Re: [Elecraft] K3 SSB audio got lost

2013-10-24 Thread Tommy
Now I am in real trouble!!

This morning when I turned on my K3, in hopes of being able to perform some
positive troubleshooting on my lost USB and LSB rcvr audio, I went to the
20m SSB band and lo and behold my USB rcvr audio is NOW WORKING!!
I have done nothing to my K3 except for having gone over the menu
configurations numerous times, so I don't know what caused the problem nor
what fixed it. A worrisome result - but it's now working!

Many thanks to all who offered helpful suggestions.they were all greatly
appreciated.

Tom - W4BQF

No, sorry; it's implemented in hardware. But I think once you're used to using
the combination you won't even need to think about it.

That doesn't work if you're using APF, which I always use for weak signals.
APF is linked to the actual PITCH setting. I also use 200 Hz filters in
diversity and 30 Hz away from their center would attenuate signals.

Thanks to all asking about my filter configuration.

I have my 2.7kc/1.0kc/0.5kc/0.3kc filters all enabled for CW/ LSB/ USB/ and

And to clarify my original post, I am talking about receive audio and not

Is it possible that your 2.7/2.8 Khz filter is not selected for SSB in the

I am having a configuration issue that I have spent hours trying to figure
out and need some help please.

As a CW person, I seldom operate SSB and I am trying to get set up for this
weekend's CQWW SSB test. Below are some of my configuration for my K3 and
the attached are jpg configuration sheets from K3 EZ. In any band in the SSB
portion, I have no audio output any time I am in the USB or LSB mode,
however if I change from USB to CW, I have normal audio but of course I
can't copy the SSB signals. This is true whether I have my SUB turned on or
not. I have my CM-500 headset plugged into the rear of my K3 and I have the
RS20S headset plugged into the front panel PHONES jack and I have no audio
with either or both of the headsets plugged in. With both headsets removed,
I have no speaker audio in the SSB mode, but normal audio in the CW or AM
mode.

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In CONFIG I have:

SPKRS = 1
SPKR+PH = YES
L-MIX-R = A b

Thanks for your input and 73,

Tom - W4BQF

PS: I have been trying to configuration pictures from K3-EZ but nothing is
getting onto the reflector.

Also I installed firmware MCU1.61/DSP1.23 .For those who use AM,which is

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - SSB audio get lost !

Tom,

The reflector strips off any attachments (it also does not accept HTML).
If you can put the information you are trying to attach onto a website,
give us a link to it, otherwise we will not see it.

The other possibility is to put the information in plain text and then
you can post it as part of your email.

I don't have any immediate easy answers for your problem, sorry. The
only thing that occurs to me is some problem with the filters configured
for receive.

Re: [Elecraft] Changing CW pitch on K2

2013-10-24 Thread Don Wilhelm

Eddy,

The answer is "maybe". If you are changing only by a small amount, then
you will not have to realign the filters.

If you change the pitch by a goodly amount, then the answer is yes.

Look at it this way - if you have the most narrow filter set for a
center frequency of 600 Hz and the filter width is 200 Hz, that filter
will reproduce a frequency of 500 Hz to 700 Hz and still be within the
bandpass (although the extreme frequencies will be on the edge of the
filter bandpass). If your change is greater than that range, you will
want to re-align the filters.

I would suggest that if you are experimenting with your preferred CW
pitch, you should not change the filter alignment, but after you settle
on a given pitch, then align the filters to center at that pitch.

If you have the KAF2 or KDSP2 installed, I would strongly recommend that
you adjust the center frequencies for those options to your new chosen
CW pitch.

For information about setting the filters to your chosen pitch, refer to
Part 3 of the K2 Dial Calibration article on my website www.w3fpr.com.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA 500 curious behavior

2013-10-24 Thread Jack Brindle
Bob;

Stopped displaying it on the LEDs, LCD (when selected) or both?

Most likely the transmitter is not outputting more than 25 watts on that band,
so it is below the minimum threshold needed to display this info.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500-K3 Aux cable

2013-10-24 Thread Don Wilhelm

Jim,

I shudder when you said "SVGA cables".
You need to start with cables that connect all 15 pins straight
through. "SVGA cables" have several pins connected together and should
not be used.

You have the right source, but I believe CableWholesale.com has both
straight through 15 pin cables and SVGA cables. Make certain you have
the correct cables.

[Elecraft] k3 - JT65

2013-10-24 Thread Gene

Problem solved.
Thanks to Bob, WB4SON and Bill, W0BBI, JT65 is now running well on my
desk top computer with Win7.

To make a long story short my main problems were, (A) Line - In plug at
the K3 had to be Mono, ( I had used Stereo on my lap top). (B) Cable
from line-in had to go to speaker, green jack on the computer.
Line-out cable at K3 to Mic, blue jack on computer. (C) Windows 7 shut
down my Prolific USB to Serial converter but got it back ok. Don't know
why this happened but will keep an eye out for this. (D) Make sure the
com port you set in the setup page of JT65 is same as the USB to serial
converter you are using.

Thank you all.

OOPS I missed that. The manual clearly says DO NOT US SVGA CABLES . They are
not wired straight through. You must use straight-through cables.

[Elecraft] Simultaneous receive and transmit (semi-OT)

2013-10-24 Thread Pete Smith N4ZR
Someone just called my attention to a QST product review of the
FTDX-9000 8 years ago in which that radio is said tobe capable of SO2R
in one box - simultaneous transmitting and receiving. I had always
assumed that this wasn't possible does to interaction during transmit,
since the K3 doesn't do it. Am I wrong, either about the FTDX-9000 or
in general?
