[Elecraft] WTB: 73CNC VFO Knob for K3

2021-03-22 Thread Edward via Elecraft
I have a knob I am trying to replace. This particular knob is heavy and does
NOT have a spinner. Solid black.

Have one to sell? Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] Rothammels Antenna Book

2021-03-22 Thread donovanf
Hi Lyn,

Its an excellent antenna book but its more of a reference book than
a "how to" book. Its definitely not an alternative to the ARRL
Antenna Book. If you don't have either book, for most hams the
ARRL Antenna Book is the better first investment .

This 1500-page publication has been cited as the "greatest book ever" on
antennas. Is that true?

Anyone with firsthand experience, how does it compare to the ARRL Antenna
Book (or others)?

Antenna tuners do not make antennas work better, they simply help the rig
provide power to the feedline by matching the feedline to the rig.
If the tuner is getting you below 2:1 for the antennas you use, the only
thing a different tuner will do is transfer money from your pocket to
someone else's.

I absolutely concur with Walter-a simple wire antenna will be easier to setup
and use,and with the exceptional internal tuner of the KX2 there’s no reason to
spend for anything else. Although it’s not as efficient the AX1/AEX1 might be
worth considering as it may be easy to setup for you depending on your
situation.

Re: [Elecraft] WSJTX settings

2021-03-22 Thread Rick NK7I
That depends on which logging program too, N1MM (and others) for example
assumes control of the radio.  In those cases, they cannot be running if
you want native WSJT-X to control the rig.

I use HRD for control and logging; within WSJT-X I have HRD set as the
rig (so even if I switch to another radio, it still works too).  WSJT-X
can also load directly into the logging program of HRD (if you use for
example Win3K3 for rig control with HRD logging).  They all play nicely
together.

With the KX2 ATU, save your money and don’t get the MPAS Lite.

Use the setup described on page 10 of the KX2 manual, two wires connected to a
double binding post adapter on the radio. That will be lighter, cheaper, and

Re: [Elecraft] KX2 tx low power on 80M SSB

2021-03-22 Thread Nate Jedinak
Elecraft indicated this behavior pointed to a failure in the output block.
Since Elecraft has mine now for repair of this issue, we will get a definitive
answer as to whether this is firmware or hardware.

[Elecraft] Rothammels Antenna Book

2021-03-22 Thread Lyn Norstad
This 1500-page publication has been cited as the "greatest book ever" on
antennas. Is that true?

Anyone with firsthand experience, how does it compare to the ARRL Antenna
Book (or others)?

Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 frequency entry

2021-03-22 Thread Lyn Norstad
Interesting, and something I've never encountered. Is that a "non-SDR"
limitation? Seems reasonable that it would be.

On my Icom, I've always been able to enter a frequency to the third decimal
place (i.e.: 14.303.567).

Subject: [Elecraft] K3 frequency entry

I try to enter the elecraft net 20m frequency directly; I push the FREQ
ENT button, then 14.303500 and it only accepts 14.303; if I try 14.303.5
it does the same thing.

Am I trying it wrong, or is it just not possible, or do I have something
set wrong?

Thanks & 73 de Dave, W5SV
