[Elecraft] K3 AM Power

2013-09-08 Thread DL5OCD
Hi group,
i observed a strange behaviour regading the power-setting in AM mode.
When i switch to FM, transmit with 100W, switch to AM and press PTT again
the K3 produces 100W dead-key.
When i then adjust the power from 100W to 99W and back again to 100W it
delivers the expected level of 25W dead-key.
Do someone have the same behaviour of his K3?
I don`t know when this issue started, i use the latest FW 4.67

The Sennheiser Headset PC-151 with the K3 is a outstanding combination. It is
cheap and sounds great.
Even for those who transmit on AM, it produces a "studio quality" sound.

Re: [Elecraft] K3: Poor sound on FM

2011-08-22 Thread DL5OCD
Hello Lyle,

that makes sense. Here in Germany CTCSS is not so important, we use the
1750Hz Tone to key up our repeaters. It would be a nice feature if the user
could decide by himself if he want to hear down to 0Hz on FM. Maybe a switch
in the menu could solve this. Or adjustable bw like in other modes. I really
miss the warm sound of my analog gear.
Many thanks for your answer !

[Elecraft] K3: Poor sound on FM

2011-08-22 Thread DL5OCD
Hello,

from my point of view the K3 is one of the best sounding radios on AM and
SSB.
But i observed a lack of quality on FM-the sound is very thin compared to AM
and SSB.
It seems that the DSP cuts out the range from 400 to 2700Hz (uuh!).
Measured with my analyzer, i can send those graphs to anyone who may
concern.
No matter how the EQ is adjusted.

Any ideas are welcome

2011-03-30 Thread DL5OCD
Wow,

these are very confusing answers. I have had the same question and talked to
Lyle (the DSP Guru).
But now to your questions:

1. Does the DVR playback audio really pass through TX EQ and audio
compression before being transmitted?

YES, IT DOES !!!

2. If so, why does it sound so different from live audio, as I hear it
my headphones in TX Test mode?

See answer 1.

3. Is there a separate audio gain setting for the DVR output that I'm
missing?

No, but maybe it comes up in the future...

Re: [Elecraft] Is NR effective on ssb?

2010-02-17 Thread DL5OCD

Hi Oliver,
i think there is a big misunderstanding how NR works. NR is not able to
conjure a voice out of the dark.
If a signal is not readable without NR, you won`t have luck with NR enabled.
It only makes it more comfortable to listen to.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mic adjustment - How not to do it. :<)

2010-02-15 Thread DL5OCD

Hello Bob,

i have a Kenwood MC-60 and a cheap headset connected to the K3. Also a
Kenwood MC-43 is working very well.
Mabe try this adjustment for a start:
CMP: 18
Mic gain : 30 (depending on the H or L adjustment in the menue)
TX EQ:
50 0
100 +8
200 +4
400 -3
800 -3
1600 +2
2400 +10
3200 +11

On the air reports are outstanding with this adjustment, with or without
ESSB enabled.

Hello Eric,

be careful when using RS-232 cable with your K2, you can destroy the TRX !!!

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] K3 vers K2 questions that I keep seeimg

2010-01-18 Thread DL5OCD

Hello Harry,

i am a lucky owner of a K3 since 2 years. I have had no experience with
Elecraft before, but after i bought the K3 i was very curious and bought 2
additional K2`s. After some mods, i have taylored them to my needs and-what
should i say- i will never give them away. In my opinion, they are one of
the best analog radios ever being build.
For me, i`ve never done the comparision of QSO`s per $. The only thing i can
say is that both radios perform very well, under critical condx and the for
the "real world daily use". I often switch beween them by my daily
preferences. If you have the chance, keep both of them in the future and
enjoy the Elecraft experience, you won`t regret it.

2010-01-04 Thread DL5OCD

Hello Dick,

if i don`t get wrong, Wayne mentioned a new transverter module for the K3
wich offers something for the
lowfers a few weeks ago. Stay tuned !

Re: [Elecraft] K2 Power monitoring issue.

2008-07-02 Thread DL5OCD

Hello Joe,

i have the same problem here. At first there was always full power out at
all levels. In my first debugsession i found that D16 and D17 were dead,
also the swr-bridge in the KAT. After replacing
the diodes i have the same problem like you now, will fix it in my next
debugsession. The voltage at U5 and U6 is discribed in the manual of the KPA
100 (i belive 0-5V, depending on powerlevel). It seems like the way from the
bridge to VRFDET is bad by a second fault (in my case).

[Elecraft] Transmit through AM-Filter

2008-06-26 Thread DL5OCD

Hello,

just for a test: declare the 6kHz filter (if installed) to be a 2.8 kHz
filter (FLx BW) and then
set FLTX SB to that filter. Enjoy the great TX-sound !
