Re: [Elecraft] K2 Encoder wiring
I have just discovered that it is possible to remove the entire pin from Z1 when attempting to remove a wire soldered to it, as Z1's pins are themselves soldered into a small PC board. It goes back in, but it's not fun to fix. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] Ear-buds?
Don, I have both Sony earbuds and The Plug by Koss. The Sonys may have slightly higher mfg. reported sensitivity, but the The Plug has a sound channel that goes deeper into the ear. The Plug has silicone buds that seal out ambient noise. The Sonys dont seal. There used to be a website that offered plug mods on The Plug, butmy link is dead. Koss has improved the silicone plugs from earlier editions and each set now comes with several different styles of plugs. I find myself using the Koss more than the Sony. I have read that some ear shapes dont easily accommodate the silicone plugs, however. Gil/NN4CW K2 3104; KX1 53. _ Dont just search. Find. Tom, I can't speak for the latest version of Spectrogram, but you can use version 5 (the last free version) for the K2 filter alignment and not have to fool with all the bells and whistles of the latest stuff. See my website article on K2 Dial Calibration (Step 3) www.qsl.net/w3fpr for information and links to obtaining and using version 5. Only one note on your computer setup (for any version) - make sure the sound card input you are attempting to use is enabled (and not muted). You should hear the K2 audio in your computer speakers when things are set up correctly. 73, Don W3FPR - Original Message - hello has anyone used the latest version of sectogram to set up k2 filters i would be very gratefull for any g uidance settings -procededure all ive got is a blank screen maybe my sound card is not working thanks folks ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] key down voltage drop
I would suggest that the problem is inside the power supply - perhaps something as simple as a poor connection on the inside of the output terminals. Even the drop you are seeing with the TS-570 seems excessive to me. We don't know the actual current being drawn, but it may be quite different with the 100 watt TS-570 and the K2 (the K2 may actually draw more under these conditions). I am not familiar with the TS-570, but many other transceivers will simply produce less power with a lowered voltage, but the K2 will attempt to draw more and more current with reduced voltage levels in an attempt to produce the power output that has been requested - this is done by the K2 internal ALC function. That COULD explain part of the voltage with the K2 at 100 watts, but it does not explain the 12.1 volts with the K2 at QRP levels - something very strange is present here, and IMHO, the 'cure' will be found in the power supply. 73, Don W3FPR - Original Message - From: "Dan Barker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> That is very odd indeed. You should measure at the other end of the wires, to see what the radio is seeing, but I'm afraid that would make it even worse. Can you measure the current being drawn? I connected a voltmeter across the power supply terminals and keyed each rig on 20 meters at 1.0.1 swr at 100 watts output. power supply voltage unloaded measures 13.8 volts. ts-570 drops voltage down to 12.4 volts k2/100 drops voltage down to 10.8 volts. k2/qrp at 15 watts drops down to 12.1 volts. the reason for all this is that I kept getting 558 557 598 signal reports and decided to see if I had a voltage problem. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] K2 Remote/Server
I'm not sure what K2Remote and K2Server are supposed to do, but if it's that they allow network control of the rig, then you can already do that. I have been controlling my TS850S for years over several network connections using a device called a Serial Device Server. It can be implemented in either hardware or software, so you don't even necessarily need a computer at the remote site. I don't have a K2 yet, but I suspect it would work the same since K2 uses the basic Kenwood protocol. I control a lot of devices remotely using this architecture including rotator, relays, A/D inputs, SteppIR controller, etc. It will work with most serially controlled devices. ARRL has accepted an article I wrote about implementing this capability for future publication. There is more info on my website at www.telepostinc.com/n8lp.html under the link "Remote Control of Networked Station Equipment". The basic idea is that the server converts serial ports to TCP ports at the remote site, and the client at the home site converts the TCP ports into virtual com ports that any software can access as though they were real. You can also control the rig remotely using the remote telnet server in TRX-Manager. TRX offers Master (home) and Slave (remote) options for the two locations that can be tied together through a built in telnet terminal. 73, Larry N8LP - Original Message - From: Mike S To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 16, 2004 1:41 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Remote/Server What's the status of K2 Remote and K2 Server? That is very odd indeed. You should measure at the other end of the wires, to see what the radio is seeing, but I'm afraid that would make it even worse. Can you measure the current being drawn? That would be an interesting figure. Are you certain RF isn't getting into the PS or the meter? 13.8 - 12.4 is more than .2 volts! 1.4 comes to mind. A 3 volt drop in a 35 amp supply just doesn't compute. Maybe if you were using a long 18 guage wire and measuring at the rig, but you aren't! You mention 5x9 signal reports. [Elecraft] KX1 Sidetone?
I've got my KX-1 board construction complete through Part II, and am working the Part II checks. A few questions - First, the sidetone level is VERY low. When the AF Gain is at the 12 o'clock position as per the manual, I can't hear the sidetone on any of the three levels. With the level at three, and taking the AF Gain knob to the upper "stop" results in some background noise with a _barely_ audible sidetone using the code speed menu to generate the tones (about a "2" or "3" signal against the noise, if I was listening to it on the air.) I'm a little confused, too - I thought side tones were generated through the transmitter section (I'm not the hottest guy in the world for radio design, but I seem to remember that it normally comes from the BFO?) - the point is that I don't have any of that stuff installed yet. Does the sidetone in the KX-1 get generated in U1, perhaps? I thought that perhaps that the level would improve when I peaked the receiver trimmer caps (since the manual says that sidetone level is set in relation to the normal received audio), but that didn't help. The AF level with the gain cranked up isn't what I'd call overwhelming, either (but it's not weak, either.) Now, as a related thing, I was cruising the archives and noticed that not all earbuds are created the same (which shouldn't surprise me, I guess.) Can anyone suggest a good model and online source for use with the KX1? I'm currently using a set of the "flat disc" waterproof-style Sonys (that's what I had on hand). No idea of the sensitivity. And finally, I've had ongoing problems with U1 seating. Part I worked great, but the first time I turned the unit on for Part II, I only had about half of the LED lines working. A few troubleshooting minutes later, I pushed U1 into it's socket a touch further and have had no problems since (or maybe I have?) I guess my question about U1 is this - the pins on U1 measure roughly 3/64 from the surface of the socket to the "shoulder" - is this "seated far as possible"? Or do I need to push harder? IF the sidetone is generated in U1, and IF U1 isn't seated far enough, these problems might be related. I should add that all resistance, voltage and solder checks are normal. I checked that the ATU jumper was OK, too. The only other unusual things that I've seen so far is a little noise in the headphone jack when moved (unsurprising) and all three pots having a little noise when moved (however, resistance checks are normal.) I thought that I would go back and doublecheck the physical position of everything in Part II tonight, but since this is the only problem, I'm not thinking I'll turn up anything (famous last words!) Can you all help? I'm thinking that (either) something in the sidetone generation process is screwed up, or that something in the AF amplifier circut is. Oh, and finally - can I use the Elecraft noise generator to peak the bands? I've been using an antenna wire, since I wasn't sure if the noise generator was a large enough signal to activate the AGC or not, but the noise generator would be a lot more convienient and repeatable. I know the above is a lot to answer, but before I really get this thing torn apart for troubleshooting, I thought I'd check to see what actual problems I had, first! 72 DE V7/KF4BAL Richard Perry ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
The AF level with the gain cranked up isn't what I'd call overwhelming, either (but it's not weak, either.) [Elecraft] Anti-VOX Project - Ver 7.0
Jack WA4FIB made a valid recommendation which I have included in the project. An updated circuit and board is now on my site. http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~baker/ 73 Stewart G3RXQ ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
