Re: [Elecraft] MMTTY DATA-A or FSK
To give equal time to other equally good logging software, I run my K3 in D-FSK via a homebrew LED Isolator Interface with Win-Test (not free) plus MMTTY, or DXLog (free at www.dxlog.net) with both MMTTY and 2Tone. 73 -- Dave, W9PA -Original Message- From: Elecraft [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of david Moes Sent: Wednesday, 01 October, 2014 22:07 To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] MMTTY DATA-A or FSK I have dabbled a bit with RTTY mostly with the Centenial and some DX but this past weekend I thought Ill give the CQWW-RTTY a try. spent a little time and got things working using N1MM and MMVARI using DATA-A relying on the P3 for waterfall display. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Setup and CM500 Headset Questions
The K3 can apply BIAS to either the Front 8-Pin Microphone Connector or the rear 1/8 Connector. BIAS settings for both are OFF, LOW, and HIGH. The K3 uses the Kenwood Microphone Connector pinout. Also if a Heil Adapter is used, it has to be a version without the 1uF Blocking Capacitor. Heild makes both one for use with their HC4 / HC5 Dynamic Elements and another for use with their iC Electret elements. 73 -- Dave, W9ZRX -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Igor Kosvin Sent: Tuesday, 21 February, 2012 23:30 To: 'Bryon'; 'elecraft' Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Setup and CM500 Headset Questions The CM500 has electret condenser microphone. I have a couple questions for you. I have browsed the archives and I was not seeing anything that was helping. This is a new K3 to me, the guy before was primarily a CW operator. He did not even own a mic. So I decided to buy the Yamaha CM500 headset and was trying to get it all setup this evening. Below is some of the things I have tried. In short, I am looking for the settings you have found to work. I am following the Fred Cady guide that I bought online. I am in the setting up SSB section. I was in test mode. When I was not in test mode I could get the TX light to come on via the PTT foot pedal, the XMIT button and never VOX. I never heard myself in test mode even when messing around with the Monitor, Compression, MicGain, VOX Gain and the VOX Interrupt, Mic+Line (off). I am using the Front Panel, Low, Heil adapter. I tried the headphones/mic on the computer, they sound great and the mic picks up very well. So, with VOX not going off at all. I suspect the mic connection is not getting to the radio. My headphones came with 1/8 to 1/4 adapters. 1 stereo and 1 mono. the mic on the headset is 1/8 and goes directly into the adapter along with the 1/4 PTT pedal. I then have the stereo 1/8 to 1/4 for the audio and that is plugged into the front. I also wasn't sure what to connect it to on the back since there are warning messages near the stereo connectors on the back. I was afraid to mess with anything there. Is it a bias issue? A connector issue? Software setting? Thanks in advance for any assistance. [Elecraft] Dead 40M
I was setting up my K3 for the NAQP tonight when I found that it had turned stone deaf on 40M. 80M and 20M are ok, WWV booms in on 10 and it TUNES ok on 40M,.but the background noise level on 40M is many DB down. I know there suppose to be large flare, but if that’s the problem, I would think that 20M would be bad well. I tried reloading the Firmware and Power Cycling the K3 with no effect. The only signal I copy on 40M is a VERY weak AM signal at 7245. Does anyone have an idea what might have gone bad and if when can be done to identify the problem. Also, I thought there was a “Master Reset” key-press combination to RESET the K3, but I find no mention of it in the manual. [Elecraft] Overtighted Case Screw Removal?
I was going to install a new Filter before the SS next weekend. I used the proper size Phillips screwdriver. The screws on the case lid came out easily. However one of the two side screws that hold the Stiffener Bar will not break loose. The last time this screw was removed and reinstalled was at the factory. I know it's the right size Phillips. It fit fine in the other screws. But despite trying to bear down on this screw, the Phillips head just slips inside of the screw head. Before it gets round off any more, I thought I'd ask for recommendations. I'd like to be able to install the Filter without damaging the case. Regardless it'll have to be replaced with a regular Ace Hardware SS screw. Thanks .. [Elecraft] Elecraft [K3] Macro Mess
I've read the K3 Programmer's Reference and the K3 Utility (V1.4.4.25) Help. Perhaps a programmer can understand it, but it offers me no step-by-step guide as to how to construct a Macro. So I suppose I'll limit myself to Macros others have written - but I based on the following experience, I have no confidence that I can assign them to a M-Key. I tried to implement a simple Audio Mixer Command, !bed3, that was listed in an October 2009 posting. I edited Macro 1, gave it a name, and wrote it to the K3. I entered the CONFIG Menu and selected Macro. I pressed 1, and the then the M3 key to assign it to the M3 Key. When I pressed the M3 Key, the name I'd assigned to the Macro was displayed, but the Macro did not execute. I could execute it from the K3 Utility, but not from the M3 Key. A subsequent READ MACROS FROM K3 showed that !bed3 was assigned to the Name I'd used for MACRO 1 I know the Audio Mixer functionality is now on the CONFIG Menu and this exercise was unnecessary, but I wanted to try something that was simple. I'd sure like to know what I did wrong? I doubt my ability to assign ANY Macro to an M-Key. Further, I have no DVR and tapping any of the M1-4 buttons returns NO DVR. The K3 Utility Help says to restore standard memory recording functions to tap the REC Key followed by the M-Key to be restored. The only way I could restore my M3 Key to returning a NO DVR Message was to send Blank Macro named NO DVR and then assigning that to the M3 Key. I would expect the restoration procedure to have done this. I have little confidence that getting the message to coincide with the other M-Keys makes that Key behave as the others. Also, several times after I'd written the Macro to the K3, the K3 MAIN Audio was muted. The S-Meter read full scale, and there was no audio. Cycling power restored operation but it was an unpleasant occurrence. 73 * Dave, W9ZRX __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 Utility Save / Restore Configuration Question
With multiple K3's, is it possible to use a perform a RESTORE K3 CONFIGURATION using a SINGLE CONFIGURATION File from just ONE of the K3's?? Reason I ask is that I note the Configuration File Name, and the File Itself contains the K3 Serial Number of the K3 from which it was originally saved. Is it necessary to alter the file name and file contents to use the SERIAL NUMBER of the Target K3??? [Elecraft] K3: Mixer Commands?
At one time there were several messages on how to set up the K3 Mixer to get various combinations of MAIN and SUB receiver Audio out to Both, or Specific Ears. At the time I though I had an understanding of the syntax of the Command - but I don't. Could someone provide the complete syntax of the command - indicating the different fields, and the values of those fields for the various combinations of Audio Mixing?? I don't find anything in the Programmer Reference and the original message posting (if I could find it) was a bit confusing. [Elecraft] Questing On Tuning Different Band with SUB Receiver
Wayne .. I know that you are still working on the code to allow the SUB Receiver to tune a different Band than the MAIN Receiver. I will be using a K3 on 6M with two antennas connected to ANT-1 and ANT-2 - one a Yagi and the other Horizontal Loop. Sometimes both receivers will be used with the two 6M antennas. The K3 will be also be used with a XV-144 Transverter. At other times I'd like to use the Main Receiver on 6M, while monitoring 2M with the SUB Receiver. The only way I can see to have the XV-144 Receiver Active - while also being able to Transmit immediately - is to connect the XV-144 to the Transverter Input and Output. However these are only activated (I think) when the appropriate CONFIG item has been set to add the Transverter to the Band Up / Down Selector. My question is whether there's any way it will be possible to have 6M on one Receiver, and 2M on the other? It's not obvious to me which is why I decided to ask. 73Dave, W9ZRX __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 to Elecraft Transverter Interface?
Is there a diagram that shows the connection of a K3's ACC Connector to the Elecraft XV-Series of Transverters? The only wiring diagram I can find is in the Transverter Manuals - and that is for the K2. I would try to infer the wiring from matching the K2 Pins to the names on K3 Pins, but I didn't have any luck doing that either. I've got to believe that given the forethought that went into interfacing the K3 with Transverters that surely Elecraft would provide the most detailed information on using the K3 with their Transverter Products. Can anyone point me to a interconnection diagram? 73 thanks Dave, W9ZRX ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] QST Review: Minor Quibble
Several years ago I bought a Griffin PowerMate for use with Ham Radio Deluxe. I was disappointed because it just did not have the resolution of the Rotary Encoder in transceivers - not enough Pulses / Rotation. A number of years ago, K9SD made a Remote Tuning Knob (a remote incremental encoder) for the IC-781. I kept it to the right of my keyboard and hardly every turned the Tuning Knobs on the IC-781 chassis. Occasionally I might reach for the NOTCH or tweak the DUAL Passband controls, but in a Contest a great Radio doesn't have to be fiddled with very much. That's been my (limited) Contest experience with the K3. I used my K3 down at a vacation QTH in far Southwestern North Carolina in the CW WW Phone - 100W to a Dipole at 50-feet looking into mountains 1000 feet higher than my QTH. I had virtually no propagation to Asia, the Pacific, or South/Central America but ended up with 24 zones and 87 countries. My xyl said if they couldn't hear me on the radio, they could probably have heard me yelling! I found myself wishing that I had a similar Relocatable Remote Tuning Knob for the K3 sitting next to my Laptop Keyboard. That would also take care of the needs of left-handed users as well. It REALLY is hard to tune with the wrong hand! By wrong I mean the hand that is NOT natural to the user. Wayne Eric that would make a wonderful accessory for Elecraft to market! 73 --- Dave, W9ZRX -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of K8TB Sent: Wednesday, 26 November, 2008 8:41 PM To: 'Elecraft Reflector' Subject: Re: [Elecraft] QST Review: Minor Quibble I used a Griffin Power Knob, using N4PY software on the K2.
