[Elecraft] new K3 owner (soon I hope)
I ordered my new K3 at Dayton which is scheduled for delivery in Sept. My question to the group is: Will the radio come with some version of software or firmware installed or be "dumb as a box of rocks" just out of the box and require some version of downloading before it will work at all. Hello all, I checked today for version 2.13 and found only 2.02 to be the latest firmware available to download. Am I doing something wrong? [Elecraft] Audio output level using phones on K3
I noticed the output level was quite low compared to the speaker so I went ahead and ordered the Proset-2 thinking it was just a problem with my old headset/boom mic. [Elecraft] K3 died while attempting firmware download
Help please.I killed w8uvz's K3 while trying to download current firmware. The computer attempted to download three times and then became non-responsive. I could not power down the K3 so I turned off the power supply. When re-applying power the TX light is blinking and only MCU LD appears on the screen without backlighting. Thanks to all who answered.tried the suggestions on page 42 and still having problems. I am getting the msg K3 did not respond to firmware load request. [Elecraft] K3 back to life again
Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help. It seems the problem was the brand new 15 ft DB9 serial cable I had bought just for this purpose so I didn't need to move the radio close to the computer to upgrade. I put together a 6ft 25pin cable with adapters to get to 9 pin male/female and connected that mess to the radio and was then able to successfully load firmware to bring the radio back to life. With the 15ft new cable it would stall out midway through the loading and freeze up the program. Looking at the K3 software page it still appears that 2.02 is the latest approved release. Am I missing something here? From the reflector it seems there are much later releases. [Elecraft] K3 hearing twotones on CW using narrow DSP settings
This has been brought up before but I never noticed it before. If I set 450 hz CW tone and tune in good CW (W1AW broadcast) the 450 hz tone is perfect with DSP bandwidths of 150 hz or greater BUT when going to 100 or 50 hz bandwidth I can hear two tones.450 and 400hz at the same time. At 150 hz BW the 450 is the only one I hear. This "phantom tone" or additional tone 50 hz lower happens when set to 400 or 350 hz note also. Am I the only one seeing this? [Elecraft] K3 FW 2.38 noise blanker operation
Today I loaded the latest released version being 2.38 and was listening around the 40 meter band for weak CW signals.amazing!!! With the NB off it was impossible to even tell some on the weak signals were there but turning the NB on revealed signals there and adding the NR along with very narrow DSP bandwidths made unreadable signals into very good Q5 copy. I usually work 160 CW and mostly DX stations which are usually down in the noise so I am really looking forward to the upcoming season armed with a new K3.thanks Aptos for a job well done. 1670 arrived yesterday about lunchtime. The receiver lives now but I am getting "err PA1" message. Do I need to physically remove the KPA3 module. Another thing is I can NOT find PA10 NOR anywhere in the config menu. I can find PA nor but not PA10 nor. [Elecraft] K3/100 # 1670 lives
It is now alive and well after about 10 hours of build and calibration/testing time. I did find a few very minor problems with the assembly instructions that I will share with Elecraft.particularly with the Fan assembly as the two bottom center acorn nuts interfered with the relay of the KPAIO3 board and needed to be put on the outside.the instructions are unclear since the screws and nuts have been changed. All in all the build went exactly as the manual said. [Elecraft] K3 will not transmit after being on AM BC band
Today I had been listening to a local AM station on 1250khz and after tuning up the band to 160 meters the transmitter would not transmit. I powered down and then back up and normal CW operation was restored. Is this normal or do I possibly have a problem? [Elecraft] K3 not transmitting after AM BC use
After my post yesterday about not being able to transmit after being on the AM BC band.think the problem may have been that Phat Phingers may have stayed on the mode up button too long putting the rig in test mode (blinking T) and being a newbie I didn't recognize the problem. [Elecraft] K3 rit function
Is there a way to keep the RIT/XIT offset displayed on the VFO B area. It only stays on a brief time and then goes back to VFO B freq or whatever disp function that is selected.
