Re: [Elecraft] P3 gone BLACK
Hi, I had this exact problem, the problem gets worse with time... At least mine did. I sent in my P3 to Elecraft repair, and got it back a month or so later working... 73, and thanks, Dave (NK7Z) https://www.nk7z.net ARRL Volunteer Examiner ARRL Technical Specialist, RFI ARRL Asst. Some suggestions have been to replace one or more power supply capacitors assuming they've become flakey, or to plug the P3 power into the station supply, instead of the 12VDC output on the back of the K3s (assuming that the 12VDC output is weak or slow to rise during K3s power on). I've not tried either of those solutions, preferring to just mitigate the issue by toggling the power, which doesn't happen very often, because I tend to leave the rig on most of the time. [Elecraft] going back in time with the K1
The K1's main tuning rate is partially determined by the choice of tuning range, with the wider range obviously requiring a faster tuning rate for complete traversal. The K1 manual indicates that RF board capacitor C2 determines the main tuning range, with C2 = 120 pF yielding about 150 kHz of range and C2 = 68 pF yielding about 80 kHz of range. Both capacitors were supplied with the kit. There was an official Elecraft mod for the K1 to eliminate the variation in the main tuning rate from one end to the other of its range, but I skipped that mod because the variation didn't bother me. RIT/XIT tuning range and rate is determined by the R4/R3/R5 voltage divider on the front panel board. Increasing equally the values of fixed resistors R4 and R5 will reduce both incremental tuning range and rate. (Obviously, it's easier to replace the fixed resistors than the pot.) A value of R4 = R5 = 47K will result in an RIT/XIT tuning range of about 1 kHz, with resulting slower tuning. On the other hand, this range isn't enough for DX split-frequency operating, so DXers may prefer some value between 47K and the stock but touchy 10K. 73, Paul W8TM __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] going back in time with the K1
I still enjoy my K1, too. A favorite qso was going to a nearby park in Delaware, stuck a wire in the back, tuned and qso'd with an op in France. I always liked the K1 ad quoting a compliment by a Heathkit chief engineer, Mike Elliot w8kkr, preserved here: https://www.qrpproject.de/UK/elecraft_k1.htm 73, Mike ab3ap On 8/21/22 11:09 PM, brianpepperdine brianpepperdine wrote: > Well.. anyhow last week I had extra time on my hands so pulled out some of the neglected rigs.
