[Elecraft] KX1 with 30/80 option - band cycling now limited to 7/10/14
I have had this KX1 for a while. This fault was noted (maybe arose) during a recent garden op. session. Bands 7/10/20 are all operational & selectable as normal, but 3.5 is skipped completely. I acquired this little gem ready built & fully working, so am a bit wary of taking it apart. Before I do, I am wondering if there are any stock faults to look out for ? 73 George G4TPV This e-mail and any attachment may contain confidential and/or privileged information. Re: [Elecraft] P3 Manual Updates
Kevin (and all), It would be a mistake but not for that reason. The newer ActiveX formatted documents and spreadsheets are compatible with earlier versions of Word and Excel back to 2000 if you add Microsoft's free document converter add-ons available from: < http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx> as a "Compatibility Pack". The reason it's a mistake is that it allows others to edit, perhaps incorrectly, the content yet in some circles Elecraft could still be held responsible and that just isn't acceptable. Their current method is a very acceptable compromise between accuracy and cost. Every recent new version of MS Office has included several "features" which make it incompatible with older versions. Save a file in MS Word 2007 .docx format and MS Word 2003 wouldn't know what to do with it. Adobe .pdf never changes thus it's a standard. All you have to do to add errata to the .pdf manuals is get a free .pdf editor like PDF Creator, add the errata to an electronic version of the manual and save it. Your manual is always up to date. I ordered a K3 set a week or so ago via email davesayl...@yahoo.com. I got a response reasonably quickly, but there has not been enough time for them to be shipped yet. Even with the best service. They seem to have some other product lines, so I imagine that these are not their primary business concern, and that is fine with me. I am planning to have them powder coated when I get them. Re: [Elecraft] K2: CAT control of K2/100 with HRD
Steve, It seems you have done everything right, and have a hardware failure on your hands. Since you have not used the RS-232 port before - it is possible that it did not work when the KPA100 was first built. The first thing to check is continuity for RFC6, RFC7, and RFC8 on the KPA100 board (near the DE-9 connector). It is also possible that U4 on the KPA100 board has been damaged. Yes, all the modifications for the serial port are included on any K2 control board SN 3000 and above. If you have a wire on Control Board P4 pin 1, that indicates that the wiring change was incorrectly applied to your Control Board, and should be backed off - in that case you will have to find what trace was really cut (it was not the trace going to pin 25) and repair that cut with a point to point wire. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/18/2011 12:14 PM, Stephen Victor wrote: > > Hi > My K2/100 has been functioning well, and I am now trying for the first time to > use the connection on the 100W amplifier unit for CAT control with Ham Radio > Deluxe. Mike, I have the ones for the K2 and K3. David was very good to work with on the K3 plates. Since he did not have any at the time, I sent him my stock side plates and he made the new ones using those as a template. He returned the stock plates with the new thicker plates. Re: [Elecraft] K2: CAT control of K2/100 with HRD
Stephen, I am running HRD version 5.0, build 2837 with my K2/100. The KPA100 is mounted in the K2 case and, like you, I am also running Win XP. I did not have to make any changes to the serial cable (used with K2/10 & KIO2) or add any drivers to XP. Quite simply, I unhooked the K2/10, added the KPA100 to the K2, and reconnected the serial cable. It all magically worked. Hope this helps. Hey Ed. The last time I placed an order I was also looking for a tracking number but I never got it. The package came very quick for me though. The next time I ordered from Elecraft I asked if I could have tracking and told them what happened the last order I placed. They then looked up my info and found out that they did not have my email address. They told me that in order for me to be emailed the tracking number they would need my email address. I gave it to them and every order I place from that point on, I got a email with my tracking info. You may want to check to see if they have your email address on file. Re: [Elecraft] [K2]Speaker Quit
Curt, Yes, the 3 pins at the rear of the switch are the ones for the switch, and it is integral to the jack housing. I can't recall which two of the 3 pins close the speaker circuit, but since your speaker does not work, check continuity - the two that show continuity are NOT the ones for the speaker - if you want a "quick fix" while waiting for the replacement jack, short the two pins that are currently open, and your speaker should come alive again. If you need to silence the speaker, put an empty plug into the external speaker jack. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/18/2011 11:18 AM, Curt wrote: > Thanks Don, > > Is the part number you mentioned for the entire jack? Another thing for Wayne's list, if it isn't already there: When the sub-receiver is switched on, the P3 does not compensate for the 3 dB splitter loss. Re: [Elecraft] [K2]Speaker Quit
Curt, The switch in the back part of the headphone jack (the switch that turns the speaker on/off) has a plastic lever on it which does break on occasion. Elecraft has tried unsuccessfully to have the manufacturer beef up that lever, but unfortunately, it has been to no avail. There is no other switch like it. Order Elecraft PN E620028 from pa...@elecraft.com The switch is made by Kirbiconn, if you want to look for it at Mouser or Digikey. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/18/2011 9:41 AM, Curt wrote: > Speaker quit functioning on K2 s/n 06424. [Elecraft] Elecraft K2 Rework Eliminator Kit.
For those building the K2, there is a K2 Rework Eliminator kit on Ebay. I have nothing to do with it; just thought it might be what some of you are looking for. 73, Fred, K3 2241, P3 100 " Do or Do-not. Those settings would then be 'applied' to whichever receiver(s) are using that input. Don has just shown exactly why this is needed, because it's the *antennas* that create the variations in signal levels and background noise. -- 73 from Ian GM3SEK http://www.ifwtech.co.uk/g3sek __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Bill, That's it. Good, I can use Hakko 936 tips. Or, I guess, a Hakko 936 owner can use CSI tips. Re: [Elecraft] K3_P3_160_CW
Ken, Maybe I'm missing something, but I would expect the noise floor to drop on a receiving antenna - assuming the RX antenna is a lower noise antenna than the transmit antenna - you are looking at the atmospheric noise and not the receiver noise floor. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/17/2011 3:21 PM, Ken Roberson wrote: > Wayne, > > While working 160M DX last winter I noticed that when I > Switch from RX antenna (Beverage) and back to TX antenna > That the base line (Noise floor) on the P3 was about 2 S unites > Less than when I changes to the RX antenna. > > With the default antenna ( TX antenna ) PreAmp = off and ATT = ON > Switch to RX antenna (with the preamp off) turn the preamp on and switch back > to normal antenna. > Now if you switch the preamp on and off, the base line will return to normal. > Hard for me to explain. > > Thanks Ken K5DNL > __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Biggest reason is the MS Word format isn't static. If you need hard copy, print the pages you need. -- R.
