[Elecraft] squelch/mute on am/ssb

Lewis, go into the Menu, SQ-main. Then turn fully clockwise until '= Sub Pot' shows up. That will do the trick. (Ofcourse this is hidden in the manual in the CONFIG Menu part.) 73 Arie PA3A Op 16-5-2013 12:48, Lewis Hunter schreef: Is there anyway I can mute the receiver up to a certain signal strength. [Elecraft] KE7X KX3 book available
Greetings all. The KE7X KX3 book (The Elecraft KX3) is hot off the presses (or hot in the presses). It is now available from Lulu (www.lulu.com) or from KE7X (www.ke7x.com). This book follows the general approach taken by the KX3's big sibling's book for the K3. There are many schematics and diagrams for those who learn best by reading. Hands-on learners will enjoy working through exercises designed to illustrate the KX3's many features. There are two versions of the book. A full-size, 8.5 x 11 version is coil bound just like the K3 book. For portable operations, a portable-size, 6 x 9 coil-bound version is available. It has exactly the same information as the full size book (even the font size is the same). It is just formatted into the smaller size, which fits nicely into one of Rose's KX3 cases. KE7X can do a special order for those who would like a 3-hole punched book. This edition of The Elecraft KX3 has been published knowing that all features planned for the KX3 by Elecraft have not been implemented. We have attempted to cover those situations where features are known to be coming. As new information about new features becomes available, and as the inevitable errors are discovered, updates and corrections will be posted on the www.ke7x.com website. These will be freely available as pdf files on the website. When the KXPA100 100-W amplifier, the KXAT100 100-W antenna tuner, and the KX3-2M two meter transverter become available, a companion book covering these products will be published. Those ordering from Lulu may be able to use the discount code MAYBOOKS13 until the end of May for a 20% discount. Sorry, but I can't do that too. [Elecraft] K3 Mic connector options
I have been trying to get my CM500 headset running with my K3. Using the MH2 mic plugged into the front panel with MIC SEL to FP.L bias in the voice modes (AM, FM SSB, CS) while MIC SEL is set to rP.L bias for the DATA modes. MIC+LIN is set to On for all modes. This setup works well using VOX for transmitter keying in DATA and manually turning VOX off and using PTT when I run voice modes. (I'm mostly a DATA A and AFSK A operator.) If I plug the microphone from the CM500 into the rear panel of the K3, and change MIC SEL to rP.L bias, this division between voice modes and data mode no longer works. Noise in the shack keys the transmitter, and I assume is added to the output signal -- not good. So, my current plan, unless someone says, Hey Dummy!, is to build an interface box which plugs into the front panel MIC connector to route the audio from the CM500 to the K3. I can include a jack for a foot switch to do PTT and set it up so the MH2 is also available. (Thanks Don for the pointer to Universal Radio for the Mic connectors.) My questions are: What to do with the other 3 lines? I can add buttons to UP and DOWN lines to provide another way for tuning the radio, but what does the FUNCTION line do? And, can I parallel the Mic audio from the CM500 and the MH2 or would it be better to switch them? (Fewer switches and modes will make my wife, KI6SLX happier.) [Elecraft] K1 battery recommendations?
I've used a deep-cycle marine battery with my K-1 and had good results but now wish to find something lighter. I've a bunch of individual Li-ion cells and only need the special nickel straps to brew my own lightweight battery pack. I've got access to a cell spot welder and charger. I'd be grateful for a source of small amounts (2 feet would be more than enough) of the special nickel strap material. Be Well, 72, Tim K3HX Transformation of America? Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mic connector options
Bill, Why do you have MIC+LIN on? If you don't need that, turn it off, and set MIC SEL to line in for the digital modes, and RP.L bias for phone modes. 73, ~iain / N6ML On Thu, May 16, 2013 at 4:35 PM, Bill Frantz fra...@pwpconsult.com wrote: I have been trying to get my CM500 headset running with my K3. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mic connector options
MIC+LIN is set to On for all modes. *WHY* would you enable Mic+Line? Use Line for data modes and either FP.L or RP.L for voice modes. That way you will not get mic noise in the digital modes. 73, ... Re: [Elecraft] Pigknob
In this case, I got a direct reply from Nick, and I asked him some questions direct. I'm sensitive to the traffic load on this list and especially when it's about non-Elecraft products. If I see a few requests like Bill's, and the discussion is still going on, I'll post it to the list. I pretty much always post a summary of direct discussions and resolutions to things I've asked on the list. I've forwarded the conversation to date to Bill and will continue. I don't have a KX3, but I joined the Yahoo KX3 group because I was interested in a tiny aspect of the direct-conversion architecture. Joining may have been a big misteak ... way more traffic about redundant stuff than I really can go through. That one may soon head for the Deleted Box automagically. In my T-Bird, I can make the choice: Reply to Sender, Reply to All, Reply to List. For Elecraft, that works. For others ... not so much. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2013 Cal QSO Party 5-6 Oct 2013 - www.cqp.org On 5/16/2013 5:41 PM, Lynn W. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mic connector options
Bill, I would suggest that you can obtain a Heil Kenwood adapter that is used for the Elecraft ProSet-K2 (I forget the exact Heil designation) that will allow you to connect the CM500 mic - you will also need a 1/8 inch stereo female to 1/4 inch male adapter to match the headphone jack on the adapter. If using that adapter, you would need to unplug the MH2 and plug in the CM500 (with the adapter) and adjust the mic gain. OTOH, If you want to construct a box with a switch, that will work too. In any case, I would suggest you turn off MIC+LINE unless you are also using a computer to send pre-recorded messages. When you switch to digital modes, the mic sel should be set to LINE IN only - the audio input settings for SSB and digital modes are independent in the K3. 73, Don W3FPR On 5/16/2013 7:35 PM, Bill Frantz wrote: I have been trying to get my CM500 headset running with my K3.
