Nice list Ted. I agree with all except a variation on numbers 4 and 6: I'm happy to have an external computer for contest and everyday logging and for functionality equivalent to K3 Utility. Re: [Elecraft] K3 DSP firmware update 'Missing'
Update: on further examination when I 'Copy new files from Elecraft' in the utility, it responds with '2 files copied' then waits for the download. Clearly it must need to copy more than two files for MCU, FPF and DSP. I can see all the needed files on the Elecraft ftp site, but the utility is not copying the DSP 2.88 files that are there. In case my anti-virus/anti-malware software was interfering with the copy process, I temporarily switched it off. Re: [Elecraft] Flying with a Spiderpole
Hi Thaire, The 6Gs DXpeditions (TX6G, E6GG, ZL7G + later this year VK9X(full call TBD)) have all included 12m and/or 18m Spiderpoles as antenna supports. We wrap them in bubble wrap and ship them in ski bags or hard ski/snowboard cases as checked baggage. No issues with breakage or loss, but we have had to describe them as 'fishing poles' a couple of times. If you want to have your antenna support as carry-on baggage, you'll usually need to keep it to a collapsed length of 1.2m (4ft) or less. For that the DX-Wire poles are ideal (available from http://www.dx-wire.de/lng/en/fiberglass-poles/?xploidID=156c8060417ce6049df949b4569517dc or from SOTABeams) HTH. Enjoy the trip! Re: [Elecraft] |KX2 Deaf on 7.0
Tony, Elecraft have a service agent - Carlo Bianconi - in Italy who does great work. Shipping was very reasonable. Several of the 6Gs DXpedition team sent KPA500s over to him for a hardware upgrade and full checkout before our first trip (TX6G). I'd chat with Elecraft support first, but if they suggest sending the unit to Carlo, from our experience it will be in good hands. 73 David G3WGN M6O WJ6O -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 P3 IF connection question
I have recently moved QTH and am now setting up my Elecraft radios in the new shack - in exactly the same configuration as at the previous QTH. No hardware changes, no firmware upgrades, same cable set. Everything is working fine with the K3/P3/KPA500/KAT500 combination, with one exception: The signals displayed on the P3 rarely exceed S1 on the scale even when the K3 S meter shows S9+. I have replaced the BNC - BNC cable connecting the K3 IF out with the P3 input. No change in signal level. Is there a simple way to check the K3 IF output for correct operation so that I can home in on whether the issue is at the K3 or P3 end of the connection? Any pointers much appreciated! 73 David G3WGN M6O WJ6O -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Antenna Question
Not oddball in EU, nor expensive. Good quality ones are available from Kabel-Kusch in Germany and Barenco in UK: http://www.barenco.co.uk/uhf-line-socket-so239-jacks-rg213-clamp-top-hat-compression-body-solder-pin-165425. China RF do some good ones via Fleabay too. We use these extensively in our 6Gs DXpeditions, together with compression type PL259s. A side benefit is that it's easy to terminate the coax feed from multiple station in female connectors (forming a 'patch panel' in effect) so there is zero risk of cross-coupling 2 stations. My own station has mostly been converted to compression types; but there are Amphenols in there too. Motivation to change? Ease of waterproofing the compression types. Mike (and all who have sent replies on and off reflector) - thank you. I should have been more precise in my note. The firmware I'm using: MCU 05.33 FPF 01.23 DSP 02.86 Utility 1.15.6.29 Since the original posting I have reloaded the utility and all firmware. Also, many K3 users have this same hardware setup along with rev. 5.33 firmware. So I suspect a firmware configuration issue. Make sure you're not in TX TEST mode; have crystal filters configured correctly; have the SUB IN board installed correctly (if applicable); TUN PWR set to NOR; TX ALC ON; 2-TONE OFF; TX INH OFF. Also try removing the sub RX (if applicable) and reinstalling the bypass jumper for the sub-IN module. Get it down to the simplest configuration possible. Please send all of the info to k3support and they'll contact you on Monday. 73, Wayne N6KR On Aug 16, 2015, at 11:16 AM, Dave G3WGN M6O [hidden email]/user/SendEmail.jtp?type=nodenode=7606356i=0 wrote: Mike (and all who have sent replies on and off reflector) - thank you. [Elecraft] 6m birdies and K3S and/or new synth boards
Is there anyone out there yet who has done a detailed study of 6m birdies with the new synth and either external or internal preamp? A good friend with an early K3 is reluctant to upgrade to K3S as he hears a couple of dozen birdies on 6m with antenna disconnected. So how has this aspect of K3 performance evolved from early K3 (his is S/N sub-100) to the K3S? 73 David G3WGN M6O Member of the 6Gs team at E6GG in September 2015 www.e6gg.comhttp://www.e6gg.com Work us on as many bands as you can! -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/6m-birdies-and-K3S-and-or-new-synth-boards-tp7604211.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
