I know this topic has come up before, but is anyone actually using DeoxIT Gold on their K3? (See http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.292/.f) Past discussions here have stated that it's the appropriate product in their lineup to use, but is anyone actually using it? Is it worthwhile? Re: [Elecraft] Anyone using DeoxIT Gold?
I am uing both DeoxIt and ProGold products and they are simply excellent!!! ProGold is perfect for Bird 43 slugs too! It also lubricates the slug in the directinal coupler! I use the standard DeoxIt on all of my RF connectors and my RF patch bay as wel as Mic connectors, phone and paddle jacks etc. It slows down the tarnishing process on any silver plated connector! You can buy a smal combo pack of ProGold and DeoxIt from Radio Shack (at least here in New England RS carries it) 73, de Andrey, AE1Z ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Mayo Radio Rally Ireland 18th November
The Mayo Radio Experimenters network is having it's annual Radio rally on the 18ht of November in the Belmont Hotel in Knock Co Mayo. Doors open at 11 Am (to the public..) I have volunteered to put on an Elecraft stand. I would very much like some help from other EI / GI Elecraft owners on the day. It's been a couple of years since we ran an elecraft stand at the Mayo rally but now that there's the new K3 and very favourable exchange rates to entice new elecraft owners it's time to do it again. In return for helping out with the stand you get to play with my K3/100 which I plan to have on an antenna for the day, meet face to face with other elecraft owners, look at ( in?) each others radios and share advice on any problems you may be having. An additional benefit is being able to get into the rally at no charge and to get in before the doors open to the public. It would be great if you can bring your elecraft stuff for display on the day. Anyone interested in helping out can contact me via E-mail at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or by phone to +353 (0)86 2501832 Please let me know in advance if you are intending to come and help out so that I can arrange admission. 73's Brendan EI6IZ -- Don‘t complain. [Elecraft] [K3] Question about TX gain calibration
Now that I know that my K3 will soon be here, I am rereading the manuals and have run into to something I'm not sure I really understand. When doing the TX gain calibration (page 46/47 of the Owner's Manual): 1) Does TECH MD have to be on or off? I assume on. 2) Does one need to be in the TXGN menu? 3) Set Power to exactly 5/50/.001 watts somewhere in the K3 display or adjust power until the reading on the external (hopefully) accurate RF power meter is 5/50/.001 watts? And then check the reading on the VFO-B display? 4) Go to next band and repeat 3... I'm sure it's really simple, but at times I can be a bit dense... vy 73 de toby -- DD5FZ (ex 4n6fz, dj7mgq, dg5mgq, dd5fz) K2/10 #885 K2/100 #3248 K3/100 #??? When doing the TX gain calibration (page 46/47 of the Owner's Manual): 1) Does TECH MD have to be on or off? I assume on. And then check the reading on the VFO-B display? Turn the POWER control to set power at 5 or 50 watts. A quick and unscientific test by ear with the K3 shows that it too can hear band noise on the antenna, perhaps not quite as much as the 7800 but I think the K3 will be sensitive enough for serious 6m work. If I get a chance during the week I will take some more accurate measurements with a signal generator and stepped attenuator. Thanks for some genuine data, Brendan - looking forward to some measurements too. RE: [Elecraft] [K3] Question about TX gain calibration
Toby: For what it may be worth... I saved a LOT of time running this sequence by performing ALL of the 5W calibrations at one time... leaving the power set to 5W and running through each band... then, resetting power to 50W and running through each band again. MUCH FASTER than having the jump from 5W to 50W on EACH band as you step from band to band. And there is no difference in the calibration. 73, Tom N0SS 'At 14:48 11/11/2007, Ed Muns wrote: When doing the TX gain calibration (page 46/47 of the Owner's Manual): 1) Does TECH MD have to be on or off? [Elecraft] interesting deal on NOS iambic paddles
A long time friend of mine used to run a ham dealership, which he closed some years ago for personal reasons. He has a small remaining quantity of brand new, old stock Bencher BY-1 (black base) and BY-2 (chrome base) paddles. He does not have a computer or personal internet access, not even a fax machine. (I have tried to talk him into it, but ... long story.) Anyway: He wishes to sell this remaining new-in-sealed-box inventory to hams that would appreciate a great deal and who are also apt to use the keys! I can think of no better such group than the folks here on the Elecraft reflector. He would like to get his selling price from 10 years ago: $79 for the BY-1 and $99 for the BY-2, plus shipping. I have volunteered to take any responses, via private e-mail, and send him the contact information for anyone interested. 73 Steve KZ1X/4 owner of the world's most experienced Elecraft __ Do You Yahoo!? [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for November 12, 2007
Good Evening, First, if you are a veteran: Thank You! The nets ran well this evening though the bands were a bit stingy. However, lately they have been better than they should be at this point in the cycle so I may be getting spoiled. I know I've been spoiled by the crew at Elecraft Central because any time I try running CW on another rig I feel a disappointed in how it's going! Thank you for teaching me how good it can be. As mentioned by the folks south of me it has gotten chilly. But, we have Rick to thank for that. He has sent his cold air down from the Gulf of Alaska to blow its way landward. I have dry weather, he has sun, but the folks in Southern Oregon and further south are getting a little wet. Inland I've had reports of warmer weather.
