[Elecraft] WTB: Elecraft KPA1500
Good evening, All - I'm putting a post out in hopes of finding one of these fine Elecraft amplifiers used before I buy new. I'm not in a rush and would like to have something located by November. It must be in excellent condition and have all original factory boxes, manuals and cabling. I can pay via PayPal and will cover the fee's. I'm also open to driving a reasonable distance with cash in hand. Please contact me directly via email if you have one up for sale. Thanks! [Elecraft] PX3 noise generated on KX3-2M
Hi Group, I wanted to post this question as it relates to noise generated by the PX3 that interferes on the KX3's 2 meter module. I seen the topic was brought up a while back but I could not find a resolution to the problem. The KX3's 2 meter module works great and is super sensitive. However, when you connect the PX3, there is a very obvious and limiting noise received on the KX3. I'm narrowed it down to just 2 meter band. I use the KX3 on 2 meters for primarily weak signal work, so this does create some major issues. Just curious as to if there has been a solution identified to solve this problem? Worked like a charm. Did not do any special cabling except PTT and coax, the KPA500 takes care of the band changes automatically with it's RF sensor. The only drawback is you have to switch on the KPA500 using the KPA Utility software as there is no switching signal as the K3 can provide using a special macro. But I never had a problem with the KPA software doing the job except you need an own remoteable serial port for it. Hope that helps. 73, Olli - DH8BQA Contest, DX radio projects: http://www.dh8bqa.de Am 10.11.2014 15:38, schrieb Chad Wasinger: Hi Group, Has anyone successfully used the KPA500 with the Icom 7100? [Elecraft] KXPA100 Antenna Switching
Hi Group, Quick question on the KXPA100. I have a brand new factory built unit with antenna tuner that seems to have a possible antenna switching problem. When I press and hold the Tune (ANT) button, the amp typically sounds as if a relay is chattering and the LED under 25 flashes. Almost like it doesn't recognize the switch command and attempts to go into the tune mode. Regardless of what it is doing, the antenna switching does not take place. I've also tried to switch using the KXPA utility and it will not make the switch either when the amp is acting like this. Now sometimes the switching will all function correctly from the button or utility. Anyone else experience similar issues when attempting to switch between antenna 1 and 2? Thanks! Re: [Elecraft] K144XV Strange Readings
Mike - yes, I've seen the same thing. I can't put my finger on it either but when using the k144xv with my wattmeter, I have high SWR always. Normally I can still run the 5-7 watts into an amp without issues but there are times this high SWR trips things off. Elecraft - it would be nice to finally understand what needs to be done to correct this issues. Very common among the users that are on SSB/CW, not so much FM. Just curious if anyone has had problems like this? In SSB mode, keying the mic without any audio causes the watt meter to show about 3 watts output power and 3:1 SWR. However If I hold the TUNE button and put out a carrier It shows the expected 7-10 Watts forward with normal low SWR. It also appears to show normal readings while speaking into the mic, but goes to the unusual readings with in between audio peaks. Re: [Elecraft] K3 144XV QUESTION
Richard - I've experienced the same issue with the K144xv internal transverter boards on at least three K3's. I run a similar setup with a Tokyo Hy Power 350 amplifier and PowerMaster watt meter. In SSB, my amp and the meter show an SWR over 2.5 to 1 and it then it drops to normal when modulation starts. It is very weird and specific to the k144xv as my Yaesu 817nd works fine with normal readings. Sometimes it will actually trick my amp into thinking the SWR is too high and it goes into standby. A quick analyzer put on the feedline confirms that SWR is fine. The only solution I've ran across and that has worked is replacing the k144xv with a new one. Did this several months ago on my second K3/10 and the problem did disappeared. Elecraft said there was some sort of oscillation going on with the faulty k144xv and that the new one work correct it. Hope this helps. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - noise blanker works fine
My two cents.. I find that I run in T1-7 for a lot of the power line noise I hear on 2 meters. Absolute fantastic job at removing the noise and not degrading the weak signal that is normally received on SSB nets 300-400 miles out. Every once in a while I engage the DSP NB on the first or second setting to remove some stranger noise. I would also vote that the K3 is the best transceiver I've ever owned at removing various types of noise you find across the band. What a great tool! [Elecraft] K3EXREF Experience
Hi Group, I wanted to post my experience with the addition of the K3EXREF in my K3. First off, took me around 30 minutes to install, everything went smooth. Very nice addition to my K3! I run a OCXO 10 MHz reference into the module and working just as I hoped it would. When turning the radio on (cold start, 20C), it takes about 5 seconds for the first analyzes to complete and for the frequency to come into accuracy with the reference signal. For testing, I start the radio up on WWV and monitor the 10 MHz output with SpectrumLab. Normally on a cold start, I’m around 20 Hz high and the first EXREF correction drops me right on with WWV. Then over a period of an hour, continuous changes are made as my TCXO warms up. Very pleased with the immediate frequency accuracy provided by the EXREF. Next on my list is to find a Trimble Thunderbolt GPS disciplined reference. If anyone has an extra they want to sell, please let me know Just wanted to drop a note to all the Time Nuts out there! 73, Chad N0YK __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] KTCXO3-1 TCXO
Thanks you all for responding to this. I also note that it takes around an hour for the larger corrections to settle down and several hours for complete stability to set in. I've been monitoring my front panel temperature sensor which normally runs 36 C with the radio on for several hours and a shack temperature of 75 F degrees. From a cold start up at 24 C, it normally takes about an hour to reach a constant temperature of 36 C on the FP. I know the FP temp reading and TCXO are separate pieces but at the point of 36 C, I have really notice the TCXO to settle out. Thanks,ChadN0YK Chad, I observed the action of my TCXO3-1 closely after initial installation of the EXREF. I noted from cold start up that the TCXO was receiving a continued updated offset for about 20 to 30 minutes, whereby it stabilized out at about an offset of about 78-80. From that time on the offset would only wander a couple points over several minutes. A check of my 28-MHz transmit frequency accuracy was within 2-Hz (indicating 0.1 ppm) and would only occasionally change by 1-Hz reflecting the slow drift of the TCXO between reference checks with the external 10-MHz source. Running the TCXO-3 without the EXREF accuracy is aprox. 0.5ppm or on 28-MHz this translates to a maximum error of +/- 14-Hz. Freq. measurements are made with an EIP-538 microwave counter that is referenced to a Rubidium 10-MHz reference. The K3EXREF is referenced to a separate OCXO which is run on a battery full-time. Short-term stability of the OCXO is +/-5 E-12, Long-term stability is +/-5 E-5 which requires adjustment about every four months to correct about 1-Hz long-term drift. I have a 200K ten-turn helipot for adjusting the OCXO frequency. I use my Rubidium as frequency reference which is +/- 5 E-11 after 30-min warmup. GPS is more accurate but I find the Rubidium sufficient for my needs. eg: 10-MHz is 1.0 E+7, multiplied by 5 E-11 = 5.0 E-4 Hz = 0.0005 Hz See details of the EXREF (and TCXO3-1): http://www.kl7uw.com/K3EXREF.htm 73, Ed - KL7UW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Ron - Yes, very doable. I'm currently remoting my K3/10 that is a mile away via a wireless ISP network to my house using RemoteRigs and the K3/0. The performance is very good and almost like I was in front of the actual radio. Remoting your K3 while install your home network should be much easier and reliable. Plus RemoteRig offers a WiFi add-on board that will help with the ease in your setup. I just ordered one direct from RemoteRig last week. Setting it all up with my very complex (for me) Verizon router (which also supplies other functions like TV), would have been impossible with out the very able and terrific support provided by Brandon at Elecraft. My sincere thanks to him for providing terrific support. His support is the primary reason I’d recommend using the RCC 1258s (which work very well with the K3s/k3/0) or other rigs as well. I’d recommend anyone to call him should you have difficulties setting up your remote operation. Finally, having a dynamic name server (I think that’s what its called) (provided by Microbit) is paramount to automatically reconfigure your device access should your routers (public IP adress) change – which will occur while your away from your rig for any number of reasons - like power failures, etc. Good luck, Jim – W5AP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Thanks for the explanation and plot. I will try your settings for the slope/threshold. I do run a mast-mount SP-2000 for 2 meters with the internal K144XV, works well together. I have not added a preamp on 6 meters yet. Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2013 16:28:55 + From: als...@nc.rr.com To: chadwasin...@outlook.com Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 AGC settings for weak signal CW Chad, AGC doesn't kick in till way above weak signal on any reasonable values of THR and slope. Of course a mast mounted preamp on 2M would help a lot. One can get by with a back of the rig preamp for 6M. The stock K3 is deaf on 6M. For weak CW signal DXing, I had to add 15 db of low NF preamp gain. Managed to finally finish 6M DXCC last year. The prevailing DXer's are all over the map on where to set the threshold on HF bands. I've decided to set slope/threshold to 12/12 here based upon some measurements. Attached is the curve I generated. The threshold determines where the AGC action starts. The slope is how fast the audio rises with increasing signal above this point. 73 de Brian/K3KO On 1/17/2013 16:15, Chad Wasinger wrote: Would anyone be willing to share their preferred AGC settings for receiving weak cw signals? Thanks for the feedback. I want something simple, so hopefully the FSK will work for me. Merry Christmas! I use the DTR line on a COM port, with a transistor level converter (identical to the simple FSK RTTY interface[1]), to trigger it, with custom software. For testing purposes, Hercules[2] is quite handy. I do this with a remoterig interface. Any remote relay will work. This turns on the rig then the rig stays on even if the closure is momentary. To turn it off you need to send it the power down command via the command serial port. A macro within HRD will do this easily. The DC out jack on the K3 can then power a relay to turn on accessories. I'm not sure how Kenwood does it on their ts-2000 but the remote on/off feature is pretty smooth via HRD. Suggestions?
