[Elecraft] K3 + SLUSB + Mac = JT9 Help Needed
Hi All - I know this is a stretch but I'm wondering if there are any folks on this reflector who are using a Mac computer with their K3, a SignaLink USB, and have had success with the installation and operation of WSJT-X for Mac OS? I'd like to run JT9 and if possible, avoid having to run the Windows version under VMware Fusion and Windows XP. There is a native OS X version of WSJT-X; I've downloaded it and followed the installation instructions. I can get the program to start up but this is my first exposure to WSJT and I'm pretty lost. I'd like to have the K3's frequency displayed on the WSJT screen, but I'm kinda (no, totally) lost as to how to set up the configuration, especially in the CAT area. Jeeze, the first steps into a new mode like this certainly are a wakeup call as to how far behind the curve one is...! :-( Please reply on or off list if you can help. [Elecraft] KX3 IQ using NaP3
Greetings All I am trying to set up my KX3 to produce a band scope/waterfall display using NaP3 (v2.2.4.3). My system includes a laptop running Win 7 Home Premium with a Intel Core i3 CPU at 1.33 GHz with 4.00 (3.68usable) GB of memory and a 64-bit OS. The modem I use is a USB E-Mu 0204 with the ASIO drivers supplied with the E-Mu 0204. The ASIO drivers appear to work better than the MME drivers. I have 3 questions-- 1. Do I need to set up frequency or global offsets.? I cannot find any reference in the KX3 manual or Fred's wonderful little book. My experience is that NaP3 appears to ignore offset values for the KX3. 2. Do I need to worry about the balance between the I and Q channels. My under standing is NaP3 does that, using WBIR. Furthmore, when I play with the input levels on the E-Mu 2040, the display reacts, and then returns to where it was. 3. How does WBIR work? I am not convinced that I understand how to set up WBIR, and whether or not it is actually working for me. My displays is full of images and other noise, and the strong stations that I know are there are not visible. A couple of observations-- I use commercial AM radio stations (730, 980 and 1040 KHz) to do the training, but I have problems ridding the display of images. Also, I cannot see the AM stations on the band scope (perhaps I can on the waterfall, but I suspect it is mostly my imagination). But, when I click on the frequency, it centres and I can see the station, but not other stations. This is often true on SSB, as well. My real success occurred when I left my station on while I went for lunch and did not get back to it for a couple or so hours. Most of the images were gone, even when I switched to 80M SSB. Also stations started appear on both the scope and waterfall. I have not been able to repeat this success. So, it does not appear that NaP3 had not saved WBIR adaption. When I started up my system the following day, I was back to my issues. I am looking for suggestions as to how to properly setup this system. I know it is possible, since I did it once. [Elecraft] Problems with CW sidetone
I have some problems with my CW sidetone. When a strong (enormous) noise or QRM occurs then my sidetone through QSK sounds too soft, rounded, which complicates CW operation 40 wpm. I dislike semi-QSK, I would prefer QSK with more distinguished sidetone with sharp edges (~ more clicky), my aging ears also need a bit more volume. However if you are attempting to key the K3 on the serial CAT port, you need to do the following: 1. Set Wintest to send CW on RTS 2. In the PTT-KEY menu on the K3 [TECH MD has to be ON], set it to put CW on rtS. You can also set up PTT on DTR if you want semi-QSK, I run full QSK and don't use the PTT signal, and I key the K3 with a WinKeyUSB keyer. if you're using an external keyer, Wintest will need to know the COM port number of the keyer and to direct CW to that port. Re: [Elecraft] (no subject)
There are plenty of programs that already do this, such as TRX Manager, DXLabs, HRDalthough this particular one seems to handle the audio as well so you would not need to mess with skype audio. These all require a computer to be running on both sides of the connection I think. With something like a Lantronics serial to ethernet device (two serial ports) you can connect your radio on one end and use any of the loggers/control programs remotely just as if you were in the shack. 73 Greg On Mon, Dec 23, 2013 at 12:57 PM, KQ8M k...@kq8m.com wrote: That's great now if it only supported Elecraft radios. Re: [Elecraft] K3 and WinTest CW setup
Fred, as far as N1MM Logger is concerned you have DTR and RTS backwards. N1MM Logger supports CW keying on DTR of a serial port but not on RTS, whereas it supports PTT switching on either DTR or RTS. If you want to use CW keying on the K3's radio control port, you would configure N1MM Logger to use DTR on that port for CW, and set the K3's CONFIG:PTT-KEY to OFF-DTR. If you also want to use that port for hardware TX/RX switching, you would also configure N1MM Logger to use RTS on the same port for PTT, and set the K3's CONFIG:PTT-KEY to RTS-DTR. I don't know whether Wintest supports CW keying on the same serial port that is used for radio control (not all software supports this capability). If it does, the above configuration should work. If it does not, you can connect a simple keying interface (transistor keying circuit) between another serial port (or USB-to-serial adapter) and the K3's Key In jack, again using DTR for CW, and RTS for PTT if desired, and configure the software to use that second serial port for CW and/or PTT. In this case you would set the K3's CONFIG:PTT-KEY to OFF-OFF, and set DTR and RTS in the configuration for the radio control COM port to Always Off. For a more flexible and powerful solution, you can connect a K1EL Winkeyer or WKUSB between the computer and the K3's Key In jack and configure the software to use that. It will be on a different COM port than the radio control port. 73, Rich VE3KI Fred Jensen wrote: I use N1MM and have no experience setting up Wintest. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: Speakers audio is gone
The main board already has capacitors between the audio amplifier and speaker switching on the KIO3 board. The capacitors - C2 and C3, 470 uF each - don't prevent accidental overload of the audio amplifier if the output is shorted. With an impedance of less than 0 - j0.5 Ohms at 1 KHz, they simply can't do the job. The smart thing to do would be to replace L14 and L16 on the KIO3 Audio IO Board with 1.2 Ohm to 2.2 Ohm resistors. Although 2.2 Ohms would result roughly 2dB less maximum output (with 4 Ohm speakers), the slight decrease would certainly be worthwhile to protect the audio amplifier. 73, ... Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: Speakers audio is gone
Enough drama already. For $1.99 I bought the recommended Radio Shack P/N 274-0375 1/8 dual mono jack to 1/8 stereo Y-adapter. Now I can op my stereo head set and play the current mono speaker w/o smoking the radio. It does fit the I/O board with everything next to it occupied. I decided to go that route rather than making up a special purpose dual mono cable stereo plug. I have a second receiver and plan stereo speakers. Now at will I can add a second unit and just plug it into the adapter. Or, just run one in Contests, DX, or at Field Day for bystanders. Speakers + Phone = Yes and all work plus AFX. Press off on the speaker (IC SP 20) and it's headset only. For the price of the adapter, it or similar should come with the radio and end this potential 'short and warning label' nonsense. Not everybody is like me and lives a mile from a parts supplier, and new owners may not be aware of the potential for damage until... 73, Gary NL7Y -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Speakers-audio-is-gone-tp7581916p7581975.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: Speakers audio is gone
Hi Gary: On the Radio Shack website, it's now priced at 97 cents and that means that it's being closed out. So, if someone needs that item, now is the time to try to get it. 73 de Ray K2ULR On Dec 23, 2013, at 10:46 PM, Gary NL7Y wrote: Enough drama already. [Elecraft] No Subject emails
Hi Guys, Just to let you know that I get concerned when I see emails to the list with no subject. I have had quite a few malicious emails from members whose accounts have been hacked so that when I see No subject in Mailwasher, I just delete them without opening. I do not wish to cause offence, but I can not take the risk, especially with Cryptolocker ransomware around. Seasons greetings to all Kevin VK3DAP / ZL2DAP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] [KX3] Morse Practice
I've just received my KX3 Morse key. Now, I'm only just learning Morse so my Morse is horrible and often gaps appear which are longer than the word gaps the decoder is expecting. As soon as this happens the VOX B display almost immediately changes from decoding characters to displaying frequency. This is a little off putting although obviously the KX3 is telling me my Morse is horrible. Is there a way of setting a delay so this does not happen so frequently, or better still to stop it switching back at all to frequency while I'm practicing?
