[Elecraft] Questions about KX2 possible purchase

2020-05-24 Thread Doug Daniels
I'm looking at the potential purchase of a KX2. It's primary use will be
SOTA, and other hiking ops. I've narrowed my choice down to this and one
other rig. I want to make sure of what is included and what is not, and
what needs to be added to the base rig and price.

My questions are, does the $829.95 price include a battery and tuner. The
web site isn't clear. If a battery is included, is a second one a wise
purchase?
If the tuner isn't included, how necessary is the tuner (I have an end fed
80 and am building an end fed 40).
Is the AX1 worth it for just 20, 17, 15?
What else is not included that I should be considering?

Re: [Elecraft] Questions about KX2 possible purchase

2020-05-25 Thread Doug Daniels
Thank you all, individually and collectively. Lots of great information,
not only about purchasing but also about operating the KX2 to get the most
functionality out of it. I've taken the comments and recommendations and
created a reference document for myself.

[Elecraft] External battery for KX2, field day and SOTA

2020-06-01 Thread Doug Daniels
I'm hoping to get my KX2 for Field Day, and am looking to get an external
battery to use for FD as well as SOTA. I'm looking at the Talentcell and
Bienno 12v 12Ah ones. Anything specific to the KX2 I need to know about
external batteries? I know the internal one is more or less proprietary.

[Elecraft] KX2 power cable polarity?

2020-06-27 Thread Doug Daniels
Just opened the box on my new KX2, and am about to put powerpoles on the
power cable. Since both sides of the wire are black, which is the positive,
the one with the white dashes?

Thanks.

As I am reading the manual for my new KX2, and watching a YouTube where
the guy was testing the rig with it set to 0 power. I just ordered the
dummy load from Elecraft. Thanks for the suggestion.

[Elecraft] Waterproof SO-239 covers

2020-07-15 Thread Doug Daniels
I just built a window antenna feedthrough panel, and want some waterproof
covers for the unused bulkhead connectors. Most of the online reviews say
that even the ones advertised to be waterproof are in fact not waterproof.
Anyone have a source for ones that are?

Re: [Elecraft] Waterproof SO-239 covers

2020-07-16 Thread Doug Daniels
Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. I've decided to go with the
American Radio Supply covers, as they looked the best quality. I'll combine
them with some Scotch/3M/rescue tape/coax-seal, whatever I can source
locally. I would have gone with the PL-259 idea if I'd had any used ones
around.

Re: [Elecraft] New KX2 - what am I doing wrong?

2020-11-23 Thread Doug Daniels
Have you only tried the AX1 or have you tried the BNC binding post with two
wires connected to it? I've tested my KX2 by painter's taping the antenna
wire to my ceiling and running the counterpoise along the floor. If that
works, you know it's the AX1 and not the rig. CQ WW CW is this weekend,
there will be people wall to wall on the bands, good time for testing.
