[Elecraft] KX3 Firmware upgrade
Good Day I am hoping someone can help me, I am having trouble down loading the latest version of firmware for my KX3. I have printed out the instructions and have followed them to the letter, however I can not find the .zip file. This is the first time I have had a problem, previous down loads have been successful, and I am getting the same results on my main computer and my laptop. Re: [Elecraft] OT: Wide digital QRM on 17m
WA8SRA asked: Does anyone have any idea what the ~20KHz wide digital mode QRM is at the bottom of 17m? It extends from about 18.054 to 18.076, and is a solid S9 strength here, and appears to be coming from Europe. I wasn't sure if it was local or not, but just had a cw QSO w/ an op in Spain who said it was very strong there as well. Re: [Elecraft] KDSP2 question
Yes, set the CW center frequencies closer to your CW IF center frequencies. IIRC, the center frequencies are in 50 Hz steps, so you will have to settle for 650 Hz or 700 Hz - but that will not make a lot of difference with a filter width of 100 Hz or greater. 73, Don W3FPR On 9/14/2013 11:53 PM, Eddy wrote: Put together my KDSP2 and worked first time out...still kinda missing the KAF2 but now I have some cool SSB filtering to play with!! Question, I've left all filters factory stock for now, on CW it notes the center freq is 600hz, however, I set my tone to 680hz, should I go into the KDSP2 CW filtering and change center freq to 680hz? Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft SSB Net Announcement
I know it would take a few more net control volunteers, but the Collins Collectors Association net on 14.263, Sundays at 2000Z usually has at least two net controls located at (more-or-less) opposite ends of the country. They start with buy/sell/swap and then take check-ins by call area, starting with 1,2,3,4. Then 8, 9, 0, 7, 6. This attempts to follow the general propagation on 20 M and they stress that you check-in from the area your are transmitting from rather than your call. Mobiles, DX, and QRP stations are given priority and are specifically listened for every few minutes, taken anytime, anywhere. Admittedly, I just heard about the Elecraft net, so I don't know how long it runs, or whether this format would be practical. The CCA net is one of the oldest running Equipment Specific nets and if on a non-Super-Bowl or obnoxious contest weekend, can run over 4 hours. This puts us at 8PM EDST, so propagation must be taken into account. I have, on many occasions, checked in with my KX3 barefoot and gotten great signal reports not to mention some incredulous comments about signal strength. As you might expect, most 100 watt and up ops can't believe you can actually make contacts running 10 watts. (You don't have to be running Collins, just have an interest in it.) I might add that I do NOT have any spectacular antenna either, just a little Cush-Craft LPDA at 55 feet. As a slightly off topic comment, I didn't have any luck trying to check in a couple weeks ago with the KX3 and a 6 foot diameter Mag-Loop, but conditions were not good either(sour grapes). 73, Charlie k3ICH __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] DIGOUT1 DVR PTT OUT
Hi fellows, I am dealing with and issue related to the Interlocking 2 K3 for our next CQWW Adventure in D4C. The main problems, that i am encountering are the follow : I have builded, a footswitch interlock, between two K3, and easy 2 relay Xcrossed switch, both FSwitch avoid that the other one TX the proper K3, and i have added a logic for enable the INH of the proper inactive Radio. Everything work as expect, even when u use the internal K3 DVR, where u don't have a separate PTT line from the DVR that can be used to acknowledge that the DVR has been asserted and that can be as the FSwitch to interlock the secondary Radio. The only way to know that the DVR is ON is to use the K3 PPT OUT, but i need to interlock first that the radio TX not after . The DVR memory are played within macro developed in WintTest, so i am thinking to use the DIGOUT1 as DVR PTT, using proper command MN19 in the DVR macro, allowing, trough a PNP BJT and a Relay to simulate a Fswitch press, that can be connected to my interlock board. I had look at for any unofficial DIGOUT1 application other then switch on the PR6, but no luck Any suggestion or advise ? [Elecraft] solved problem - decoding CW with signalink usb and HRD and P4 processor
thanks to ……. rick wa6nhc …. who said I use a Celeron Dual core with XP in the shack. Audio input level has a LOT to do with how well HRD (DM-780) decodes. My K3 LIN OUT setting is 2 (almost off), the SignaLink knob is at noon and the XP sound driver is maxed out. My audio level is rarely above 1% on the lower display of DM-780. Then you have to use the narrowest filter you can to give the sound card as much clean audio as you can. Follow that with the 'squelch' slider on the top of the display (QSO tab, not skimmer) peaking only on actual signal and you'll find that DM-780 can do well with machine sent code. If there is any swing or run on or faint signals, it quits quickly. That's just another example of how Elecraft does things SO much better. Between my ability, the K3 and DM-780 I can at least get the gist of the conversation. ;o) and, i am now in business, with psk31 and cw, what more can one ask for? maybe RTTY, LOL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Morning, After an unseasonably warm week it is back to normal again:rain, fog, and cool. Currently it is booming outside so all the antennas are unplugged. Two thunderstorms in less than two weeks is very unusual. Propagation has been decent though. All of the talk about net procedures is very good. It would be nice to have an NCS on either side of the country. At one point we did have three net controls who worked stations by call area. That was when propagation was much better than it is now. Unfortunately Tom has left us and propagation has gone with him. I may need to rewrite the net procedure list I wrote a few years back and post it. The Elecraft net previous to mine lasted only a year. I tried a number of times to check in but never was able to be heard. Even with the 100 watt amplifier my K2 could not make it to the net control station in Louisiana. Within a month of those attempts I started the CW net in June of 2002. Over the years I have been skunked only once. Some weeks it has been tough going but I always get some participation. Now that there are many more Elecraft rigs around, including those with external amplifiers, the voice net has been revived and is doing well. Please try your hand at CW folks, it is a lot of fun. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP relay help) Sunday 2200z (Sunday 3 PM PDT) 14050 kHz Monday 0100z (Sunday 6 PM PDT) 7045 kHz Stay well, Kevin. Please remember to download the latest utility software first. Wayne sent a note out ( i think) saying this is required. Didn't see any note, but there again, I've been busy. I was going to ask why the KX3Utility (V1.13.4.29) fails with the FTP login bit (Windows and Linux) but was distracted doing headless chicken impressions before traveling over here for work, so never got round to it. So, I just went to the Beta link, and up one directory/folder, and pulled the wanted files manualy, placing them where the utility expects, and it did the job. Re: [Elecraft] KX1: Can I Improve Opposite Sideband Rejection?
Hi Kurtt, We used a 3-crystal filter in the KX1 so its passband could be varactor-diode tuned from CW to SSB bandwidths with an acceptable amount of passband ripple. While it would be possible to use 4 crystals, shoehorning them in would be tricky, and a more complex varactor-tuning circuit would be required. 73, Wayne N6KR On Sep 15, 2013, at 7:08 PM, Kurt Pawlikowski ku...@pinrod.com wrote: Hi, Just a quick question: Can the opposite sideband rejection of the KX1 be improved? Re: [Elecraft] This Sunday's Elecraft SSB net - THANKS!
I second Dave's thanks. I responded to one relay operator who couldn't copy my K3/10 (at 12W) working through a 2 element wire beam at 8 meters pointed from the SF bay towards Rhode Island[1]. Another relay operator kindly copied my checkin and passed it on. Thanks to both ops. Re: [Elecraft] KX1: Can I Improve Opposite Sideband Rejection?
Can the opposite sideband rejection of the KX1 be improved? The receiver is sensitive enough, but, when I have a strong signal, as I tune by it, I can hear the signal on both sides of the BFO. That's characteristic of the KX1, which uses a 3-pole crystal filter network in its IF. The K1 has much better opposite sideband rejection because it has a four-pole crystal filter network. I supposed one could re-design the KX1 to add an extra IF crystal. I wish that had been part of the original design. I think it's an important performance attribute, even on small QRP rigs. It costs so very little in terms of space, PCB real estate, and cost of parts. It does make a noticeable difference.
