Re: [Elecraft] IF OUT - Same as just sharing the antenna?
The K3's IF OUT bandwidth is limited only by the front-end RF filters so it covers an entire amateur band, plus. That is handy for a panadapter because it is always centered on the VFO A frequency. The IF center frequency is 8.215 MHz. Alan N1AL On 3/9/2024 11:04 PM, Fred Jensen wrote: It's around 8.15 MHz. [Elecraft] Re: Elecraft Digest, Vol 23, Issue 26
Greetings all, We had an interesting time a few years ago in the UK when PLT (power line telecomms) was a new threat. We built a mains supply to spec complete with street lighting standards and then tested various power line transmission proposals for radiation. Needless to say it radiated, even when the light standards were disconnected. The test results were all very well but it was all summed up quite nicely when, still without the light standards, the amateurs in the technical group held 57 (if not 59) QSOs with most of continental europe on QPR rigs. The cable isnt underground in the rf sense, its just in a different dielectric medium and -2ft AGL. Regards Alan G0HIQ --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ...Doesn't that give the lie to our historical claims that you can put the usual utility lines underground but not radio antennas? I guess that with enough power one can put any antenna underground (GWEN) or even underwater (SUBCOMM) but let's not give my wife any more ammunition!! [Elecraft] Re: Elecraft Digest, Vol 22, Issue 2 Message 3 TVI
Hi David, My suggestion is a coaxial trap or possibly a series LC to deck (use a trimmer C). The insertion loss will be minimal. A single trap had little effect on the feed Z as shown on my Tx but ideally a second one about lambda/4 at 145MHz further down the feeder will offset the effect at 145. I'll be interested to see how it works on the harmonic. [Elecraft] No Code UK view
Hi all, The UK amateurs voted by a reasonable but no a large majority to drop the code post WRC03. The issue for the administration (then the Radiocommunications Agency - RA) was a defensible licensing need. Historically CW was the only common mode between amateurs and the other users with whom they shared many bands. Consequently a valid case could be made to need a code test. Now all the other (professional) users have dropped the code so there is no licensing need. The RA would not have won a challenge to demonstrate why a license to operate on HF required code ability. The other examinable features of the licence examinations can be justified. I cannot speak for how the FCC will regard the matter or for US jurisprudence, but if they make a rule for which they cannot provide a justifiable need, then I assume they are liable to legal challenge. Ergo, you have to provide them with a need to retain code testing that they can stand up and say whilst keeping a straight face. [Elecraft] Re: Elecraft Digest, Vol 16, Issue 21
Hi all, Ken aa7jc said "I have not done much testing yet since I don't have anything that draws that much current." I have a couple of drums of mains cable known in the UK as 2.5 T&E, the 2 conductors are 2.5 mm sq and earth is about 1.5. The inner end is available so I soldered the two main conductors together. UK rating is about 22A depending on how its installed, rather less rolled on a drum! Connect the two 'free' ends to 'short' the PSU. You are only looking for 1/2 1/3 1/4 ohm depending on current; it works very well for plenty long enough for stiffness tests, unroll for a soak test or it probably wont unroll ever again ! [Elecraft] magnetic fields and phase noise
Hi All, Reading the magnetic field and phase noise saga makes me think of earth loops. If moving to another power socket- as in moving to another room cures it. How about using mains isolation transformers so only connection K2-linear really is the coaxial feeder. Or battery power K2. Just a thought. Alan (actually G0HIQ but my e-mail provider wont let me have it!) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Subject: [Elecraft] magnetic fields and phase noise? To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], elecraft@mailman.qth.net Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Interesting Earl, the non exhaustive tests I've done indicate that it is not due to magnetic fields. But if indeed that is the case, there must be a relatively easy, if perhaps not elegant, way of significantly improving this.
