18 KD2WCY NJK2/KXPA100Kevin (w)

(Entries with (c/o) indicate a 'one and done' station that checked out
during the 1st round)

We had a total of 18 check ins this week (including the NCS). Thanks to
all the relays this week that helped to pull in signals that I couldn't
hear clearly. Very nice hearing from everyone tonight. I hope to see all
of you again. The net concluded at 09:50 PM ET.

I'd like to call out N6JW, John, from California for checking in via
Eric's, WB9JNZ, relay, and also bringing two additional new check ins to
the net from CA and UT. Hello to Mike, AC6JA, and Ken, N8EKF. John,
K5WC, reported hearing all three stations in AR. We had a quiet night,
with virtually no lightning in the North America region, and a K index
of 0, with very low D Layer absorption. Essentially ideal conditions to
hear stations from the West Coast, in spite of the fact that it was
still daylight there.

We have a really great group of folks checking in, and I encourage
anyone in the Midwest and adjoining areas to try to check in next week.

As a reminder, if you go to https://netlogger.org at the net starting
time and look for the 80M Elecraft SSB Net, you should see the frequency
we are using that evening, if we must QSY again due to busy frequencies.

73,

Re: [Elecraft] IF OUT - Same as just sharing the antenna?

2024-03-10 Thread Don Rasmussen via Elecraft
Programs such as SDR Console V3 make accommodations for  IF OUTPUTso that it
can be used but it is limited in some ways as compared to havingand using the
shared antenna (RF OUTPUT). If I have it, I use RF Output.

Please help me understand how the IF OUT works on an Elecraft radio.? Is
it the same thing as sharing the antenna with a T/R switch, or does it
tap the RF processing chain later down the line. Does the IF OUT merely
share the antenna, or does it come later in the circuit - are there any
practical reasons why one is better than the other?? I presume the IF
OUT is better, but wonder why.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report

2024-03-10 Thread kevin

Good Evening,

Both nets had OK propagation.  Both bands also had QSO party
participants.  I know Wisconsin was having theirs but it sounded like a
number of other states were having theirs too.  The CW bands were being
utilized :)

Weather reports were uplifting.  Almost everyone else has sun with
warm temperatures.  Only Dwight and I are experiencing the tail end of
winter.  I expect my snow will be gone by the end of the week.  My
daffodils were about six inches tall when the snow started falling.
They will be ready for sun when they're uncovered.

I have written some code to simulate a wind tunnel.  It is far from
mature.  What I want it to do differs from what I am telling it to do.
Gradually I am taming various features as I learn the algorithms of the
Lattice Boltzmann method.  Here is a link to screen shots of a variety
of profiles in a wind stream at a Reynold's number of 100.0 :
http://bacona.design/tunnel.html

The lattice Boltzmann algorithms can also model electric and magnetic
fields.  A way to model antennas and their propagation fields.  Or see
how inductors interact.  Test how orienting your toroids will lessen
their effects on each other over a range of frequencies.  Lots of
interesting code to write :)

I wrote another page to partially document my elastic mesh ideas:
http://bacona.design/mesh.html  This one is quite large so it will take
a long time to load if your net connection is slow.

[Elecraft] K3S

2024-03-10 Thread Vern
I feel bad about my K3S sitting all alone on the shelf. Haven’t used it since I
got my K4D, so I guess it’s time to let it go. Serial Number 101xx.ATU, sub
receiver, 5 filters in main receiver, and 4 in the sub.9+ condition.
Works as it should. Had it back to Elecraft a few years ago for a tune up.
Looking to get $3350, which would include insured shipping. If you are
interested, give me a shout and I will take pics. k2...@k2vjk.com

[Elecraft] Manual for pre 3000 S/N K2?

2024-03-10 Thread Steve Zabarnick
I recently bought a pre 3000 serial number K2 (S/N 2539) which is the older
Rev A version. I am looking for a pdf of the K2 manual for these older
units. The manual does not seem to be on the
Elecraft web or ftp sites. Anyone know where I can get one?

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 no PC comms

2024-03-10 Thread Jack Brindle via Elecraft
The KAT500 does not use the same cable as the K3 or K4 or, for that matter, the
KPA500. It needs a cable with stereo mini-phone connector. Elecraft has a USB
cable that plugs into the KAT500 and works quite well.

[Elecraft] For Sale: Noktua fans for K3s

2024-03-10 Thread Doug Hensley
Awhile back when the K3s was the talk of the day, a few
K3s owners experimented with fans to reduce the noise
from the factory fans running.

One of the fans which was praised was the Noctua NF-A6x25

FLX Premium a Quiet 60 mm Fan

with a 3 pin connector. The
fan took some effort to install but the results as I recall were
hailed as a great improvement.

All to say, I have two spare NIB Noctua NF-A6x25 fans and will
sell both as a pair for 39.95 plus 9.00 shipping.

Just have two to spare so QSL if interested.

Payment by check, money order or PP + 5%.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Time changes

2024-03-10 Thread kevin

Good Morning,

I missed the time change.  As usual the nets both stay at the same
local time while their UTC (Z) times change.  Same as every other year
if I remember the dates for the changes.  So please check your schedules
for 3 PM and 5 PM Pacific Daylight time.

Please join us on (or near):

14050 kHz at 2200z Sunday (3 PM PDT Sunday)
7047 kHz at z Monday (5 PM PDT Sunday)

[Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Net Announcement

2024-03-10 Thread Dave New, N8SBE
Please join us on 3803kHz (NOTE THE NEW FREQUENCY) plus (not minus) QRM
(see the Netlogger discussion, below), 9PM ET Sunday (0100Z Monday).
Note that the net stays on the same local time, when we switch back and
forth to/from Daylight time, so the UTC time changes, but not the local
time.

As daylight persists more into the evening, we may find it more
difficult to conduct the net at its regular time. For the time being,
let's keep it at 9PM ET, as that is getting late on a 'school night' for
a lot of folks, as it is.

Your net control this week will be Dave, N8SBE.

After some discussion, we've decided to try moving from 3806 kHz to 3803
kHz. The past few weeks there has been some sort of noise heard on 3806
kHz by East coast stations, making it difficult to hear net control.
The group that meets on 3803 kHz has been wrapping up operations
promptly at 9pm ET (so far), so it should be clear for our use then.
I'll keep a watch to see if the net that normally occupies 3803 kHz the
hour before our time stays with local time, or moves with the change to
daylight saving time. If they move their local time, it will place them
on top of our 9PM ET net, so we'll need to deal with that if it occurs.
It's typical for 80M nets to use local time, as they tend to be regional
in nature, not nation- or world-wide.

If you are a US General class licensee, please ensure that your dial is
accurately calibrated and that your transmitter/amplifier combination is
clean and free of splatter, since we will be operating LSB within 3 kHz
of the lower 80M US General class band edge.

I'm using Netlogger, so if you go to netlogger.org and look for the 80M
Elecraft SSB Net, you will be able to see the exact frequency we've
settled on for the evening. If we find 3803 kHz busy, we will move UP
the band a few kHz, so we can stay in the 80M US General class band.

Hope to see you this evening on the net.

73,

-- Dave, N8SBE

[Elecraft] KAT500 no PC comms

2024-03-10 Thread Mike Dodd
Elecraft is taking a l_o_n_g time to repair the USB port on my K4d, so I
bought a used K3 (non-s) as a backup rig. It works fine, and interfaces
correctly with my KPA500 and KAT500. (The KAT is already configured for
all frequency steps on all bands, and I can hear the KAT relays click
when I change bands.)

But the KAT Utility doesn't connect to the KAT.

I'm using the same Computer interface cable plugged into the same USB
port on the PC. Windows Device manager says it's working.

With a K4, does the KAT communicate with the PC via the K4's USB
connection, which he K3 doesn't have?

What am I missing?
