[Elecraft] KX3 drifting downwards
Hello to everyone . I have a brandnew KX3 and have the following problem . Using the KX3 in SSB or CW mode then he start to drift downwards with 1Khz almost every time when the KX3 going in TX mode (push the mic or footswith or the keyer ) . In Data mode there is no problem ..using wsjt-x Configuration : 1. Power Supply DM-330MVE = 13,8V dropping in TX to 13,6 V 2. KX3 10242 connected with all original cable from Elecraft to the power supply and PC On FT8 mode freq : 5.357 Power : 0,9 watt on kx3 Start at : Osc = 27 ° Celsius After 15 min : 31 ° After 60 min : 34 ° No drifiting ! On FT8 mode freq : 14.074 Power : 1 watt on kx3 Start at : Osc = 34° Celsius After 15 min : 35 ° After 60 min : 37 ° No drifiting !!! On SSB / CW mode freq : 14.290 Power : 1watt on kx3 Start at : Osc = 29° Celsius After 15 min : 33 ° After 30 min : 35 ° Drifiting downward ! My KX3 is drifting when I use USB or CW mode NOT on FT8 mode with the same configuration . 1. He start to drift downward every time when go to TX ( push the PTT ( or foot ) switch ) or the keyer . 2. Blocking VFO A make no different . 3. When I work SPLIT in SSB VFO A is drifting downwards and VFO B stay stable !! When I have a pileup and qso's going very fast I must correct continuously adjust the frequency with the dial knob It seem that this NOT a temperature problem , does anyone have the same problem 73' André C5YK /ON7YK [https://ipmcdn.avast.com/images/icons/icon-envelope-tick-green-avg-v1.png]<http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Virus-free. www.avg.com<http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] K3 as a SW receiver
Hi Tom, Congratulations for the nice website. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the K3/10 for SWL/DXing. I've here some nice receivers, like the ar7030 and nrd-535, and I can say that the K3 is even better for really tough dx. On MW it could have a better sensitivity, however. I received a Perseus SDR this week but did not have time to try and compare it with the K3. BTW, nowadays, a SDR receiver must be considered as it might be the best option. 73, André, PT7AT tsp00n wrote: > > Hi, Group, > > I have a website called SWLing.com that is designed to teach people > (in simple terms) how to operate a shortwave radio. Hi, I've been using the KUSB in my Vista 64-bit PC and it works flawlessly. Re: [Elecraft] LINE OUT output too low?
Paul, Jim and everybody else: The discursion about mVs has been excellent and pretty much instructive but all I'd like to know is why I can use my handheld Marantz recorder with every single radio in my shack that has a line level audio output but I can't use it with my K3! There is something else: when I plug a stereo cable from the k3's line out to the recorder's line in I have to change the recorder's input settings to MONO because with STEREO there is signal only on the left channel. Ok, the right channel is supposed to be used by the sub-receiver. But what if the sub-receiver is not installed? Just as additional info, I have here a Eton E1 receiver and it has line level out/in. It's manual (specifications) says: "Line Audio Output: 300 mV, 1K ohms for each output (left/right)." "Line Audio Input: 300 mV, 47K ohms." 73s André, PT7AT Matt Zilmer wrote: > > Thanks, both Paul and Jim for this information. Re: [Elecraft] LINE OUT output too low?
Thanks Don! I was planning to make the audio mod anyway. It might help to increase the output level even a little bit. The actual output level (or amplification) for some reason is well below the standard for line outs. Elecraft should address this problem. Otherwise, I think the K3 is a fantastic transceiver. The best one I have ever had. 73, André, PT7AT Don Wilhelm-4 wrote: > > Andre, > > I have not measured the K3 line out signal level - it does depend on the > input signal level to the antenna. > However, it should work fine with most recording devices, unless that > device presents a low impedance input (which would require more driving > power). > > You could try reducing the series resistors on the input side of the > isolation transformers (see page 8 of the K3AFMDKT instructions) which > may help. [Elecraft] LINE OUT output too low?
Hello everyone! Greetings from northeast of Brazil! I think this topic has somehow been discussed before but it was not conclusive. Forgive-me in case I´m wrong. While trying to make audio recordings using the K3 line level output and my Marantz PMD620 handheld audio recorder ( http://www.d-mpro.eu.com/index2.php?CID=3&Pid=139&action=detail&lang=eng) I found out that the output level of the/my K3 (#1164) is not high enough to make a good recording, no matter I turn the CONFIG LINE OUT to 100%. I´ve used the same Marantz recorder many times, plugged in others receivers/transceivers, and most of the times I´ve to attenuate the input level to avoid overload and distortion. Is something wrong with my K3? Can the AF stage upgrade help me with that? According to the K3 project, what is the nominal line level output of the K3? Thanks in advance.
