[Elecraft] Configuring DXLabs Suite, Win4K3 and K3 for FT8 etc.

2021-11-08 Thread Brian Deuby
I'm interested in getting my feet wet in WSJT digital modes, but don't
know how to configure my K3, DXLabs Suite and Win4K3 to do this. I've
checked the K3 manual, Fred Cady's more detailed K3 book and poked
around the DXLabs and Win4K3 sites, but don't see how to get started.
Can anyone direct me to a good source(s) of information on this?

Re: [Elecraft] HD8R

2021-11-08 Thread Graydon Jensen
Check out when the first contact is 26/10/2021 They are using the European
date style (day / month / year). With that in mind, the last contact in the
log is 8-Nov-2021. I did a double take on the dates, before I figured out what
they were doing.

I'm in the log for a contact yesterday (ATNO) - but not my contact during the
CQ WW SSB contest.

According to their online log their last QSO was 08/11/2021@ 0237.

They operated on 33 slots (band/modes). Some of these were impossible for many
of us: Satellite, 6-meters, 60-meter CW & SSB where they didn't listen in US
channels (didn't stop some lids from working them) and 160 SSB, where they made
10 QSOs. I missed them on 20 RTTY, where they operated once, as best as I can
determine. Otherwise, I worked them on the other 26 slots. Number 42 on the NA
leaderboard.

Worked them the other day with my Kx2 but to a random wire. Did it while
on the job--called for several hours, But very satisfying.

Plus it seems that they have very good operation.

Re: [Elecraft] K2 new kit question

2021-11-08 Thread Don Wilhelm

James,

It is not  likely to be a problem, but check any that are on the
bottom.  If they are too high to clear the bottom cover, just bend  them
over a bit.  Replace the ones with the cracked bodies.

Good morning everyone.

The question I do have is, the capacitors (101) tan in color, have the legs
bend in a zigzag pattern. When I tried to straighten them I ended up cracking
the ceramic insulation on them. So I replaced them and installed all of them
without straightening the legs. That of course put them a bit tall on the
board. The manual states to install all components as close to the board as
possible, to avoid stray RF coupling on the board.
Do you all think the way I installed them is going to be an issue? And how
would I be able to tell if it is a issue?

Thank you for all the help I have received so far from this group.

Re: [Elecraft] 2nd RX Removal

2021-11-08 Thread Rajiv Dewan
Many instructions for options, such as filters, include directions on how to
temporarily remove the second RX. To permanently revive it, you would need the
instructions for the second RX installation and reverse it. You would need to
find all the odds and ends including the back plate to completely reverse it.

Re: [Elecraft] K2 new kit question

2021-11-08 Thread Victor Rosenthal 4X6GP

Don't straighten them!
Back about a hundred years ago when I built my K2 #725, I caused an
invisible open circuit failure in one of those capacitors as a result of
straightening the leads. It wasn't easy to find. Don't do what I did.

I think you just have to read the instruction manual for installing it and work
