[Elecraft] elecraft-dev list shut down?

2022-03-17 Thread Art Greenberg
The last message posted to the elecraft-dev list was in January. I tried
posting a few days ago and my post never appeared.

Has that reflector been shut down? If it has, what is the appropriate
forum for asking K3/K3S related programming questions?

Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 malfunction

2020-10-23 Thread Art Greenberg
Follow-up:

It looks like one of the KSYN3A synthesizers went toes up. The little green LED
on synth #2 (sub rx) was on, but not the one on synth #1 (main rx). When I
swapped them, the illuminated LED followed the (presumed) working synth. With
just the one working synth installed for the main rx, the radio came to life,
and the response to the OM command has the "V" back in it.

[Elecraft] K3 malfunction

2020-10-22 Thread Art Greenberg
My K3/100 S/N 6522 was fine yesterday. Not so much today. No RX or TX (no
output in TUNE).. A clue, perhaps, response to the OM; command doesn't show the
KSYN3A is installed. (I get OM APXSDF--; but it should be OM APXSDF--V---;

I'm hoping for hints from experienced troubleshooters. I'll contact support
directly as well.

TIA.

Yeah, maybe I'm one of the exceptions. I just used 20 of them to build a
lightning ground system for a new tower install. Easy to use and considerable
peace of mind knowing the joints created will last a long time underground.

Re: [Elecraft] Quiet Ductless HVAC System

2020-05-27 Thread Art Greenberg
Albert,

I have an 18,000 BTU mini-split cooling my wood shop and radio shack. I started
with a high-end Lennox mini-split. When it died out of warranty I could not
justify the extra cost to go with the same model over a Mitsubishi. No
detectable RFI from either.

The Lennox was MS7-HO-18P outside and MS7-HI-18P inside.

I'll have to get back to you with model numbers for the Mitsubishi. I cannot
locate that information at the moment.

I've had good luck with KVMs from StarTech.com (also available on Amazon).

Re: [Elecraft] SS Amp

2019-01-16 Thread Art Greenberg
I have the 1.5K-FA. I like it. I am not heavily into contesting and I'm not
a competitive DXer.

Yes, it's less expensive than the KPA1500. It also doesn't integrate as
well with the K3. It doesn't control the K3's output power when switching
between standby and operate. One needs to remember to do that, especially
when switching into operate mode on the amp - massive overdrive isn't
pretty and could damage the amplifier.

It doesn't remote as well as the KPA1500, either. It comes with a software
control panel that runs on Windows. I use VNC to control the amp when
operating remote.

the price for the KPA1500 is a bit above my budget. I am looking at the SPE
1.5K-FA which is about $1000 less. I like the fact that it has inputs for
two radios and 4 antenna connections. Plus the power supply is built into
the same box. I know the response from this list will be pro Elecraft but
any constructive or informative comments would be appreciated.

Re: [Elecraft] Resistor and capacitor installation techniques: trim before or after soldering?

2018-03-25 Thread Art Greenberg
I guess if you're building something that goes into a spacecraft or is life
support equipment, you want to do everything you can to make the product as
reliable as possible. In most cases, ham gear, especially hand assembled ham
gear, doesn't fall into that category.

Mass produced through-hole assembly where the PCB is wave soldered requires the
parts to be held in place and leads trimmed prior to soldering. I recall a
"staking" tool that would flatten the component lead very close to the PCB and
trim off the excess in one operation.

Replacing parts where the components were staked in is a PITA.

Ed, I presume you're running some I/Q processing with the LP-PAN. Are you
doing that while running a computer based digital mode? Are you using a
separate audio interface for the RX TX audio in those modes? Is it
possible to have to sound cards connected and running at the same time?
