Subject: MD's gotta go... :>)

  Medical Doctors

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
700,000.

(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are
120,000.

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is
0.171

Statistics from U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

>>>

Now think about this...

Guns

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is
80,000,000.

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is
1,500.

(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is
.188

Statistics from FBI

>

So, statistically,
MD's are over 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember... 'Guns don't kill people, physicians do.'

>>

Fact: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor.

This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a MD than by a
gun owner!

>>

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.

We must ban MD's before this gets completely out of hand!!!

>>

Out of concern for the public at large, we withheld the statistics on lawyers
for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

[Elecraft] PS for KX3

2012-12-26 Thread Bill Harris
Who was looking for a small PS for his KX3? Here is one from MPJ. 16 VDC at
3+ amps. You'll need a power cord and an adapter plug to fit the K's. Hard to
beat the price.

2012-07-08 Thread Bill Harris

Wayne:
An Elecraft Transverter for below 510 kHz would be well received, world wide.
I guess the number of participants would be rather low to start with but
interest would increase with the availability of such an item. A poll of the
amateur market would give a good indication of interest. If the numbers aren't
there to warrant such venture, then maybe one of the small kit-providers might
pick up the banner.
Presently, I see two potential customers; KL7UW and myself. How's that for a
start? ;)

Great idea for upgrading the concentric knobs...But I think the OEM cost might
be why Elecraft didn't use them.Component manufactures will have a minimum of
three qualtity levels. Consumer; Industrial and Military. Not sure which
catalog Elecraft does their shopping in but the original concentric knobs may
have been from the consumer booklet. Maybe someone on list would put together
a group/quantity purchase from one of the stocking Distributors for those
wanting.

[Elecraft] My sick K2

2011-12-30 Thread Bill Harris

Looking for someone, hopefully near Seattle, that could do a little
troubleshooting and repair on my ole K2 (sn2888).From the indications; Low
power output on all bands. <5 W; 9.9 swr into D.L; I suspect there is a
problem in the Low Pass Filter Dept. My dexterity with the ole hands has
diminished since my bout with Chemo and doing close work with small things is
a real challenge.
Pse reply off List.

Re: [Elecraft] Problem with K3 receive audio

2011-04-09 Thread Bill Harris

Tom:
My K3 (300 series) does the same. Shifting the Filter Band Pass to the low
side does help my ears. I normally do not have a problem with high pitched
audio as my hearing starts down hill above 1300 Hz, but not so with the K3
audio. I eventually learned to live with it.

Re: [Elecraft] Anderson Powerpoll connector

2011-03-24 Thread Bill Harris

I guess my problem is: after reaching a certain age I have developed a bag full
of skills, which have served me very well for over a half century. Installing
small connectors is a piece of cake, that is until I came against the APP.
Didn't think needed to read the instruction sheet. After all, I should be able
to correctly install this with my bag of knowledge, right? Now that I have
achieved a higher level of connector expertise, I still prefer the Molex, but
that's me.
Also, something about having to buy a $30 crimper to do the right job tends to
rub me in the wrong direction as well.
Thanks for the bandwidth.

I find plenty of room above Contest Alley for ragchewing on 40 meters. Look

Other than that, 30m is a great band.

RE: [Elecraft] K3 voltage drop

2008-03-05 Thread Bill Harris

I am experiencing the same problem with my K3. Using the factory supplied power
lead. I measure a 1 volt drop between the power supply terminals and the K3
voltage reading at 100watts input (15.68 amps). I suspect most of the drop is
from the power lead and if so, seems a little excessive. I'll measure directly
across the PL to confirm this.

Tnx dave...
Will do that...however, my CONFIG menu, starting on p50, includes tech mode
entries and voltage and current are not listed. FP & HS temps (Utility

trouble) that the other items listed as Utility Displays would also be under
CONFIG. unless otherwise stated.

[Elecraft] K3 Voltage/Current display

2008-03-04 Thread Bill Harris

Under "User Interface" p7 of the OP manual, item 5 states that the Utility
displays voltage; Current; FP temp and HS temp; along with other data.
In the Config. menu I found the FP and HS temps but this menu does not
display a voltage and current entry, not to mention "Other Data".
I suspect I'm looking in the wrong place, but after 90 minutes of perusing the
manual I am declaring "No Joy". So my question for today is:
How/Where in h...does one go about locating the Utility display for voltage
and current?
Sorry to bother you with this as the answer is no doubt staring me in the
face. I just don't see it.

RE: [Elecraft] Re: Portable Antennae

2008-03-03 Thread Bill Harris

Sandy & Chris
If you happen to have another 33 ft. mast; a real performer is a pair of 1/2
wave verticals,(20 thru 10m) spaced anywhere between 1/4 to 5/8ths WL, end fed
in phase, or not. Can fire broadside or off the ends. Use four of these in a
box pattern you can have a unidirectional beam. Center feeding would enable you
to tune 17-15-12 & 10m, where, on 10, you would have colinear verticals Simple
to hook up. No radials. More gain than a Bobtail and a lower T/O angle. Great
DX antenna.
 IT SURE WORKS!

Carry-on
BillHarris w7kxb
PS..I haven't tried the center fed arrangement, as yet, but it sure looks good
on paper.
PPS...Maybe someone should establish an Elecraft Field Operation Reflector
(YahooGroups?) and lighten the load on this reflector.
