Your indignation is completely misplaced.  Read the thread title. He's
trying to interface to a KAT500, and last I checked Elecraft makes those.

[Elecraft] [KAT500] Mac KAT500 Utility Software Issue

2022-05-05 Thread Scott Ririe via Elecraft
I’m a relatively new owner of a new KAT500 and KPA500 Power Combo. I’m also an
Apple Mac user. When changing bands, the amp has been faulting. I then re-tune,
put amp back in ‘Oper’ mode and I’m good until I change bands again. I reached
out to support and they had me check the ‘Amp Key Interrupt Pwr’ setting on the
tuner via the KAT500 Utility Software. It appears to have been set to ‘1’
instead of ‘Optimize the KPA500’ @ 1500 watts. The interesting thing is that
every time I click ‘Optimize the KPA500’ button, do an ‘apply’ and then ‘ok’,
and when I come back into that menu it was always reset to back to ‘1’. Very
odd!

I decided to install the Windows version of the KAT500 Utility Software on
another computer. When using the windows version, the ‘Optimize the KPA500’
setting sticks and no more faults on the amp when I change bands. It looks like
there may be a defect in the Mac version of the KAT500 utility.

Any of you Mac users with a KAT500/KPA500 had this problem when using the Mac
version of the KAT500 utility?

Thanks,

Scott

Re: [Elecraft] K3S Antenna Selection

2022-05-05 Thread David Olean
A few years ago, someone had supplied PC boards  to the Elecraft
reflector, that would replace the KANT3 and provide for two antennas. I
got one and it works great.

I wish I had more of them!  As far as I know they are no longer
available. It was a one time thing.

[Elecraft] I need some guidance - KAT500

2022-05-05 Thread Andy Durbin
One thing that you may not understand is that MAN with BYP active is the same
electrically as BYP mode).

I use all 3 ANT ports of my KAT500 and never used any KAT mode except MAN. Some
of my antennas work fine in MAN/Byp and others require some help with L and/or
C. All antenna switching is automatic with a seamless re-configuration as
required for any band swap.

Each memorized tuning solution (6 possible per frequency bin) includes the
Bypass relay configuration (BYPB or BYPN).

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Option Advice Wanted

2022-05-05 Thread Keith Onishi
When I got my KX3, I positioned it as outdoor use. The options I got at the
moment were KXFL3, KXAT3, KXBC3 and MH3.
When I got K3 as my main TRX, I repositioned the KX3 as both a back up TRX to
K3 inside shack and the outdoor use. So, I got KXPA100.
Later, I added KXPD3 for easy CW operation on outdoor use.

If you plan to operate KX3 outdoor with random wire antenna, I would suggest to
get an adaptor BNC plug to double bind post.

[Elecraft] I need some guidance - KAT500

2022-05-05 Thread Bob McGraw
Your request can be attained by use of the KAT500 Utility to configure
each antenna or antenna port per band as needed.

I use Ant 1 and Ant 2 for my wire antennas, 160M - 10M and Ant 3 for my
6M yagi in bypass mode.  After setting up the KAT500 via the Utility,
and training the KAT500 for the antennas and frequencies, then when I go
to 6M the KAT500 goes automatically to BYPASS mode.    The other bands
are selected for "last used" by the Utility.

Hello Elecrafters,

I am running a K3-based K-Line: K3-P3-KAT500-KPS500.

Currently, I have two antennas connected to my KAT500: ANT 1 is my SteppIR
40/30 3L, and ANT 3 is my 160M/80M dipole.

When I have my K3 select 40M/20M/17M/15M/12M/10M/6M, my KAT500 is in BYP
mode and ANT 1 as expected.

On 30M, my SteppIR requires some matching and I have trained the KAT500 to
match the SteppIR on 30M. This works fine if I remember to switch the
KAT500 to MAN before transmitting on 30M.

On 160M and 80M, the KAT500 selects the ANT 3 correctly, but stays in BYP
mode and I must switch the KAT500 to MAN to use the KAT500 matching
parameters.

I've been operating this way for 10 years and I'm quite use to these
methods.

However, it has occurred to me that there may be a way of configuring the
KAT500 so that:

* When I have the K3 select 30M, the KAT500 selects MAN mode ANT 1,
and then if 40M/20M/17M/15M/12M/10M/6M is selected, the KAT500 would return
to BYP mode on ANT1.

* When I have the K3 select 160m or 80M, the KAT500 would select MAN
mode ANT 3, and then if 40M/20M/17M/15M/12M/10M/6M is selected, the KAT500
would return to BYP mode ANT1.

It appears to me that once my KAT500 is in BYP mode, it remains in BYP mode
for whichever band/ANT is selected until changed by the MODE button, and
once in MAN mode, it remains in that mode until manually changed.

I've worked with the KAT500 Utility to try to achieve this more automatic
switching of antennas and KAT500 modes by band but have not yet succeeded.
I've read through the manual, but I cannot find what I need to accomplish
this.

Your guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Option Advice Wanted

2022-05-05 Thread Ed Cole

I ordered the "kit" version when the first one's were offered (sn 475).

I got everything except paddle (not a CW operator) or the battery
charger (use either external battery or use it mobile/in shack).

I did get the 2m module as 144 is IF of my mw transverters (1w drive
level) where SSB is prime mode. Microwave* shots are typically from
shore line or hill (mountain) top in semi-portable operation.

I use it with the KXPA-100 for mobile, where I have 25w 2m booster to
drive 150w amp. 80w on HF/6m is fine for mobile.

I got options with thoughts of resale value (later on).

Thanks!
