.g. SIP to land line) will increase the popularity of the
SIP technology and the use Ekiga. The more various uses we will be
reading about, the more SIP users are going to be.

Important note: In order to prevent future embarrassment and joylessness
with pay services (e.g. someone was paying for Diamondcard and Ekiga
did not always operated well), please suggest other SIP clients (one or
two) in case Ekiga is not working well, or, as you do here in the
mailing lists, asking from the users to test Ekiga with a free ekiga.net
account and only after use pay services.
I do believe that this should be proposed by the service providers, not
by the Ekiga staff.

Thank you for reading this message.

Re: [Ekiga-list] Advertisements on Ekiga.org with OpenX?

2012-01-30 Thread Genghis Khan
SIP Gateways: I am very impressed with the SIP gateways like the toll
free which you provide to us and I think that many people, if only they
knew, are interested in establishing such gateways for their own
telephone lines, with SIP hardware phone and exchange permissions with
friends abroad in order to reduce their phone bills.

THIS you can do with SIP, which Ekiga supports, NOT with Skype.
People need to understand that Microsoft had bought the number of the
users that are bound to the shackles of Skype, not the technology which
seem to be heading to open source one like SIP and XMPP, and yet still
limited to the domains and servers of Skype.

I too would like to see GIF, JPEG, PNG (static and animated).

For your information:
There is a new type of animated banners with CSS3 (alternative to SWF)

Horizontal http://tympanus.net/Tutorials/AnimatedWebBanners/index.html
Vertical http://tympanus.net/Tutorials/AnimatedWebBanners/index2.html

I don't like the banners on this website, they are consuming more than
40% of my CPU power, but at least don't take 110% like Flash/SWF does.
CSS3 would be nice if it won't consume so much CPU, and if it is
possible to make animated CSS3 banners to consume low rate of CPU power
like most GIF and PNG banners do, then I woudn't have any issue with it.

You can use CSS to switch images on mouse hovering, which is very nice.

I have found this animated CSS3 banner website at OccupyFlash (TVV1tT3R)

I do not know if it can activate a CSS3 animation, though I believe
that it can if it did with CSS before.

I recall seeing, a few years ago, a 300x300 image which started to move
like a "cube inside a screen" on mouse-over (Javascript was disabled).
When I was looking in the code of the page I have seen that it was a
300x1800 image which had 6 different squares with 6 different poses of
that square. It was a cool trick which didn't require high load of CPU.

I dislike Javascript because it can detect my mouse cursor and what I am
copying, selecting etc.

Maybe we would be able to get help on how to do reproduce this, from
users of http://userstyles.org/ or any other CSS discussion board.

Should this be realized into a script? (as a separate command)
$ ekiga-debug

The script will display a box with instructions in the following manner:

---

| | | |
| |
| |
| □ Advanced View | Cancel | Back | Forward | |
---

Maybe better to make it look like the Configuration Assistant.

Instructions like.

$ ekiga-debug
Error: Ekiga is running. Close Ekiga and try again.

On the Welcome dialog:
Close Ekiga
Run the command (ekiga-debug)
Repeat the steps that caused to the problem.
Exit Ekiga

Or maybe even something like this:

(Dialog has started)
(The user is clicking on Next, while Ekiga is still running)
Message: Ekiga is running, would you like to close it? (yes/no)

(Closing Ekiga ... ... ...)

Ekiga doesn't seem to be closing, would you like to terminate the
process Ekiga? (yes/no)

(Killing Ekiga...)

etc.

The script will compress the output (text) in whatever archiving format
available (7z, gzip, tar, zip).

The output will contain the version of Ekiga and date:
Ekiga-3.3.2_-MM-DD.tar.gz

A message of where the file was saved to.

Enabling □ Advanced View will show the log writing in action in an
embedded terminal within the dialog.
$ tail -f Ekiga-3.3.2_-MM-DD.log

Maybe some grep actions? or whatever on your mind.

Q: Why do I believe so?
A: Many users that I know on Zenwalk, SalixOS, Slacky.eu and other
Slackware communities as well in the #techrights (formerly Boycott
Novell) IRC channel on Freenode who constantly complained about why
Ekiga is working so slow, GUI is not responding and the calls get stuck.

[Ekiga-list] IRC channel activity

2012-02-08 Thread Genghis Khan
The official Ekiga channel is located at the GNOME IRC Network

Network: irc.gnome.org (also: irc.gimp.net)
Channel: #ekiga

Problem:
There are plenty of potential users who are naturally starting at
Freenode (because they are used that all of the free software projects
are located on the Freenode network) instead of visiting
http://ekiga.org/community and as long as they won't visit ekiga.org or
as long as there is no one active in the channel to report where most
of the users are (GNOME Network) those IRC users will leave us for good.

Some of these users, so I believe, can contribute (support and even
code) and revive the #ekiga IRC channel at the GNOME Network.

Suggestion:
A topic title should be placed at the IRC channel of Ekiga at Freenode
(irc.freenode.org) which says:
Welcome to Ekiga. The official channel has moved to irc.gnome.org,
#ekiga. Please visit http://ekiga.org/community for more information.

Currently, as it seems, there is one admin at the IRC channel of Ekiga
at Freenode (irc.freenode.org).

Can anyone take care about this issue?

Software featured in the poll: Ekiga, Empathy, Jitsi, KPhone, Linphone,

I'm sorry about it, I have found out about this two days ago, and yet I
know that every year there is a vote for VoIP, Distributions, Audio
Players etc. on this website forum.

Next time we should all be aware of this vote for at least a month
before it is closing and we all should promote non-Skype VoIP clients
(preferably SIP clients) in order to promote open VoIP software like
Ekiga, Linphone, SFLphone, Mumble (not SIP), QuteCom and others.

Three (or even more) SIP clients, one setback (Skype) to overcome.

Good luck to all of us at LQ in a year :-)

P.S. this is not the only available poll or this year, we need to
initiate some polls by ourselves.

Thank you yannick for setting up a title:
Welcome to Ekiga || Damien's Blog: http://blog.ekiga.net/ || Ekiga
3.3.2 [UNSTABLE] is out || Ekiga 3.2.7 [STABLE]

We still need to set a title on Freenode.

Suggestion: adding an IRC Bot which will notify on updates.
There is a project called TOPfeeder Python RSS-IRC bot (Python)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pytopfeeder/

Requirements:
Python 2.5.4 and 2.6.0
TinyUrl module http://pypi.python.org/pypi/TinyUrl
MySQL module http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-python/
MySQL

There is a file named SQL.sql

INSERT INTO `feeds` (`id`, `command`, `url`, `nick`, `date`) VALUES
(1, '.git', 'http://git.gnome.org/browse/ekiga/atom/?h=master', 'Recent GIT
activity', ''),
(2, '.dml',
'http://www.mail-archive.com/ekiga-devel-list@gnome.org/maillist.xml',
'ekiga-devel-list', ''),
(3, '.uml', ''http://www.mail-archive.com/ekiga-list@gnome.org/maillist.xml,
'ekiga-list', ''),

I will look up for something that doesn't require MySQL.

2012-02-14 Thread Genghis Khan
Dear fellow SIP users,

This email was sent to Ekiga, Jitsi, Linphone, QuteCom, and SFLphone
in order to promote a shared aspiration which is decentralized VoIP.

This is a part of a thread which I have originally started in the
Ekiga Users Mailing List (Support & Help).

__
Issue: Using IRC Bot to display updates from RSS feeds in order to get
more audience, reputation, productivity and activity.
IRC Bot Software: GOZERBOT http://gozerbot.org/ (BSD License)

Since the fact that some of us are volunteers and not everyone of us
has enough resources, enough time, enough experience then it would
be best to all of us to have the most proper bot manager that can be.

This subject is relevant to all of you I propose on registering a new
user at the Freenode IRC Network with the name "SIP-Bot" which the bot
will use and serve all the VoIP project channels.

The following instrucations are relevant to everyone, despite the fact
that it is specifically aimed at Ekiga.

Naming the bot (optional)

There is an argument --name=Ekiga_Bot
Using it will result in a new directory and files in
./gozerbot-1.0.1/gozerdata/fleet/Ekiga_Bot/config

To name the bot to Ekiga_Bot, edit the file config and replace the
names gozerbot with Ekiga_Bot

[Ekiga-list] MicroSIP (Windows only)

2012-05-17 Thread Genghis Khan
Hi everyone,

Introducing MicroSIP, a portable (USB stick, no install) SIP client!

MicroSIP http://microsip.org.ua/

While I love using Ekiga, Jitsi, Linphone and QuteCom, I get many
strange feedbacks from M$_Wund0se users that Ekiga isn't good (they say
it because the name SIP is not prevalent in their brainwashed minds)
and because it isn't good, by their terms, they start to complain that
it is consuming too much RAM (~30 - ~40 is not much) and eventually they
are removing the SIP client.

I have discovered a lightweight SIP client for the Windows operating
system which is called MicroSIP and it is allegedly using a small
footprint (>2.5MB) and RAM usage (>5MB) - written in C and C++ with
minimal possible system resources usage.

[Ekiga-list] Web-browser association with sip: links and Ekiga (Windows 7)

2012-05-25 Thread Genghis Khan
Someone on the IRC chat room has made a great, yet obvious, suggestion
to use Ekiga to open hyper-link sip: addresses.

But before I'm suggesting anything, this might be an issue with Ekiga
itself (a bug) and not a feature that needs to be added, because sip:
links do work on UNIX.

Using Ekiga to open sip: links from Web-browser on Windows.

Including the command ekiga --call or ekiga -c in the Windows registry
(or wherever it is needed in order to make web browsers to open sip:
addresses with ekiga).

I'm not knowledgeable on Windows and so I do not know what is the
character that is needed to be put after "C:\Program Files
(x86)\Ekiga\ekiga.exe --call ???" to make it dynamic so (using a
shortcut that will be selected in Firefox - a temporary solution).

I know that it is usually $1 in Linux.

There is a bug.

When using the argument --call while a process of Ekiga is already
running on Windows a message will pop up 'Ekiga is running'.

Dear Mr. Hasterok,

This is important news! and must be published on the Ekiga Wiki, and
also at ekiga.org when this would be ready for everyday use.

Did you publish a forum post on the PORTABLE FREEWARE collection
realm of Andrew Lee?

I am 100% certain that TPFC is the best place to do so (though, not
merely there, of course).

Relevant links:

There are no results for Ekiga, yet.

Shalom Dima,

I am not certainly understand what you are referring to. Did you refer
to the Right-to-left alignment or did you apply that the translation is
not clear enough?

I am not the lead Hebrew translator of Gajim (software), but I am the
one who translated the website into Hebrew. If you have any suggestions
concerning to how to improve gajim.org website translation, please
write them to me :-)

The alignment of gajim.org was somewhat tricky. Eventually, we have
added http://gajim.org/css/main-rtl.css to reverse the text alignment.
The alignment should not be difficult to manipulate and I assume that
it will not take so long to accomplish as I recall my correspondence
regarding to extra RSS feeds, with the website admin (I think it is
Yannick) and he was quite fast.

I use Slackware Linux (Fluxbox), and I would guess that Mr. Woodfall
does use Linux as well due to writing-down the phrase Window Manager
(WM), not Microsoft Windows. Though, WM such as Blackbox and Fluxbox
are available for Microsoft Windows too.

I would also vote to have this feature again. This is useful for people
who are usually running Ekiga mostly for incoming calls, especially
after they start up their system.

* To me, because of the above, it seems strange not having such feature.

Why do you want to use 3.2.6, if I may ask?
As far as I recall, 3.2.6 or 3.2.7 have bad connectivity issues
which make Ekiga to freeze.

a. It is possible to use different software that use same protocol.
However, there may be an issue of case-problem which would result in
clients that intended to be communicating with each other to not
communicate.

http://lists.affinix.com/pipermail/psi-devel-affinix.com/2012-November/thread.html

b. It is also possible to use different software that use different
protocol via gateway/bridge of 3rd party (i.e. SIP to land-line; Jingle
to land-line; SIP <-> land-line <-> Skype).
There are available gateways from SIP to Jingle and from Jingle to SIP.
There is also Asterisk integration with Skype but I think non of them
are available for the public since Microsoft took over
.

c. In future, I guess, people will make plugins for Ekiga and other SIP
clients that correspond with Skype protocol by reverse-engineered code,
which is being censored by Microsoft and various of ISPs by blocking
BitTorrent traffic of it
.

Of course, SIP and also Jabber/XMPP are protocols that can be
federated, by default and by design, and need not an exclusive
authority to operate.

Stop using ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Skype.
http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~bo92cafu/im.html
http://wwwcip.cs.fau.de/~bo92cafu/im.html

We have SIP and Jabber/XMPP in the spirit of what the WWW was
originally designed for.

Also, in this sense, you choose the software you like, not someone else.
Proprietary protocols make the WWW weaker and PC is lesser fun.

It depends, if a provider is blocking SIP traffic only to its domain
then communications of this provider will be only within its domain.

e.g. Facebook and WhatsApp are both using Jabber/XMPP (which is usually
opened to other domains like SIP) for their communications, but both
restrict their communications merely for their domain names.

IMHO, Maybe you need to add, near Diamondcard, a number to call you
back from land-line, if there is.

What exactly is missing or wrong in Ekiga?

It seems that many are satisfied with the many improved performances of
Ekiga in recent year, and is constantly being updated in repositories
such as Slackware and Salix OS.

I dislike GNOME because of its dependency management which is troubling
for users who would like to install a program that weight less than
10MB and need to get over 90MB of unneeded programs to get that program
to work.

For your information, MATE (fork of GNOME2) are working to solve this
dependency travesty of GNOME http://mate-desktop.org/

Before I get to bash GNOME, please note that you can choose not to use
GNOME and gconfd support by using these flags:
 --disable-gnome \
 --disable-gconf \

So your argument is irrelevant (well, unless there is no GNOME-free
binary package available in some repository) even though I fully agree
with your point of view.

I have two main problems with gconfd. One problem is focusing on GNOME
instead of finding a way to incorporate a solution to GNOME, LXDE,
MATE, Xfce and even KDE and Qt all together; The other problem is that,
once again, GNOME are attempting to foist on others, who are not
interested, unneeded dependencies, which is a way to market the brand
GNOME. The politics of GNOME is bad and I am still amazed and wonder
how it got to such an ugly point instead of better helping to all of us
who like to be or to have an ability to be DE independent and who, so I
think, are still a minority.

I also think that there should be an option in GUI to set up STUN.

FireStarter is a good firewall GUI. Too bad it is still abandoned.

I used to think it was required to have an H.323 account.

WAN = Wide Area Network, also known as the Internet.

It sounds important. May you or any other french speaker please
translate this document?

Also, better copy and backup this page into wiki.ekiga.org.

Re: [Ekiga-list] Opus Codec in Ekiga

2013-10-21 Thread Genghis Khan
Hello,

I do not know the answer, but concerning to CELT and SPEEX, I do not
want CELT and SPEEX to be removed. SPEEX is a glorious codec which was
not as popular as Opus since it never had the heavy backs of big
corporations, mainly a search engine (G) and another company (M)
heavily funded by it, which is known for a web browser (F) of it.

P.S. if one would want to make a record archive, especially on a
massive scale (e.g. NSA) you would, probably, want to use SPEEX.

Re: [Ekiga-list] iconic start

2013-10-22 Thread Genghis Khan
Hello,

I am in favor of such feature. I think this is the second time, this
year, someone is posting this request.

Example software: aMule, Gajim, Liferea, Psi, Transmission, WICD.

P.S.
I have sent an Email (Bcc) to a person who I recall posted the same
request in the past.  Please participate, if you will.

Re: [Ekiga-list] iconic start

2013-10-26 Thread Genghis Khan
Hallo,

A good argument, by my opinion, as to why Ekiga should have an option
to start in system tray at start-up is this case:

I am a person who is mainly uses Email to communicate information.
I am a person who is secondarily uses Jabber/XMPP (IM) to communicate.

I am a person who is communicating with audio, only, with SIP.
I am keeping Ekiga opened all the time my machine is turned on.
For this reason, I want Ekiga to be hidden in systray, not to have its
window on my screen and then minimize it to systray, each time I turn
on my machine.

If someone would want to communicate with me, using SIP VoIP, I just
press Answer on notification pop-up of Xfce.
