[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report
Good Evening, Conditions lately have not been great. QSB is constant which is an oxymoron. The noise level is not very high but neither are the signal levels so it's a wash. The sun continues its inactivity. I was not able to get to last week's net report so we'll start with that. On 14050.5 kHz at 2200z August 11, 2019 K6XK - Roy - IA We exchanged information on our respective J-38s. K4TO - Dave - KY Was doing alright with a decent signal too. On 7047.5 kHz at z August 12, 2019 K6PJV - Dale - CA Told me he would be celebrating his mother's 100th birthday this week W6JHB - Jim - CA Jim also told me he would be gone this week. On 14050.5 kHz at 2200z August 18, 2019 NO8V - John - MI Reported normal August weather for lower Michigan: hot and muggy. AB9V - Mike - IN K6XK - Roy - IA Reported perfect weather - 72 degrees in Iowa in August is pretty nice. K0DTJ - Brian - CA Brian also said he would be gone next week On 7047.5 kHz at z August 19, 2019 K0DTJ - Brian - CA Fog rolled in and the temperature dropped WM5F - Dwight - ID Now back to reading my cases of Analog SF from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Spider Robinson, Joe Delaney, Jerry Pournelle, Joe Haldeman, Harlan Ellison, Isaac Azimov, P. J. Plauger, Tak Hallus, Roger Zelazny, and many, many more. I don't think I have read these after I first got them. Fun. Until next week stay well, 73, Kevin. Re: [Elecraft] K2 Front Panel Resistance Check Readings :(
What are you seeing on your DMM display? Many DMMs show a blank display for an infinite resistance, while others show a "+" and others show "OL". Look at your DMM display when the leads are separated. That is infinite resistance. If the display actually shows "0", (same as with the leads shorted together) then that is a short circuit (zero ohms) that needs to be investigated. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/18/2019 6:53 PM, W0CD wrote: Don, Thanks. Re: [Elecraft] KXPA100 Question
Should have searched on Nabble first. Finally found some discussion of this PX3 cursor lag issue when running a KXPA100 back in 2017. Elecraft apparently recognized it as a bug, and talked about a fix, but I guess nothing has been forthcoming. I fiddled with it a bit, and really didn’t notice any major changes in how the PX3 controls function. Not that there aren’t any. Re: [Elecraft] KXPA100 Question
Grant, Something else I've noticed since getting the KXPA100 is the Select knob on the PX3 gets flaky if it's turned too fast. It seems to work fine if you turn it slowly. For instance when setting the Ref Level if the Select control is turned very fast the display just jitters and doesn't change the level. But when turned at a very slow rate the level changes appropriately. I didn't notice this behavior before I put the KXPA in line. You might try that and let me know what happens. Re: [Elecraft] K2 Front Panel Resistance Check Readings :(
James, I would not worry about the reading at J1 pin 15, but the others indicate a problem. I do not know of your soldering skills, but it would seem that your solder is bleeding over enough to contact the ground plane that surrounds the connector and other solder pads on the board. If you have a solder blob on any of the pins, that could be the problem. Use solder wick to remove excess solder on the entire front panel board and reflow the solder using only a minimal amount of solder. See the soldering tutorial on the Elecraft website to tell you what a good solder connection looks like. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/18/2019 1:48 PM, W0CD wrote: I'm running into a problem with the resistance checks for the K2 Front Panel Board.
