Re: [Elecraft] K3 MCU LD

2022-04-03 Thread Josep Torres via Elecraft
Hi guys,

New to this list. Been suggested by a fellow ham.

I have a K3 that get stuck while trying a firmware/software update.
Problem is that seems to be no communication between the PC (WIN7) and the K3
as I get a message of “K3 is not responding”.

I use a Serial to USB cable and have been told that not all cables work. This
morning I will try to buy another one and try again. If this doesn’t recover’s
the K3 from MCU stuck, I will have to sent it to Italy to Official Service to
get recovered from them. Of course this is the most expensive solution, but the
only way I see to get it back to life.
So, what do you recommend for such a cable so PC and K3 can communicate.?

Thanks,

73,

Josep

I disagree, and I'm an audio guy. All you need is a properly wired
adapter. and adjustment of TXEQ to compensate for the fact that pro mics
are usually flat. But nowadays, nearly all the boom mics small enough to
use are electrets, including the CM500. And PRO electret mics won't work
with ham gear -- the powering method is very different.

Just about any headset with an electret or dynamic boom mic will work
with a suitable cable adapter to split the TRRS in the KX3 into a TRS
for the phones and a TRS for the mic. My favorite is a Yamaha CM500, but
the phones may be much larger than you want to carry. I suggest that you
study boom-mic headsets made for gamers, because selling to a very large
market makes them cheaper. There are lots of smaller headsets, but it's
mostly a matter of comfort. You may be able to look them over online,
and/or in a music store.

In addition to Yamaha, some good brands are Shure, Audio-Technica,
Sennheiser, and Beyer.

[Elecraft] Boom mounted Mike for a KX3

2022-04-03 Thread John Pierce via Elecraft
I have a Kx3, because I can take it to the field. But most of the time I
use it at the home shack. I recently got an amp to use with the KX3, but I
am getting tired of using the elecraft hand mike. I have a boom mount for
a microphone, but am finding out that the KX3 does not handle a dynamic
microphone well. So my dilemma for a dynamic mike seems to be: 1- adding
a mixing board that will boost the output of the dynamic mike to acceptable
levels for the KX3. 2 - Getting an inline mike amp and a 48v power supply
to run the inline amp. The mixing board solution would work, but I don't
have the desk space for it. For a condenser microphone solution, it would
need to operate off the 3v bias voltage from the KX3. Does anyone have
ideas of how to solve my dilemma?. Any solution would be a mike that will
mount on my boom mike arm.

John, AD2F

Page 47 =

K3S Firmware Self-Test
If the K3S detects an error in its firmware (an incorrect checksum), it
will flash the TX LED and show MCU LD on the LCD (with backlight off). If
this occurs, connect the K3S to your computer and reload firmware. While
firmware is loading, the Delta-F LED (∆f) will flash. When the download is
complete, the K3S should reset and run normally.

Forcing a Firmware Download
If you accidentally load an old or incompatible firmware version and find
the K3S unresponsive, do the following: (1) unplug the K3S from the power
supply and wait 5 seconds; (2) plug the power supply back in; (3) hold the
transceiver’s POWER switch in; after about 10 seconds, you’ll see the TX
LED flash (you’ll also see MCU LD on the LCD); (4) load the correct
firmware version.

Good Luck!!

things, but I'm not sure "how many people are ahead of me in the queue" is
the right question -- I'd guess they build in batches and many delays are
less "there are 42 radios ahead of you" and more "we're waiting on this one
part for this board before we can finish and ship this batch of 50” or
perhaps "we're finishing this batch of 50 and then we have two more batches
and then yours but also parts availability is a crapshoot".

In any case, I wish you a speedy delivery, and Elecraft safe and healthy
employees and plentiful parts inventory.

Julie

[Elecraft] K4 Delivery delay

2022-04-03 Thread Sam Sargent via Elecraft

I readthe Elecraft (EC) Digest regularly and find many articles interesting,
and someuseful.  The topic“K4 and Delivery Delays” has appeared recently but I
didn’t see anyone ask thequestions that are in my mind.  I placedmy order for a
K4D in December 2021 and paid the $1500 deposit.  I received an email
acknowledgment from ECsaying that my order is part of the group 3. The EC web
site indicates that all orders for K4s in group 1 and Group 2have been shipped,
and that hams who are in Group 3 have received emails.  IMHO EC should provide
more information tohams who have ordered K4s, especially those of us who have
invested theoptional $1500. I believe that the ESD for the H4D that I ordered
was lastprojected as June or July 2022.  In thisday of digital communication,
it does not seem like too much to ask that ECprovide hams who have ponied up
the $1500, receive regular (monthly) updatesthat show how many orders are in
the que ahead of theirs, and an updatedEstimated Delivery date, and final cost.
I look forward to a thoughtful answer to myquestions. N1OVA

[Elecraft] Field Use of the Elecraft KX2

2022-04-03 Thread Michael Parsons
Hi all,

Just recently subscribed to the mailing list and wanted to drop a quick note. I
got my Elecraft KX2 off of a ham from the Washington state area last summer and
it has been an excellent addition to my operations.

I’ve done 12 Summits On The Air activations and over 65 Parks On The Air
activations in 10 different states since getting the KX2. I’ve used the AX1
antenna and the AXE 40m extension as well as a PackTenna Mini 9:1 EFRW for most
of them.

I just started doing some antenna reviews for MFJ as well and have had both
issues and successes with them all.

I will include a link to my Ham Radio YouTube channel where I post all of those
videos.

Thanks and 73,

Mike (K0FYR)

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Issue

2022-04-03 Thread David Woolley
Key clicks don't require non-linearity. They are the result of
modulating with a signal that has an infinite bandwidth, because of the
sharp transitions at leading and trailing edges. That results in
infinite side bands. (Actually any signal that communicates information
in finite time will have infinite side bands, but by correct shaping you
can make them very small.)

Actually, it is 100% amplitude modulation of a carrier by a rectangular

signal chain and produce intermodulation distortion that is heard as
clicks.
