Dom,

it's not available yet, thus the N/A. Still on the DSP firmware list of
Lyle. Last word was "might still take a few month's time" ...

Re: [Elecraft] MacLoggerDX vs RUMlog

2012-08-25 Thread David Ferrington, M0XDF
I've been using MLDX for a long time, before RumLog was available and never
really looked at RumLog, so no reasons really and can't say if one is better
than the other. MLDX/K3/KX3 integration is good. I understand RumLog has some
specific functions for K3, so I will give it a try someday.

RUMLog also uses SQLite db, and has a built-in custom query screen where
you can enter SQL.

My shack computer is getting a little "long in the tooth" and I am
 starting to
research a replacement machine. My current ham usage for the computer
 consists
of logging and some digital work, but future rig control could be
 something that
I would be interested in doing. Recent experience with a new iPad has

very positive impression for me regarding Apple products but I know that
 "in the

So my question is this - Are there now good choices available for ham radio
software (logging, digital, rig control) that will run on OSx computers?

BTW, I know that Linux is a popular operating system for ham radio these
 days
but I don't really know anything about it. I can certainly try to learn,
however the computer has other uses in the family and so I would need to
 be able
to easily switch it back into it's "standard" manufacturers configuration
 for my

Any and all opinions would be appreciated.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3/K3 Operating Tip: Working a pileup using dual watch instead of SPLIT

2012-08-25 Thread Dom M1KTA
Wayne,

It works the other way too (as in the reverse) when you are the DX station
:-) Listening to the all important TX freq is easy, especially when you hear
the policemen get involved.

You turn (ear drums allowing for loud stations) the filters wide
irrespective of mode (unless you have to alter) and turn the AGC off or set
the threshold high, turn RX eq off (set to max accross the board).

There are up to ten retries after this message. If all ten retries fail
(each would issue this message), then a further "NoResponseException" is
generated.
It appears that the first retry succeeded in your case.

WriteMemory2State.OnTimerExpiry

yet the memories always seem to be written correctly.

Should I be concerned with this error?

[Elecraft] OT: Mac Vs Windows

2012-08-25 Thread Chris Hembree
I would just like to add one thing. I switched over to a Mac book pro intel
duel core, 5 years ago. I just installed Mountain Lion about 2 weeks ago. (
only because I wanted  to.)
I always skip a year on upgrades. So I went from Snow to Mountain Lion.
Mountain Lion works great on my computer. I always do a new install by
formatting  the hard drive.
clean every thing out. This is a pain in the butt if you forget to save
anything. The install is much cleaner and works much better this way.

be turned on or off
*    Auto-notch (workaround: manual notch)
*    Extended single-sideband transmit (MENU:TX ESSB)

[Elecraft] Winner Announcement for TDiH Mountaintop Musical Chairs QRP Contest on Monte Sano

2012-08-25 Thread CRAIG W BEHRENS

Saturday, 8/18/12, eight intrepid QRPers competed in the Mountaintop Musical
Chairs QRP Contest on Monte Sano.
They competed in the Monte Sano State Park Campgrounds despite being tired from
a long day of Huntsville Hamfest activities and being stuffed full of Southern
BBQ and Gibson's fresh-baked pies.
The 40M/20M band conditions were less than sterling, to say the least. The
KX3's fed makeshift antennas and straight keys were used.
The total operating period for each team was a meager 30 minutes, or so.
And . . . Just about the time each team started to make contacts -- We made
them run 500' to the otter station for the last half of their allotted time.
Despite these handicaps, all four teams of two operators did a respectable job.
The contest results is as follows:

[Elecraft] FS: K3/100 with options (and a K2, too)

2012-08-25 Thread Andrew Moore
I told myself if the KX3 impressed me enough after I had a chance to
evaluate it, I'd make it my only rig. While it's not a substitute for a K2
or K3, it's the best blend of portability, performance, power consumption,
etc. for my needs.

So...

K2/10 with accessories $795
maineware.net/k2

K3/100 with accessories $1900
maineware.net/k3

[Elecraft] simple(st) panadapter for K3?

Can someone please tell me if there is a simple way, and if so: how, to make

Without buying a P3 or LP-Pan hardware that is. I'm looking for a simple and
more important cheap solution.

Re: [Elecraft] simple(st) panadapter for K3?

2012-08-25 Thread Matt Maguire
Well, it depends what you mean by the terms "simple" and "cheap".

You need to be able to get IF out -- I think you need a KXV3A modules for that.
Then you need an I/Q mixer to provide baseband I/Q signals for sampling by your
PC soundcard, the cheapest option probably being a softrock:
http://fivedash.com

A crystal-locked one is fine if you have a crystal close to the K3's IF, or
else a Si570 frequency-agile one is more expense but more flexible. You will
get some LO leakage out the antenna connection of the softrock, so you probably
want to build a buffer amplifier to provide some isolation. Of course, there is
more sophisticated high quality SDR hardware available in the marketplace, but
of course you pay more. You choose your compromises :-)

No you weren't, I just sold my Deluxe Buddipole. The name was
embroidered on the canvas bag it fit into, and all the documentation
said "Buddipole." It's a great field antenna. I sold mine after
several years of good use because of weight ... I've gotten attracted to
Summits on the Air [SOTA], I'm a little mobility challenged from
injuries in my 20's [The "Bulletproof and Immortal Period" in my life],
and I really needed to reduce the weight of my pack.

It's a great antenna, lots of possible configurations, really fun to
experiment with. I was sad as I shipped it off to Jon.

If you have one, go register at the Yahoo Buddipole Group. You will
enjoy the antenna[s], there's way more than one antenna with a buddipole.

OK, I guess I either didn't get the memo or didn't read it, this is why
I haven't found you on 40m recently. I'll check into NCN on 80 at 1900
PDT and then zip up to 40 and see if I can get in with the E-crowd.
I'll be gone at 1500 for the 20, probably couldn't hear you anyway.
